£70 to save you buying what is at worst a £15 mount and charger only to end up with an inferior product? What phone have you got that has notifications that don't pop away in an instant? And sun glare from the screen.....not in 14 years of sat-nav use glossy screen or otherwise.

Lifetime updates??? Great...but do they charge for the speed camera's warnings every year? The TomTom I had disabled its speed camera feature automatically after a year and then insisted I pay £20 annually for updates. I just binned it instead and bought a Chinese one for half the price with free lifetime map AND speed camera updates.

Just use your phone, a in-car charger and Googlemaps or Wazemuch better and all free

Most new tomtom like tomtom 510 has screen just as shiny as phones.
I am all for dedicated sat nav as you might need phone for other things.
I am looking for old models like tomtom 930 or tomtom 940 so I can instal poi camera alerts.
You can't install poi cameras on new tomtom which is shame.

I'm sure you can. You also have the added fun of having to go out and buy some silly attachment cradle...thing...which will not come with your phone, so you can mount it to a dashboard somewhere. Long term you won't be enjoying constantly running out of battery power trying to use a phone for it, so you'll then also have to go and buy a car charger for it (believe most phones don't actually come with these). Both of these things oh - they're straight out the box when you buy a sat nav! How handy. Also add in the fun of having to go in, every time you need to do a long journey : turn off this notification, turn off that notification, turn off just about everything else if you want to stand a hope in hell of a straightforward uninterrupted journey guide. Add to this the fact that no phone I know of has a matt screen finish. All sorts of shiny sun glare awaits using a phone screen! But no...no it'll do cos...a phone can just be crowbarred into anything!
Righto.

Obviously attempting to make a phone a sat nav is crap as a concept from the off, but also I couldn't have anything less than a 5" sat nav. A 6" sat nav (sorry to close all your "ooh matron" loopholes here) is just TOO big - a 5" sat nav is the perfect size. Data use? No thanks - no need.

You can get downloadable maps on at least some phones which includes navigation. 5" phones are also very common.
Why is a phone sat nav a "crap concept"?

Google maps is killing them now with lane change and traffic alerts all for free. I always wanted a tom tom but feel for £10 I still would not buy. My mate paid £600 for one some years back, and that was with trade discount if my memory is correct. I guess if your driving all day this is still a must. I'll give it some heat.
