I called three today as my current Sim Only contract is up for renewal. I said that I was thinking about taking the 16GB EE deal that is currently on and they offered:
30GB data
Unlimited calls
Unlimited texts
12 month contract (Sim only)
£20 per month.
Seems like a decent offer considering you get the "Feel at home" offer to use data in certain countries, which is the thing that put me off the EE deal.
Might be worth giving them a call if you are looking for an upgrade whilst the EE deal is still valid.
Edit - my current contract was a £24 per month, as above but with 8GB data. I only use circa 5GB per month which is perhaps why they have given such a generous allowance. However, since I have moved onto a narrowboat with no broadband, it will be great for tethering my laptop to (which is included in the allowance).

It's 6gb then they cap your speed to 256kbps apparently so useless for anything but email and messaging. Though some claim that their speed actually increases to 256kbps once they hit the cap...

In my final 30 days so called for PAC code, the first person I spoke to at Three was difficult delaying being put through to the PAC code team, but they did offer the 30GB deal. The PAC code team person I was eventually put through was much better and also offered the 8GB £13pm (no tethering or Feel or home) deal. I was looking at the 15GB 16pm BT Mobile deal but Feel at Home swung it.
I finally committed to this deal yesterday after failing for find a good deal inclusive of a phone. Glad to here there are 24 new countries being added to the feel at home too - Germany was the one it was really missing for me...

Off... First of all.. its not unlimited data... its always on.. 6 gb fast internet and after that you cant open simple web page for 2 minutes. Not to mention even on the faster net you cant watch live stream.. i watch twitch.tv (gaming stream site) and its stopping every 20 seconds to load on low video quality with giffgaff. Now i switched to ee and with the quidco cashback its 13 pounds per month for 16gb net and im watching twitch.tv with source quality ( which is the highest one) ... giff gaff suck moose balls

I'm using giffgaff for last few month, have to say one thing they are terrible on 4G/3G data. Even if you take 1GB data you never going to finish that 1GB data in one month. Such a terrible data coverage (even in central london).

I'm on giffgaff and have been for years, it's getting worse and expensive every year. The data is ridiculously slow, the customer service is non existent, which was fine when it was cost effective. The overall speed of giffgaff is rubbish. The only reason I'm on it is because my siblings are on it, and I recently graduated, as soon as I get a job I'm leaving the rubbish network with a dual sim phone so my siblings can contact me still.

I changed mine to the 12 month sim only for £20. Once done you can upgrade your plan in the my 3 account so for an additional £4 per month you get unlimited data which includes 30gb of tethering. I've moved from unlimited data/mins/texts £22 a month to this deal. Prior to the £22 a month I was on the one plan £18 a month. Streaming sports sky go (especially cricket test matches) really uses a lot of the data. Didnt really mind about how much data I used previously (average was about 15GB a month) as it was unlimited. Already on 3. Called up and they offered me this advanced plan without any hassle. 30gb personal data allowance including tethering, unlimited minutes and texts, feel at home, free calls to 0800 and 0808 numbers. All for £20 per month on a 12 month SIM only deal. I asked about the tethering and they told me that the tethering comes out of the 30gb personal data allowance.
Cancelled the EE contract 16gb deal I took out yesterday. I asked them what happens after 12 months and was told the price reverts back to £34.99 but the retentions team may give me a similar deal. Thought I'd stick with 3.

They do unlimited data plans so offering people 80GB knowing that people wont use is meaningless to them... the 2nd line retention department offered this in response to the 24GB EE contract I have with free international / roaming unlimited calls to/from EU and free Galaxy S7 Edge for £48/month... Retention deals are amazing but you have to push for them...

I would avoid three at all costs. My experience was I took out a sim only contract with them and recieved a text message late at night stating "your change of address has been updated". I rang them to query this as it clearly wasn't me and they said "yes you rang up changed your address and asked for a new sim to be sent to that address". I said ermmm no I didn't. When I asked what address it was changed to they said sorry can't tell you because of data protection! I was like wtf it's my account!? So I promptly cancelled the entire account and will never go with them. Be very weary of three unless you enjoy being a victim of fraud

Having recently moved from 3 to O2 i can say that i'd switch back if i could (18 month contract). O2 customer service is no better than 3, although their apps and "service" offerings seem to be better though out.
O2 coverage is woeful, nationally - especially in London where i was restricted to GPRS for a long weekend there. My OH with EE full 4G on the same type of phone.
For speed 3 is better than O2 as well. At 4G, where i can it with O2, i'm fine but as soon as it drops to 3G its like being back on dial-up.
My work phone is with O2 as well, and they refuse to believe they have such poor and patchy coverage - very much fingers in their ears, or they look to offer you picocells that you have to pay for to extend their network.
Great deal BTW.

Few days ago I was willing to move from three to EE. I'm on unlimited data at 17£ per month. Called up three to get the pac code and after countless stupid offers, useless conversations with their experts at the end I managed to squeeze out a 13£ per month deal for 10gb data (that's enough for me), but they cut of the "feel at home" benefits. Not bad, but not sure if it was worth the trouble. I'm still tempted to move to EE just because all of the stupid phone calls I had to go trough and so much missleading and wrong information from different advisers.

If roaming is important to you, perhaps try Vodafone. They had the best offer when it came to roaming for me (3 didn't cover the countries I travel to most and EE don't include Data).
£13 got me Unltd Calls/Texts and 10GB UK Data. 12 months spotify (which was also important to me). And Unltd roaming calls and texts in Europe, plus 2GB roaming data. Outside of EU its free incoming calls and texts and £5 for any day you make an outgoing call/data (which comes off your normal bundle).
I've seen a few other people mention getting similar deals, so worth giving them a shot if the above suits you (for me it was the roaming and spotify that swung it).
Customer service is dire though :/ but I havent had luck with any of the networks in that regard.

Not a particularly valid comaparison when most VM retention deals' unlimited data is 3G not 4G and limited to 3.5GB, then capped at snail speed. VM good for reduced costs to 08xx though, yet loses out to 3s often zero roaming costs. Usual horses for courses.

Giffgaff was horrendous, had several discussions with people on the giffgaff forum saying that the speeds are fixed and will not increase. Even on 4G 6GB I would get a maximum of 4mb download and 12mb upload on occassions, 3G is terrible for me at 1mb download or even less. What I noticed was the speed cap is removed after midnight and I suddenly was able to get an average of 25mb down and 18mb up. I've used O2 in the past and their speed in general isn't as bad as Giffgaff during the daytime, guessing Giffgaff just have a cap on it. Would not recommend Giffgaff unless you only browse less memory requiring websites or email. When I switched to 3 eventually on contract I was finally able to use the internet properly as I need to use it on the go for work purposes. I currently receive an average of 50-60mb download and an average of 25-34mb upload. Hasn't really disappointed me at all and would recommend Three!

I got the same deal about 2 months ago and very happy so far.
I wasn't looking for so much data - coming from a 1GB monthly rolling contract - but liked the near-unlimited use of my phone for a reasonable cost (considering I'd already paid for my phone).
As noted above, they told me there was a 12GB limit per month for tethering/hotspot use (and no tethering abroad).
I wouldn't normally vote for a retention deal but as it seems consistently available to 3 customers (at least) have some heat!

I was on one of Three's 4G data-only plans (£15/month for 10gig) and they started blocking tethering half way through without telling me or consulting me - I thought I had my configuration wrongly set up for a while but it turned out they just decided to turn it off for no valid reason. I said "why, what are you afraid of - that I'll use the data that I've been paying for?" and they gave me no reason other than some "oh we can do whatever we want" excuse. I terminated the contract and got out of it but had to fight to get the advance month that they'd already taken from my account.
They were very unethical and petty, destroyed any trust I had in this firm. No idea if they'll try that with this deal but it wouldn't at all surprise me.

giffgaff aren't truly unlimited. After a certain amount they have the right to restrict your speed.

nope now its only 6GiglyBits :disappointed: and slow!!!
so really not wort it one bit. I travel all around the UK and the coverage is appalling!!! on any given day I could be anywhere for the day or two.
on the other hand 3 network isnt the fastest BUT its very consistent.
I'll give u guys an example... me and my college travel together, he's on EE the fastest network (lols) and its true it is the fastest but when we test our networks. we would play Netflix or YouTube or any other streaming media.... and u know which one never ever buffers???.....
..... 3 and that's no joke I can have it streaming from one end of the M6 to the other end and no buffering same on M42, M40, M56 or any other motorway... don't get me wrong it does buffer sometimes but nowhere near as EE.
AS for those who solely relay on the speed of the network. my question is why???... for starters you only get 1-16gb data on EE u can't really use the speed for its intended purpose! which is transmit large amounts of data fast!!!..
all u do is just waste that 1-16gb real fast that's all, ur a paying a premium for something fast that u don't really need...
all u need is roughly a constant 10mbs or less connection for ur web browsing, face thinggy, snap, WhatsApp and all the others.
and for streaming media all u need is a 14mbs connection to play the content just fine no buffering.
I just don't get those ppl who choose a network because its advertised as the fastest.
and lastly every single network has its flaws from one area to the next. it'll have full signal in one spot and 300-400meters away itll have 1 bar or 0.
my top of the list networks are 3 and EE... 3 edges out slightly because of the price.

Hi. Currently on the 16gb EE deal and I can't fault the speed atm. Is this 4g and what are the speeds like for say streaming a show to watch? Also does anyone know if you can get the £59 Amazon voucher or the 6 months half price? Thanks

4G. Realistically, the speed is more likely relative to the combined effect of traffic shaping and the signal coverage in the specific location where you intend to stream - that is true of any network. Three's KFI can be read here, EE's here. EE seem particulatly hell-bent on limiting peer-to-peer traffic, especially between 8AM to 2AM inclusive: "During peak hours, the traffic is slowed down to 50kbps and during off peak is capped at 1800kbps."
OP deal is a personally-tailored retention deal. Not sure how you are applying that to a different situation of implied new customer who has different incentivisation options such as Amazon vouchers etc.

I posted the same deal about 2 months ago and it was voted cold for some reason even if there was any better deal on the market. voted hot as I'm on the same deal and very happy

Probably because it is a retention offer. Sometimes it can be difficult to be offered the same deal depending on who you speak to.
Heat regardless OP, great deal from Three :smirk:

because its a) 6GB of usable speed and b) they use o2 which might as well be no data where I live and work.

I would go for this instead of O2 10GB of data (also unlimited minutes & texts). Sadly, I had nothing but bad experiences with Three's customer service and coverage.
Opening post

Speed on Three does appear to be increasing, I use to get 20Mbps down.

Cancelled the EE contract 16gb deal I took out yesterday. I asked them what happens after 12 months and was told the price reverts back to £34.99 but the retentions team may give me a similar deal. Thought I'd stick with 3.
+unlimited texts & calls.
EE is a far superior service anyway. Three's 4G always was pretty gash, EE's is top notch to be fair.
It's such a shame they don't offer this retention deal with unlimited on-phone data for a few quid more as I don't trust myself with hotspot usage.
Also, is it only for customers upgrading or new customers?
Unlimited mins
Unlimited text
Unlimited data
4gb personal hotspot
All for £15 a month
It's all about who you get and how you talk to them on the day I reckon. I'll be trying again in December and hopefully be getting something like this but with slightly less data for under £12...
Thanks OP.
They were very unethical and petty, destroyed any trust I had in this firm. No idea if they'll try that with this deal but it wouldn't at all surprise me.
My current plan x2 (Myself and wife)
Unlimited Calls
Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Data
12gb Personal Hotspot Allowence
Feel at home
£20 PCM 12 month sim only.
I will prob go with this, but going to wait to see if I can get better once in last 30 days.
currently pay £13 for 4gb 600 minutes unlimited texts. really want more data, the rest is fine this deal @ £15 would suit me just fine.
Last time I read into it it was something like 12GB.
Also, when I was on giffgaff I couldn't use my hotspot to connect with my laptop (but can on Three). Big minus for me
so really not wort it one bit.
Still on their unlimited everything for £23/month rolling monthly.
Good deal but be aware 3 can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to signal
