any body know how much the ceramic valves are - I guess it is not worth replacing these on my existing taps which are leaking -- just buy the new ones - or is it going to cost me more (in labour) to have the new ones put in by plumber - pls advise I am hopeless to do it myself

replacement cartridges are roughly £5-10 each depending on what is compatible with your taps. They are easily DIY'able if you already have isolation valves installed before your tap tails.

Voted hot, looks normal price though and thanks forgot about screwfix selling taps, wicks and b&q and other DIY places have taps @ £45-60+, you can however buy similar taps like these for 16-20 quid on amazon, this ones 25 quid and ranked no 1 with 10 year warranty:
