XCOM 2 is the sequel to the 2012 Game of the Year, award-winning strategy game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces and XCOM, the planet's last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda below and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.
Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

At this price I decided to purchase. Loved the previous version and been waiting for the price to drop.

Owned from release, this is a good price though.
Worth a playthrough, especially if you liked the first one. Available DLC adds soldier customisations, a few new aliens, a couple of missions & MECs.

Great game - really hard! I had to cheat.

Anyone played this on Mac? Heard it has high minimum spec requirements? Have a 2 year old Retina Macbook Pro and the first XCOM played great on it.

Resisting buying this until I need an excuse to stay in. As soon as I buy it i'll have zero social life.

Is there an expansion planned for this? Will wait until it hits £10 though as I'm short enough on time as it is at the moment. (I can afford to not play a £10 game for a bit :P)
Can't wait though, looks great. Heat from me.

Really enjoyed the first game. I would be tempted if I didn't have about a 50 game backlog on steam :/
Cheapest I've seen it anyway. Hot!

Has the price gone back up now?!

I see the price now as £19.99, agreed.

Shoot through floor/roof bug?! I just played this game - totally and utterly devastated. You can shoot aliens in the floor below you when you're on the roof. And they can shoot you through the ceiling. No damage to the floor or ceiling when you shoot. It's just like it's invisible. Completely destroys the tactic of going on roofs for cover. I am so utterly devastated... seems a common bug https://steamcommunity.com/app/268500/discussions/0/412446292761120032/
:disappointed::disappointed::disappointed: anyone else experience this :disappointed::disappointed::disappointed:

No problems whatsoever here.
FWIW, high-powered weapons are capable of shooting through walls IRL.

indeed... but it's happened on second mission and I'm on Kevlar armour and the first set of weapons! And amazing how these bullets shoot through the floor without leaving a mark!
Some people say to reload... but I restarted from beginning and same problem.
Kind of hopeful that you haven't had that problem... but unless I know how to fix it, I don't want to get my hopes up!

You've probably just been unlucky. Remember that the game procedurally generates its tactical maps, so IMO the occasional imperfection is excusable.

Hey!! Thanks illusionary! I restarted that level... and seems better... before I am on a roof and as soon as the aliens are discovered I can shoot them through the roof! cool I think... then later on they hide in the building and shoot me through the ceiling and I lose two players! not cool!
So I reloaded the entire mission and so far... I cannot see them through the roof looking down so hopefully they cannot kill me going up... but if you want me to play this on iron man? forget it! It will be annoying though on a mission and you explore the area and then you find the bug and replay the mission as you know where they will be :disappointed:

Hehe, indeed - Ironman's not for me either; I'm enjoying myself plenty on Veteran.
Do you have the Digital Deluxe version or just standard?
jameshothothot
30 Aug 16#19
Just the standard. How about you? I got it with a steam controller - which I haven't used yet in a bundle (Which I posted!). And I haven't used the controller yet... and I thought oh my if xcom doesn't work either, what a waste!
As I've just started the game I can go back and get the digital deluxe. But I loved playing Enemy Unknown and then Enemy Within separately. Not sure how different the expansion is.
Talking of which. Did you ever get longwar to work? I can't remember which version I tried 1.5 or 1.6 but it just got stuck and none of my players would move at the start of the 2nd mission...
I don't have much luck with xcom! But really enjoyed xcom 1 (ha... as in of the new ones - not the originals! I have them in my steam library...)

I've actually not dabbled with Long War just yet, though I ought to at some point (it's only about 3-4 months since I've had a newly-modern laptop - my GT 540M put me off too much PC gaming for a while). Back with XCOM 2, though, I'd recommend the deluxe upgrade if you get the opportunity - while I could take or leave Anarchy's Children, the new soldier class in Shen's Last Gift is worth the upgrade in itself IMO. Then of course there's Alien Hunters to bring some chaos to you missions...
Oh, and you really ought to give the original X-COMs a shot at some point!

Knew this would be like crack cocaine after the other XCOMs so have been holding off. Just took the plunge on the Deluxe. Now for that mod that turns off the turn limit...

The time limit is intrinsic to the mission design and I'd encourage you to play with it on for at least a little while; it's rarely excessively restrictive.

agreed - it's what makes it a new game. have to risk. a bit like chasing meld. old game got a bit boring of wait and cover. i never got to play long war but imagine you have to sacrifice a few peasants... but seems the specialist class has scan (i remember battle scanners!)
on the third mission - i was fighting on a roof and threw a grenade.. sectoid fell down... other units seemed to be able to target him through the floor again - they were out of sight to hit him through the hole... but i used a ranger sword attack anyhow... but still felt the bug was there on the line of sight aiming ... :disappointed:
but yeah this is almost as addictive as chocolate ...
