I felt exactly the same way but to be honest it'll be crazy to buy a mattress without trying it first and I think I would prefer one with memory foam.
All people prefer different mattresses and there's more to a mattress then just the firmness rating. So imo best to go to a shop (independents are best imo) and try before you buy, especially as we spend a third of our lives laying on our bed so it's important to get one that feels best for you.

the double size (which I would need) is £569 before 20% off, annoying!

I take this model is specific to Argos ... nearest thing similar I can find is the essentials range 1000 pocket sprung .... average price over £330. I know theres technically huge difference in spec 2800 ...& 1000 ... . anyone know anymore abt this mattress ??
stek2010 to chrisom
31 Aug 163#15
Yep almost all the big mattress manufacturers call their range something different to each retailer it's sold to so they can claim it's an amazing bargain. I'm sure this mattress would be ok - but nothing special given the spec.
We have a sealy mattress that is "exclusive" to the one-store local bed shop here in Bristol. Yet one that looks identical is sold in the shop opposite with a different product code.

not too bad a mattress. Very good price, it's soft as butter though. Not suitable long term for anyone over 15stone. Argos is the biggest downer on this.. They got voted the worst company to but a mattress from, all be it so did Bensons and Dreams.

Beware that they may send you the wrong mattress out.
They sent me out a pocket sprung 2800 but what I received was in fact a 2000 pocket spring.
The label at the foot of the mattress states how many springs there are.

Not really the argos website is poor at best and often shows errors in checkout process as their real time information is really flaky, for me allowed me to add to basket then when checking out said out of stock, clicked through to go to delivery options and after about 5th time finally gave me a date and accepted my order which has now been confirmed

Beware of mattresses from Argos. We bought one similar about 12 years ago and it was sagging after just a few months (we weighed around 70 and 75kg each so not bloaters either). I called the the manufacturer to tell them the issue and at first they had no record of producing the named mattress. Then they asked someone else and they said that it was theirs and it was "value engineered" especially for Argos (when I asked what that ment they admitted it was lower quality than they usually supply to keep costs down).
The result was we were offered a small percentage off another mattresses rrp. What a joke!

Keep an eye open for Costco mattress Deals, I bought a double Silentnight one from them a couple of years ago.
More than a third cheaper than the next lowest price and its so thick I barely get Deep fitted sheets on it.

Mattress arrived, seems very good quality, very deep. Def not a soft mattress as was mentioned somewhere in thread, I feel it's medium to hard.
Just as a heads up it weighs 56kg so is pretty heavy, I have a 3 story house and needed on top floor, nearly killed 2 of us!
