Comes with software, or plug and play with an existing NVR. I am using this via my PC using NVR software
Also comes with a long 18m ethernet cable.
It has Power over Ethernet so you don't need a separate power source (if you use NVR) or you can use a 12V DC power source if you are streaming via your PC like me.
Can watch the video on your mobile or remotely via the internet with compatible software / compatible NVR
Looks like a good price to me, what do you think HUKDers?

I've got one of these. They are no good. Buy something made by Foscam if you want quality and something easy to setup.

In my opinion Hikvision are where it's at with IP cameras, either bought from the UK or China (lower cost but may have hacked firmware), I've had my 5 set up for over a year with no issues, these cameras can write to a dedicated PVR, NAS or even a shared drive on a PC.

Hikvision camera setup with NVR is the route to go
Onboard memory (SD card) 3mp POE, all the usual alerts - capable of remote access direct or plonk a HD into the NVR and you get backup of the video on both camera and NVR - circa £80 for camera - variety of resolution, spec etc DS2cd2532f as an example
NVR can have 4,8,16 camera inputs depending on your needs
Way way better than the swans and other brands

Depends how many you need. Would be better to pick up a Swan camera back or something if you need multiple.

I have two Foscam and one cheap clone cameras Guess which ones have gone wrong! And the cheap clone has the ability to limit the alarm sensitivity areas to just subsets of the picture, a very useful feature. YMMV.

Totally agree. Was recommended hikvision 4MP cameras by a security company that installed my alarm system. Awesome quality and really pleased with it.

I've had a couple of (*expensive) GeoVision cameras outdoors for a few years now - only ones under about £2k at the time that did auto-focus and zoom, but no PT. Only the SD cards have failed and that was when I set-up continuous recording mode and eventually killed the flash. My bad. While the built-in web interface only works fully with IE (the live picture and motion detection set-up, sigh) the rest of the feature set is good and mostly stable. I have tried to buy some other brand but everytime I go through the list of features I want I end up back with them.

Suggest Aliba as a good option - got the cams from there and got the NVR from a company in Leicester via eBay
Sub £100 for NVR - £30 for POE hub (not essential but useful)
£70-85 camera from Aliba - expect to pay £90-£120 eBay
Hope this helps

Don't forget any purchased from any Chinese dealer is likely to not be the full UK spec and most probably will have a hacked firmware to display English, which may or may not prevent firmware upgrades in the future.
I went Chinese for all mine, because I felt it more useful to have 5 potentially dodgy cameras, rather than 2-3 UK spec cameras, so far you'd not be able to tell the difference, there's nothing in recent firmware updates that would make me want to risk flashing mine or wish I'd bought the UK variant.

Can't recommend security cameras enough. Shortly after installing one guarding my back passage I caught somebody trying to break in late at night. I sent the footage to the local police station and they actually recognised the guy trying to break in. That same morning he was behind bars again (a true story!).

You have me worried now, I always sleep on my stomach, may get one of these for the bedroom now, I dont want anyone getting into my back passage.
Do keep in mind what the other member said. I have 1 setup myself and it's been great, I don't regret opting for the chinese model. I saved a fortune as I bought a Hikvision NVR for around £50 too which is much cheaper than you can find them for in the UK.

Most ebayers are Chinese sellers anyway - I've had my setup for a few years - once installed no need to flash cameras so no difference between UK and Chinese models
Recommend the 2CD2532F-IS as 3mp with POE and SD - small and dome like so potential thieves won't know which way camera is sighted

a thief would be lucky to find something worth £60 in my house let alone this camera, which would make a nice and easy snatch. burgled before they even break in

Does anyone think buying cameras from China could mean them coming with such hacked FW that they just stream to someone in China? Or am I being paranoid?

got a couple from alixpress a while ago, sony imx322 sensor inside 1080p (besafe i think the seller or brand was) got it setup with a Chinese nvr box, works perfect via POE. cameras were £30 each, nvr was £40, all free delivery, took 2-3 weeks to come though

probably paranoid, I've not detected any rogue traffic, but then I don't think the Chinese government will be too interested in my drive or garden, for recording personal stuff there are better cameras ;-)

The only trouble with Chinese models is if you somehow ended up updating the firmware the camera would get bricked.
mbuckhurst to 5Rivers79
3 Aug 16#29
Updating the firmware is not something that you can do accidentally on the Hikvisions so a minor issue, but there are forums out there to get help if you do need the firmware updating, but to be honest, nothing has been offered in recent updates to make me consider bothering.

I have been looking at these on ebay . Some adverts are really misleading . You think the price is for a whole system and it turns out it is just for the cameras , or just the recording box .
I would add hard drive is not included in the prices , but you could stick a second hand on in.

From the description of the ebay item:
"Trading Rules: buy goods, please read carefully before our buyers.
1 - Camera has 4mm lens and 2.8mm lens optional, you can leave a message to choose the lens, otherwise 4mm lens will be sent as default."
Can someone explain what the different lens will do?
mbuckhurst
3 Aug 161#32
It's to do with how wide angle the lens viewpoint is (focal length), I've got a 2.8mm lens on one of my cameras, it makes all vertical lines curve slightly, and close up vertical lines are almost fish-eye, but gives a wide viewpoint.
The 4mm default in most of my cameras is pretty wide anyway, so more use I would guess. I've got the 2.8mm to view my entire back garden with a 4mm to focus on my shed, which is about 4m away from the camera. If the objects you want to cover are closer to the camera you may need the narrower lens.

Also no where can I see whether these cameras record sound as well.
I would appreciate anyone's comments on this set up, which appears to be 4 cameras and your recording box for £59.99.
Does anyone know if these cameras record sound or do you have to buy a separate mic?
