Is the BOSCH GSB 18-2-LI PLUS 18V 4.0ah better? Same price but has 64nm and 1900 no load speed vs this Makita's 50 and 1500. The Bosch's charger takes twice as long though.

I've got the Bosch and it's great, obviously in don't have this so can't compare. I was using it the other day, building a shed and play house and the battery still had a third remaining at the end of the day. the charging times don't matter in in my opinion as the battery will last a long time

I got a 458 from amazon last week for £133 - then they sent me a used one (this was not listed under their warehouse deals!) - Rather than sending it back, they offered me a 25% discount - I managed to squeeze a bit more out of them & paid £93! That was with a charger + 3ah Battery

Do Makita still have issues with the batteries "dying" as the protection circuit is wired up to one of the cells and makes the charger think the battery is dead?

Ahh why oh why do I never recieve these Screwfix vouchers. Have all contact methods ticked in my account and have spent quite a bit in there over the last 2 years. Waiting for some to buy a drill like this. Might just bite the bullet.

Try registering with a different email address and not spending anything on that account.
Some companies seem to only offer discount vouchers to customers who are not regular spenders.
I only spend about £30 a year in Screwfix because I find Toolstation cheaper for most things I buy and receive vouchers every other month from Screwfix.

Same - I only got one as I have a few tools now & only 1 battery. Also I want to start getting some MakPac cases - as they clip together to form a tool chest.

only 50Nm, so not the most powerful combi drill, but rather good value!!!

I have the 452 (and 458). the 452 looks similar spec to this and has been epic for me. 458 much more powerful but overkill for most and much heavier. The average DIYer wont need more unless they are drilling concrete and then they should be reaching for mains in any case. Very good value.

Really tempted to get one. Anyone know if the charger is a universal makita one or if its different batterys and chargers for each piece of equipment?

My charger looks identical to the one in the photo and it will charge any voltage and capacity Makita LXT battery,
it is also includes a fan that cools the battery whilst charging.

This Screwfix one at £95 is well worth it though! :sunglasses:
I was pricing these up as I saw it, on another website I saw.
£55 4.0Ah Li-ion battery
£28 Charger
£17 Makpac box
£8 Makpac drill liner
So the drill is effectively free.
