Following on from MrSteveHam's deal on the 8" version:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/samsung-galaxy-tab-s2-8-4g-grade-a-refurb-o2-125-99-2489535
I thought I'd post this:
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 4G LTE 32GB (Grade A Refurb) SM-T815 at O2 Refresh for £197.99, once you pay for the device and then cancel the airtime contract.
Choose the 10GB data tariff, with £29.99 up-front, then 24*£7 for the device.

The best like-for-like price I could find for one of these was £240 from CEX:
https://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SSAMT815O232GA#.V6CSVRLijd4
(only one left at the time of writing)

RRP on these is £400+

Grade A refurb usually means an "as new" customer return, usually without the box.

1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the £29.99 + £4*24 tariff.
2) Receive your tablet, inspect it if it's in a good (A grade) condition.
3) Put a sim card into your tablet and go online, request the unlock code.
4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.
5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the tablet because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.
6) You own the tablet from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.
7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.
:sunglasses: In first month they might take the airtime from your bank account through direct debit because they generate the bill the next day you apply for a contract, don't be scared as this will be refunded the next month, if not, call them again.

And that's how you get a bargain for your money.

Thanks so much - that's really helpful. I have one question: if I use the SIM card in step 2 to order an unlock code (which presumably can be requested via the O2 website?) - will that not incur a data usage charge and hence make me liable for the first month of airtime? Would it be possible/better to do this step over wifi instead?

Received my tablet this evening and got onto O2 webchat to request an unlock code. I was told that I needed to use the tablet on the O2 SIM for at least 24 hours before I could request an unlock code - ???

When I logged into the O2 website and went to the "request unlock code" section it says "This information is not available at the moment. Please try again later."

Any ideas??

I had a similar problem. the IMEI linked with the SIM has to be of the tablet. If you can find in your online account the device under mobile broadband same as your tablet then you should be fine
AstalaVista to itm
5 Aug 16 #49

Insert O2 SIM, try making a call to 202, it won't work, but you'll get some texts from o2 to update you tablet settings, so do this. Then after a few mins, it should appear in your devices with the option to request an unlock code for it.

Thanks. I got an SMS from O2 about 15 mins ago, confirming that my 4G service was ready, and asking me to reboot. I've since rebooted twice, but still get the same message when I request the unlock (from both the My O2 app and the O2 website). Is there a time delay while O2 systems are updated? I can see my device listed in the Mobile Broadband section of the website - i.e. the phone number associated with my new SIM. I click on that, then look at the "Device Details" section to the lower right of the page and click "Find out more". It's at that stage that I get the "This information is not available" message.

Maybe their systems are down? Is anyone else able to see their device details in this section at the moment?

Just got my tab - the cardboard sleeve package (no padding!) contained just the tab with a very poorly applied screen film and USB cable! It looks in good nick otherwise though.

Tablet was only at 17% charged. After plugging it in it's hardly increased, even with the tablet off. The Ampere app said that my phone was charging at 1800mA but when I plugged in the tablet it reports the charging current varies between 280 to 730mA! Anyone else seen this?

FYI I just cancelled my airtime contract via O2 Webchat (having previously paid off the device plan over the phone). They asked if I wanted to cancel my contract within the terms of the 14 day cooling off period. I said no, I simply wanted to cancel the airtime agreement. I'm guessing that cancelling the contract within the 14-day cooling-off period would have required me to return the tablet (?), so it's probably a distinction that's worth being aware of.

A question for those who have successfully unlocked their devices - how did O2 notify you of the unlock code? Was it emailed to you?

The reason I ask is that my SIM has now been disabled, so they can't text me the unlock code. My account on the O2 website also now seems to be disabled, so they can't send me an unlock code via that route.

Does this still work when the O2 page clearly states that the device cash price is £350: "Pay cash for your device or spread the cost through a Device Plan on a consumer credit agreement."?

There's also an option to "pay for your device in full" for £350. So how are people calling up and paying off the device at £197 and cancelling their air time contract?
itm to JamesDeanoMan
6 Aug 16 1 #68
Here's the process that I've just followed, FWIW:
- the tablet was delivered at about 9pm on Thursday night. I inserted the SIM and immediately tried to request an unlock code (via both the O2 website and the My O2 app). I got a message saying "this information is not available"
- more than 12 hours later (about 11am on the Friday) I got a couple of configuration SMS messages from O2. I installed both of them, and was then finally able to request an unlock code.
- after waiting 6 hours for the unlock code it still hadn't arrived, so I phoned O2 anyway and asked to pay off the device element of my payment plan - £168. I was asked if I also wanted to cancel the airtime agreement. I said no, in case they then told me that I would need to return the tablet.
- shortly afterwards I got an email confirming that my £168 payment had been processed. I immediately started a webchat session on the O2 website and asked them to cancel my airtime agreement. They asked if I wanted to cancel under the terms of the 14-day cooling-off period. I said no, and that I simply wanted to cancel the airtime agreement. They did this, and advised me that I would need to contact my bank to cancel the direct debits which had already been set up. I did this (online)
- The following lunchtime (1:30pm today) I got an email containing the unlock key. I used it to successfully unlock the tablet.

So the whole process took about 41 hours altogether, from 9pm on Thursday to 1:30pm on Saturday.

I've read those posts, but none of them addressed the point that the cash price is different to the device plan price. I'm thinking that they may have updated their policy in the days this was posted to avoid people taking advantage.

Did you purchase this tablet and see that the device cash price was £350 and yet were able to pay it off for £197?

Utter pain with O2 currently. :-(
I managed to finally get an unblock code request to work - even though O2 at first said that I need to make a few chargeable calls. Of course they neglected to mention that the O2 sim they sent can only do data!
Then the unlock code can apparently take up to 7 days .... so I called to pay off the device part of my plan. Went through the automated system to make a payment - it took my card details but then said thank you and sent the payment details via text. But it somehow it took just £7 rather than the full amount of £168. Called O2 who insisted on askling for my full password which I refused to give (they should only be asking for certain letters, and indeed this is what they have done in the past) and then had to go through a long rigmarole to pass their security checks. After all of that, they said that payments take 24h to show up on their systems (even though they sent me a text) and so I needed to call back tomorrow. All this on top of the fact that the sim slot cover is proving exceptionally difficult to eject and I'm at the point of asking for yet another replacement (the first didn't charge properly).
Thinking this deal is more trouble than it's worth!

You tried to make a payment via automated service, this is where you have made a mistake. In terms of unlocking you don't need to make calls, you just have to install the protocols of mms and web service from o2 and then go to website and click request unlock. Hope this helps in the future.

No simple answer as it depends on what charger and cable you have (best to have 2A chargers plus decent cable), plus what the tablet is doing. Putting into flight mode or turning it off is obvs quickest.
