there's not a significant difference in most situations between the regular and pro.

I must be missing where this says you need to have Prime? It's on Lightning Deals but can't see any Prime only notes anywhere.
EDIT: OP fixed, you don't need prime. I bought.

good to best (in terms of sata 3(600MBytes/s) in terms of drives
750 - 850 evo- 850 pro.
sata 3 is now really a midrange technology.. Sata express, m.2 and u.2 connectors will/should be replaced with OCuLink in the future

Obviously SATA III SSDs are still necessary due to the large amount of devices only having that I/O. I haven't seen any performance advantages for OCuLink v1.0 over M.2. M.2 and OCuLink both interface with PCIe. I sort of like what AMD are doing with onboard SSDs on the Radeon SSG GPU, as it cuts out the mainboard, the pathway is one step closer to the GPU and the bandwidth is higher.

That would be nice but unlikely given the current £/$ exchange. Think Pr Brexit it might have possibility come down to that in the next round of black Friday deals but think if it goes below £120 will be doing well

But this isn't the 'regular' this is the budget 750.
The difference between the 850 EVO and 850 PRO are small, but 750 vs either is larger.

It depend how much of the stock they have
If they have 160Bilion units and 5% would be everyone on the planet earth!
percentage is relevant!

1TB for £150 is the sweet spot in my honest opinion. 2 1TB Samsung SSDs at that price in raid0 would be a fantastic high performance option for mass storage.

RAID0? You really either don't care about your data or have a good backup strategy in place! Also, what's wrong with performance of a single SSD drive?

Do you guys recommend going for 500gb and a smaller HDD for a new build, or spread the cost on a smaller SSD and HDD? Placed the order on this for now anyway.

Samsung are making 1TB chips, they make a 14TB 2.5" drive. I saw a 34TB 5.25 drive somewhere.
I think there is too much investment in mech. drives. They have been saying for ages that they will replace mech. drives but not yet.
Can someone please edit the title to the correct spelling of lightning before my eyes bleed?
Thanks.

Yeah you're right. I bought the 850 EVO, with a lower MTBF, 2 years more warranty and way faster in almost every regard, for less in Nov 2015.

Yeah I bought the better 850 EVO for less in Nov 2015, thus reinforcing my point even more...

m.2 should have never have been used for desktop mobos, it only happened because of the mess that sata express created, even though m.2 has enough problems as it is.
OCulink should work well for SSDs as those will require faster bandwidth. Intel at the high end are already using pci-e 3.0 x8 lanes for ssds..
How much does a consumer needs, its easy to do the 640k comment, I would say 1/2 of system ram.
GPU ssds will be a game changer for consoles and gaming in general
fishmaster
30 Aug 16#39
How much the consumer needs is dependent on the queue depth they can utilise, that says it all really
