Probably not going to be much use to most people but a lot of newer boards in the past 5 years no longer come with a IDE port, needed one today to hook up a IDE drive, cheap and always come in handy in the future.

And if you really need to post a deal, will you need USB5.0 support first?

PCI port has been gone for 5 years. PATA IDE ports have been gone for longer than that mate!
If I really needed an old 80 pin IDE connector, I'd get a USB adaptor.

Most boards don't come with it at all any more, if you actually go check you'll see many boards still come with PCI as it is still used, they don't come with a IDE port.
Fact is IDE drives are still around and are still used, so for people who need this or may need it in the future it's cheap enough.
I don't see why you or anyone else is questioning it's use, whether it's a niche or used once in 10 years or everyday, what difference does it make?

I did go and check, and with the trend towards smaller PCs, most of the small mainboards don't have PCI slots.
I don't see why you are advocating it's use, it was a comment/observation and if you don't like people not agreeing with your opinion then don't comment on a public internet forum. At least I justified myself by saying it was still cheap and a good price, you were just flat out rude.

25 Aug 162#16
Rude? no.
Stating that people can go buy X to use instead as this is outdated is rude, despite me stating that many people won't find a use for it, you and the other guy still feel the need to comment stating basically what i'd stated in the OP.
I've posted a deal for a PCI IDE Card if it's of no use to you what difference does it make?

Wasn't going to bite; but basically, you don't like a comment someone has made because they haven't agreed with you. So from now on if you don't agree with something you're not allowed to say anything, kind of pointless having a forum then really. Hadn't voted, but know which way I'm voting now based purely on your attitude. You can have the last word, I'm not that bothered any more.

Isn't that my prerogative too, to put my point across, as it is a forum after all like you say.
Don't think i'll lose much sleep over you voting my deals cold, after all they are extremely outdated according to people here

I still have a backup PIII system with a 3C905C-T-XM in case my laptop dies so this will be a welcome addition. Outdated, near-obsolete and damned ugly it may be but these wretched things were built to last

I'm sure my first 3dfx card was pci. A 4mb card that had a pass-through cable to connect to my existing 1mb or 2mb 2d card

It would of been, i dont think any 3D cards used ISA slots. Although i'm sure 3DFX cards were both 2D and 3D, Power VR on the other hand has passthrough.

Yes you're right. Thinking back the only ISA card I bought was my soundblaster sound card. It was a huge card too, almost the full length of my case

the Zorro 3 was 32 bit, and isa was only 16 with full length isa slots. isa would be a downgrade.

voodoo 1 and voodoo 2 were 3d only, and needed a seperate 2d card. the car dof choice was a matrox mistique 4mb.
voodoo 3 w was agp 1x, and pci and was 2d and 3d.
also, the 32 mb riva tnt 2 whaich was out at the time, wiped the floor with the voodoo 3.

Most of my hard drives and disk drives are IDE. If I ever need to use them with a new built system I was just thinking of using an IDE to SATA converter. Smaller and neater than using IDE to PCI. I don't think new mobo's even have full PCI slots!
My AMD 486 machine I'm not sure what graphics card is in that, My other old PC (AMD Athlon) has a GeForce 2MX AGP card

MCA was superior and there would have been no need for PCI had IBM handled it better. It's classed as one of their biggest mistakes.
Not many people would have used it apart from those of us with PS/2s.

pci [intel] took alot of the tech from the zorro II/III slots, mostly the autoconfig which just worked

Parallel port printers are still useful as there is still stuff about that uses one, probably the same reason you can still buy dot matrix printers (although new ones are insanely expensive due to the lack of demand)

My friend owned the mystique and persuaded him to get a 3DFX card after seeing the mechwarrior screenshots. The difference was night and day. I think I owned a milleniunm and later a G200 marvel. GPU passthrough was a pain as I owned a matrox marvel, voodoo 2 and hollywood plus card linkes by two cables. Utter ball ache when I had to swap the cards in the PCI slots just to get it to work. Sigma tech support were zero help on the matter
