I cannot see hdmi 2.0 anywhere. Without it 4k is not possible.
adamspencer95 to sam_of_london
15 Aug 161#4
course it is, you'll just be limited to 30hz, which lets be honest, for a media machine (when movies are 24fps) is just fine

No its not. I have true on my nvidia shield TV player and TV with hdmi 2.0. There are several TV boxes which now come with hdmi 2.0 so why buy this one. Xbox one s will also come with hdmi 2.0

I can see the point in the dirt cheap android boxes, but if you're spending this much, spend a little more and get a fireTV.
no wireless AC, what is wrong with these people never putting AC wireless in, it is 2016 FFS

What is the benefit of running one of these Android boxes to the TV? Is it use of apps like iplayer, ITV hub, Mobdro, show box etc? Could you use one of these in another country like france to stream the contents I just mentioned?
I guess you would need a VPN back into the UK before you could stream stuff like iPlayer?

Yes or find yourself an iptv provider.

Also as a game machine, with Android 6 out of the box and a good controller is quite nice.... but yes all of the above, not sure about France

Main use is Kodi imo. So many add-ons, free and paid, for movies/tv shows/sport and live channels.
Also allows you to run any Android app, but it will be hard to work with a remote(last time i checked, Showbox was un-usable)
It will work worldwide assuming your internet Provider is not blocking the service, but if it works on your Android phone, it will work on this.

looks quite similar to my q-box which is nearly £20 cheaper.
A Fiesta ST looks similar to a 1.0 litre Fiesta....

Except your link has only 2GB Ram, a worse CPU and Android 5, basically the three most important features....

Running kodi as an appliance on a little fanless PC is the way to go. I've got an old POS computer with a cheap ssd running Kodibuntu and it's brilliant. Gets more use them Freesat which is used almost exclusively to record Corrie and MOTD.

You can save money on the keyboard by using the Kore app on your phone.

kore app only controls Kodi tho, a keyboard controls all apps... £9 well spent in my eyes

No, you are not limited to 30Hz with 2.0
That limitation applies to 1.4.

'Android 6.0: Comparing to the former version, people can easily install or uninstall applications and games.'
Compared to the previous versions of Android where you could also easily install or uninstall apps and games, so can this version!
What a load of absolute nonsense! It's not a feature worth expressing at all.

Use code GBH96P3 to bring it down to £52.89
Or use code GBH96P2 to bring the 2Gb model down to £48.29

you mis-understand.
with this box you can do 4K @ 30hz so hdmi 2.0 is not strictly necessary.

Been looking at various Android boxes the last week or so, but can't figure out what to get. If I just want to stream Kodi and Netflix on my bedroom tv is it worth getting one of these or should I just go for one of the s905 boxes at half the price? I don't have 4k either, so not hugely fussed about that at the moment.

Keep in mind these boxes are not running android tv and therefore the user experience sucks. I love this site as much as the next person when it comes to deals, but there are a few times I will happily pay twice the price for a better experience. Look at the nvidia shield. Seriously.
You can't say that just not running Android TV means that experience will automatically suck.
Shield is just about 3 times the price.

Having used both - yes I can. True I haven’t used ever android box ever made, but the OS simply isn’t made for a tv, so it will always be sub parr compared to any android tv box. With an item like this the phrase “buy cheap, pay twice” is spot on. Besides, the shield has a much more powerful cpu, meaning as your needs evolve you won’t need to buy another box (4k/UDR/HEVC comes to mind).
The shield does not cost 190 - it’s closer to twice the price of this and it will last you more than twice as long without making you get frustrated in the process. You do the maths.

I had 3 shields all with the same basic flaws (ejecting the hard drive at every reboot was fun, as it meant the apps disappeared) and whilst they were fast there is no point if they can't get it right. There tech support was absolutely dire as well.

Personally I only use NAS so it’s not an issue for me, but it’s a fair point if you were having issues
