I agree with you on getting it via EU, however I have to correct you here

We in the UK do NOT get the minimum EU warranty as the Sales of Goods Act UK covers us, not the EU policy

Also the 2 year warranty was an EU directive not an actual law, and so we could effectively choose to use it or not and we didn't

There is a case that in the UK, with UK bought goods, you can argue that it should stay fixed/working beyond any given manufacturer warranty, but we do NOT get an insta- 2 year deal on anything we buy.

Whether you buy it via China or the EU it does not have a warranty, unless the exact website/seller promises one, simple as that

Its a myth

However still buy from the EU if you can to save time on delivery and also cut out any possibility of getting charged tax for customs ^^

EDIT: For all those pointing out the Consumer Rights Act 2015, I know of it, used it today against my mobile provider EE in fact, it just isn't relevant because SOGA is so comprehensive and the CRA also does not guarantee warranties sooo.... :/

These look like a nice phone for the money, but I would step up to the redmi NOTE 3 pro, at around £115 (cheaper at banggood).
The Note has a slightly bigger 1080p 5.5 inch screen, a MUCH better CPU (according to Antutu scores of around 70000 vs 37000 for the redmi pro) and a better camera, plus the fingerprint sensor and stuff like this phone.
Key disadvantage is the bigger overall size, which may not suit some people and not quite as long screen on time for pokemon GO (due to faster processor and bigger / higher res screen).
I plan to buy the redmi note 3 pro in a couple of weeks, but I am just waiting to see what the new iphone camera does, incase it is totally awesome and I am tempted to pay 6 times the price...not expecting it??

No way am I going to 5.5inch. I already think 5 is oversized. I always laugh when people pull out their ridiculously sized phones. I am not quite sure how it has become the norm, they are so cumbersome. My currently phone is 4.5 inch and I think that is the perfect size for a mobile

Bought mine from Banggood but the phone is full of bugs for example there is no way to choose UK as location leading to the Google Launcher failing to load the google search bar. Annoying! Plus facebook messenger app doesn't open when you click on the notification. Just little things but very frustrating. My worst experience is with Banggood customer service as the screen has a weird smudge behind the glass and they expect me to pay to return the phone for a refund or repair.

Although the phone is great value, just be aware that warranty claims entail returning to China. Maybe Banggood customer service is better. Any experience?

Whilst I answered your post my response was not necessarily to you but for the information of others that maybe do not clear their cards. One good deal paid for by another poorer deal, so you don't really get free money transfers. Refers to a lot of card holders, and that's how card issuers make their money.

All of my credit cards are paid off in full each month. I couldn't stomach giving such companies extra money!

I can afford it. But I can't justify it. However, I also don't want to invest in a cheap phone where the photos are awful. The Redmi seems to have excellent specs - but just not convinced by the camera (currently doing some YouTube/Flickr research  )

The Clarity card is OK if you clear the balance every month but if you don't the APR is higher than for other Halifax cards. I know because I have been with Halifax for years and my Halifax Platinum has a lower rate than the Clarity I was offered. No benefits for being a loyal customer.

How does the camera perform on your Redmi 3 Pro? I'm currently umming and arring about whether to pay for an iPhone SE - which has a top notch camera....or give one of these China phones another shot. I currently have a Ulefone Paris...having long used high end Lumia's - and am of course disappointed with the camera! The Redmi 3 Pro camera seems to have some top notch technology such as phase detect autofocus...but just wondering how it actually performs in real life.

Many thanks

Almost certainly not. Halifax Clarity is the one (along with Santander Zero and Post Office Platinum) that are always at the top of the reviews. I can't remember seeing another Halifax card even listed.

If you do lots of travelling, get yourself a Clarity card.

There is no bloatware on the international miui rom loaded on the Redmi pro I received a couple of weeks ago. I read some of the posts relating to current CM13 ROM on XDA and decided to stick with what I have for now. The box was factory sealed.
One tip I would give is to load on the sophos antivirus app from the play store and let it run through the apps on your phone, it will flag up any potential spyware apps.

It's difficult to tell in comparisons like that as you say, software builds could be very different.

The key thing for me is the game loading. I'm sure the graphics processor will be much better in the 3 Pro. That will help performance alot.

I am wondering if this is a comparable or possible better deal?

Gearbest Redmi 3s Prime

There is a video on You Tube comparing the Redmi 3 Pro and the Redmi 3s - it's not overly scientific but performance on the 3s seemed slightly better. The link above is for the 3s Prime with extra RAM and storage over the standard 3s so performance against the 3 Pro could possibly be even better? Maybe it is a software thing, here is the video:

Redmi 3s vs Redmi 3 Pro

I used to think like that aswell but now I have used a larger phone when I go back to smaller one it seems like a toy phone! seriously! Phones now are no longer used mainly for calls I find. people walk around looking at them rather than listening on them. so the bigger screen helps alot. It's like a TV, I used to think anything over 32" was overkill in a average size room. try going back to smaller tv now!

The phone is apparently on the Global ROM. And having done several factory resets etc. I can honestly say it is not particularly happy with the google framework. [email protected] not alone, there are whole sections on forums of people with similar syncing issues. There are several ROMS out there I can try flashing to it - and I will when I get round to it - but it's a lot more work than I'd hoped from something that supposedly comes preinstalled with google...

Hi guys hope you can help.
I have an Elephone P8000 which I've dropped so many times it needs replacing soon!
I see that this has 32GB ROM, 3GB RAM, 616 Snapdragon processor for circa £110 delivered.
Is there anything out there that is the same price which would be an alternative?
I saw the redmi note which has a better processor and screen but loses some RAM (just 2GB) and ROM (just 16GB) for the same price as this deal.

Was really impressed when I bought the P8000 and know that it uses a cheap Mediatek processor so this will be a big step up, but wondered whether this was the only option out there for these specs and at this price point.

I use TalkTalk and only care about 2G/3G compatibility, 4G isn't of interest to me at this time.

Just updated my comment, I know what the CRA is, anonimousse, no need to insult like a 'schoolboy' as you call me

The CRA also does not cover a minimum EU warranty, and after Brexit (albeit Article 50 is not activated yet) I would highly doubt any UK retalier would honour that directive even if it were implemented (which it isn't anyways)

No matter what UK policy you look at we simply don't get mandatory EU warranties, I wish we did, so buy it or don't, simple as that

Only given warranties from specific sellers or websites actually apply, or if you pay with PayPal etc...

My advice would be to use PayPal, and buy it via the EU for perhaps a little more, to cut out customs and quicken delivery

You've got to be mental to buy this, great phone, awful seller. Ignoring the fact you have no warranty, this **** with a dodgy custom rom that will never receive an update so it's stuck on an old version of the OS, it's very buggy and a lot of these vendor roms have adware and viruses embedded. You can change this but Gearbest specifically have it in their T&C's that if you remove their buggy/unsafe software you void your [none existent] warranty. Stick with ibuygou, or Top-One/Hong Kong Goldway on aliexpress.

You must be the lucky one then, although they do give preferential treatment to those who give good reviews on forums and ban people from buying from them if leaving a negative review.
A lot of people end up being offered a 50% credit at best on a 2 week old item. Pay by credit card if you really must order from them (obv price has to be £100 or more), do a chargeback and you won't have to faff about sending it back, and hoping it doesn't get lost or 'claimed' to be lost

Why are they putting fingerprint sensors on these phones now :'( it's intrinsically a terrible security solution.

Just saw 2 reasonable spec phones at the just about considerable size on 5" and both have this undesirable addition.

Anyone have any clue if this function can be wiped safely and reliably disabled ?

Pretty desperate for a new phone, and there is nothing at all that i want to spend my money on, i have avoided buying a phone for some time now,i used to love upgrading my phone, its a nightmare now - someone will make a killing soon if they nail it.

i have android and iphone. Dislike the lockscreens and finger swipers. But was forced to have a lock screen code on iphone. And guess what! Its great. It means when I press the "ON" (home) button, its security checking and letting me in - almost seamless (unless I use the wrong finger). It beats 1-2-3-4 or someother forgettable number. Alas, on iphone, after a reboot, you need to type in the 1-2-3-4 (and itunes). Once done, you can use fingerprint.

YMMV as to how well your fingerprints are unique/hackable, but "one less slow and tedious to type password on a small screen" is welcome. Especially if the mechanism is basically "free".

(Have yet to even check if my android can do this; and it wont affect my choice of a new android - but nice to have, as with all features you "might" use)

I got one of these last week from gearbest, did a factory reset on the phone when it arrived and it's been working fine for me, Google play was preinstalled. battery life is excellent, compared with my outgoing phone the lenovo note k3 which needed to be charged in the evening, this easily makes it through the day on one charge. even better price than i paid, arrived through nlpost on standard postage although it took a few weeks there were no customs charges. wifi reception is a little weak, working on three and giffgaff networks. miui interface is excellent.

Well made phones, but the google integration is a bit of a mess... The MIUI version of Android isn't installed with the Google framework (playstore etc) in China, so it's added on for international sales. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as it should be - expect loads of syncing issues (google calendar simply won't sync for example), problems updating the playstore, etc etc... There are forums full of solutions - but for many there is STILL no way of making the work reliably with the google framework. So be warned!
VTS_Tibi to steed
30 Aug 16 1 #61
I have the global version and it does not have a problem with the Google applications at all. In fact it is one of the best integration I have ever experienced. Google calendar syncs, Play Store works and updates as it should.

I can only say good things about this phone. The MIUI is simply amazing, and it's not one of those "throw something on the phone and it will be OK" type user interfaces. Every single detail is well done and is there to support your everyday life. Love it  I have got the latest MIUI 8 global developer rom which gets a new updated weekly.

There are reports that having fingerprint stored (and therefore enabled) can increase battery drain so I don't use that bit.

29 Aug 16 1 #12
well also aware note 3 pro comes with 2 version. 2GB ram 16GB storage or 3GB ram 32GB storage. The £115 one is the 2G ram version and 16Gb storage. Redmi 3 pro has 3Gb ram 32Gb storage. Redmi 3 has 2Gb ram 16Gb storage.

Why is the camera better on the note? I'd be slightly tempted since its actually only 6mm bigger than my current 5 inch phone, though a bit heavier as well hmm..

can vouch for the note 3. only issue is 4g isn't up to much. it seems that the missing band is the one that Vodafone tend to use more.

Have a read of this and it might get cogs turning,

http://www.xda-developers.com/fingerprint-authentication-just-a-plain-bad-idea/

Some of the situations raised in the comments are very on point too, may not be a massive problem now but its the wrong direction and it shouldn't be encouraged.

It's a directive that countries are applying whether they have to or not. Germany and Spain apply it as the directive says.
Having said that Samsung Spain do not respect the Samsung world wide guarantee.

I know they're not exactly comparable, but is this phone better than a Z3 compact? Sadly my Z3C is behaving very strange and now the GPS doesn't work and has a faulty headphone port (only get static now) so need to find a new phone. There's quite a lot of good phones under the £150 and this appears to do everything I want. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

No way am I going to 5.5inch. I already think 5 is oversized. I always laugh when people pull out their ridiculously sized phones. I am not quite sure how it has become the norm, they are so cumbersome. My currently phone is 4.5 inch and I think that is the perfect size for a mobile
tibby to Darkmemento
30 Aug 16 #37
Generally agree but it depends on screen to size ratio. I'm fine with my 5.2" Huawei but I think 5.5" is a step to far. Unfortunately it is becoming the norm.

Each to their own but I thought like that until I had tried the Samsung note 2 for a day, I can't see myself going back to a smaller phone.

Web browsing, games, YouTube, videos are much better on a bigger screen.

Besides the one handed mode is fantastic on the Xiaomi Note 3.

Well just me guessing but the Base version of this can be had for about 80-85. Hence this now dropping as well. So perhaps the Base 16gb redmi 4 won't be too far off this price so 120-140 for a more usable 32gb version?

my experience with gearbest with faulty redmi note 2 mtk bought from EU warehouse. you have to send it back to china warehouse with your own cost. their ticket said no matter what for warranty buyer have to send back to china and only they are responsible for return post.

however after months with tracked RM to china, (royal mail will not take if you say mobile instead you have to lie about being some electronic gadget without battery about return package). they did send back different refurb unit.

so warranty from china is headache.

Couple it with only being 5" AND the massive battery and this things just keeps going.

Redmi 4 is likely to hit in January with a rumoured 1080p screen just so you know.

shall fit the redmi 3 pro version with the hole in the middle for fingerprint sensor. The case is sent from china but the phone is dispatched from china anyway so no point receiving earlier from UK sellers.

not sure about that. aliexpress is the sister of taobao, so if i want to get something from aliexpress, i would rather get it from taobao.

hmm... im also interested about this warranty thing provided by aliexpress?
superivanho
29 Aug 16 1 #21
accidentally pressed like haha.

anyway xiaomi does have their own aliexpress page:

http://xiaomi-mi.aliexpress.com/store/2178148

so i expect it to be a legit seller not some random sellers.

those sellers from gearbest and banggood are probabaly 3rd party sellers so they won't have the global version.

Isn't Aliexpress basically like eBay though and your seller could just be a guy with a phone refurbishing stall or someone selling whatever he can get his hands on?
superivanho
29 Aug 16 1 #14
I did get it from aliexpress. I have a long conversations with the xiaomi authorized store within aliexpress website. I tried to explain to them if my phone does not work do i need to send the phone to the UK or to somewhere else. However they can't understand english well and never get a proper response from them. The last reply from them is

"friend can you please contact aliexpess ?
whey charge the money they need afford the service right
if they do not afford it please ask for the detail reason we will help you with it
thanks
any news please let me know"

From their response it seems to me the xiaomi authorized store is not managed by aliexpress and they have no idea about the warranty. I think i'll have a word with aliexpress on the chat service which is usually offline...

I also saw this on the order page:
http://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/UT8jsh5XOVXXXcUQpbXU.png

if you click on details it doesn't state any repair or replacement service in the UK. That's how I start off a long conversation with the xiaomi store, and it's a bit of a headache.

Nevertheless, my order is already on the way now. The phone they sold is the "global" version though, which means it comes with full english manual, english and firmware updates (and no bloatware I pressume, have to find out) so that's the only good thing about ordering from aliexpress.

What is the story will Aliexpress? I see a few people on the other thread for this phone saying they have paid more to buy it through them as they get a warranty?
DatAlbino to hukduserr
29 Aug 16 10 #10

Darkmemento to stevefreebie
29 Aug 16 1 #6
Yeah this is shipped from Chinese warehouse. They are perfectly fine for ordering stuff from. You will get what you buy. The problem is if something goes wrong it all becomes a bit of a nightmare. Gearbest themselves may be the best in the world to deal with you know yourself just the logistics of sending stuff back to China is a nightmare. This phone on reviews seems incredibly robust so fingers crossed none of that ever needs to happen as I am about to take the plunge myself! Battery on this thing is just so good for the price and that is the main winner for myself.
