My wife prefers sound bars over proper surround sound amps and speakers. I'm gonna buy this amp.

Dolby Atmos means nothing unless you either know what it means or you read a decent explanation >
Rear panel looks remarkably similar to my Onkyo TX-NR747 which is far from being crap.

I tend to use the remote which came with it as all my other devices are plugged into the back of the amp and all are controlled by the amps remote. I think I'll give the app a go. What does 'Push Player ' do on the input select.
I am presently using icontrolav5 app, but see there are others on play store.

I could be wrong but I think push player is for playing music on the amp from the device the app is on,so from a mobile phone to the amp.

You are missing out lol
It's an app that you can download for iOS or android that allows you to control the amp and it displays all the amps information on your phone or tablet screen.
this is a good buy. Still a lack of receivers with DAB but this is good value for money. Is loud does shake the house.

I bought one of these in January for the same price, and as far as I am concerned, it's the best thing since sliced bread.
I am not an audiophile by any means, but I like the saound that this puts out.

For the money it is decent sounding for the average person and it's feature packed,I've got no complaints about mine.
Do you use the av5 app ?

Back calculating from the one channel quoted and the maximum power consumption. Ultra 2 is of course the top spec, but remember to double the volume you need to square the power, and think how that fits with quiet dialogue to huge explosion. That's why you need so much power for Home Cinema.
This Onkyo was a much better buy from a few days ago:
I've owned a THX ultra 2 set up before consisting of thx amp and kef reference speakers with dipoles and for the average person it is well over the top, hence why I got shot of it all.
I know this amp is plenty powerful enough for the average room as I own it along with the kef E305 speakers.
Thoughtful
16 Aug 16#21
How do you know it's plenty powerful enough? If it was it would be THX rated even to the lower 'select' standard. 25W pc is not going to be enough to reach reference standards, and is much more likely to damage speakers through clipping.
Thoughtful
16 Aug 16#18
A nice price for a budget amp, but don't expect it to blow the windows out with around 25WPC and what's the point of Atmos anyway? There are only a handful of recordings, and even 7.1 is still cutting edge for most discs, the vast majority of Blu Rays are 5.1

Since when have amplifiers been rated on how well they smash a window out.

This amp is plenty powerful enough for the average living room, and tbh if you think it isn't then you need to have your hearing tested.

I've had this amp for a while, and have to say it's a pretty great AVR, just a shame you can only use atmos in a 5.1.2 setup though

Richer have been running some cracking offers on Pioneer AV amps of late. Last week I picked up a brand new Pioneer SC-LX59 Atmos/DTS-X compatible amp for just £799 - retail on this beauty is £1399! This thing is *thunderous* - my neighbours hate me already :-)

That's because the replacements are due out in September. It is the best time to buy last year's models though with full warranty etc.
