quick question for anyone who got one of these. does your power button (the one on the top right) light up?

mine has a clear line in the middle of it to imply there should be a light coming through but no light.

Had to send mine back, it stopped turning on. No problems with getting it picked up, UPS were there the next day.

A business sale may not be covered by the distance selling regulations for consumers. Returns policy may be different. Dell previously refused to accept returns on this basis. Which means some people have to claim they are damaged and refuse to accept.

That was very quick, I placed 3 orders on 31st August, 4 & 6th September, the order from last month has only made it to production today, the other 2 orders got cancelled at the end of last week. When is your estimated delivery date, mine is the 21st but hoping it won't take that long.

I ordered Saturday and paid using Visa. Nothing showing on my account today and no emails so used online chat and also phoned them. One person says out of stock another says rejected. I asked for order to be cancelled and then re-ordered through TCB using a Mastercard. Used SB170's method and went to Dell UK website (thanks). Hopefully get a confirmation tomorrow

After initially having my order cancelled I tried again this morning, same configuration as before, windows 8.1 warranty as other and finger print. Total £277.32 payed with credit card as before. Order acknowledgement received in 1 minute and to my surprise order confirmation 5 minutes later delivery by 19th September, well happy. Previously ordered at midnight don't know if time ordered effects anything. This time I also went to dell UK and put lattitude 3550 in search box must be spelt with two tt's or search won't return anything even though selection that comes up is spelt with one t also on order as latitude, strange. Selected top one and continued as before, don't know if linking this way made a difference but worked for me. So anyone originally with cancelled orders worth trying again. Thanks to reddwarfiscool made me try again.

don't know much about AMD processors these days, stopped buying them after having crap AMD laptops a few years back, the Lenova will have a better finish and includes a DVD. for me it's whether the AMD is as good as a an intel i5. also look at the reviews for Lenova , you'll see Amazon sold it recently for £269.99, also reading the reviews I don't think the Lenova is full HD, personally I'd go for the Dell

Nope, on the first order I didn't receive any word from Dell for two days after the order ack. email then boom, cancelled, given a very vague reason, and this time nothing since yesterday, I'd assume the order will be cancelled again on Monday :disappointed:

The only reason I'm persistent with it is there is that no other laptop comes close for the specs in this price range!

How long did your order confirmation email take after getting order acknowledgement?
RedDwarfIsCool
2 Sep 16 1 #204
Mine arrived today (I re-ordered) and I'm very pleased with it. The screen is great, it's fast, has very little bloatware and it's as silent as your shadow! I agree with others, it's not much to look but it's excellent value for money. There is some flex on the keyboard but it's not very noticeable. First thing I've done was install Classic Shell on Win 8.1 until I think about the upgrade to Win 10, which I will probably do after I install a ssd.

To those who have had their orders cancelled, reorder like I did and hopefully it will slip through the net. I ordered on a Wed afternoon if day or time makes a difference.

Ordered Tuesday ,Mine just cancelled, same email, would be interested to know what they can't supply, it's a generic base with a standard chip and hard drive , maybe no more hard drives with 8 available, anyway why are they still allowing us to place orders when they can't supply, if you ring up they try and sell you a different spec for more money, is this not considered click bait.

It is said to be working with above mentioned method. I did not try, since i had already win10 pro key and used it to install directly on ssd.

Received mine yesterday too. The keyboard does flex slighty, when you check if it is flexing, like most non-high-end laptops do, but no flexing on regular use.
It is not an eye-catcher, but also not ugly. Quality is pretty solid, feels absolutely not "cheap", i have nothing to complain about. Happy with the purchase.

Received mine today after a two week + wait......DOA. :disappointed: Decided on a refund (will be evaluated and decided upon in 2-3 days) after two hours of being passed from pillar to post on the phone. Was even asked whether or not I would be comfortable opening up the case to make a check. Worst customer service I have ever come across and wish I would have spotted Dell UK's 0.8 Trustpilot score before ordering. I mean HTF do you get less than 1 out of 10? My first and last Dell product.

Hi, I put in an order for the Lenovo Z50 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lenovo-z50-15-6-inch-hd-laptop-black-amd-fx-7500-apu-with-radeontm-r7-graphics-8-2503047?page=2#comments) but am now wondering if the Dell is a better deal with an i5 and full HD for £45 more. Does anyone have any idea how the build quality compares as well as performance? Which would handle some gaming better (do realize that neither are gaming specs but wondering if it can play new games at low settings?)

I did my first order on Saturday morning. Contacted Dell on Monday to say that I hadn't received my order confirmation yet. They said that it hadn't gone through cause of a problem with their system and that I should try again. I ordered again on Monday night and then checked with them again on Tuesday lunchtime as I still hadn't received confirmation for the 2nd order. They told me that it was out of stock and it wouldn't go through.

This evening I decided to change the configuration slightly tonight with a new order. Haven't received the confirmation for that one.

Then about an hour ago I get 2 emails saying ordered confirmed for the first two laptops. Grrrr. So annoyed will have some cancelling to do in the morning

I got an email at lunchtime today to say the order had been cancelled so I phoned Dell. 4 operators later I was told the Win 8.1 configuration was the cause of the problem. We went through the os options but during that conversation the operator spotted it was no longer in stock. I might order again and see how it pans out as I know the laptop is still on the website.

Just to clarify, I never got an actual order per se - I only received the acknowledgment receipt.

18 Aug 16 #134
Boottime will be nearly the same on all devices. You can have the best hardware in the world and it will still take 45s and more to boot up, as long you go with a HDD. It is a absolut bottleneck, slowing down the complete system, especially those 2.5" format HDD with only 5400rpm. Try an SSD and you will never go back again.

So when are these new laptops expected with the high end GPU?
ihaveaquestion
18 Aug 16 1 #125
The graphics was also a sticking point for me, but tbh I only play super basic games, and if I wanted to play the latest games against friends I'd probably just get a console. Also, the only time I've had a good gaming laptop, the graphics card was the weak point and shortened the life of the laptop. I went with this deal, as it's great value for what you get!

It's technically for businesses but anyone can register for it I believe, you contact the VIP sales team via chat and you send them the E-value code, beside the add to basket button. I'm not sure if you can configure it as you want as above for £299+delivery, the discount might only be applied on the price not inc. VAT).

I'd be interested to hear if anyone tried it with a sales agent, would make a sweet deal all the sweeter!

Still umming and ahhing about this. There's no doubt that it's a very good spec for the price, but rightly or wrongly, I think my hesitation is caused by the sheer ugliness of the machine.

Before they had my money: 1 to 3 days to dispatch
After they had my money: 4 days later, still in pre-production and estimated delivery date of 30th Aug.

Not in any hurry for it so not a problem but just slightly disappointed with how much the estimated time changed as soon as my card had been charged.

But...thanks for posting this and the directions, looking forward to finally FINALLY making the transition from desktop to laptop. Had been on the lookout for a i5/8GB for under £300 for a little while so snapped this up

Just bit the bullet, £354 with backlit keyboard and 1 year basic warranty, was offered free delivery by some complete idiot on sales chat who insisted the top loader case offer didn't exist and windows 8.1 was not cheaper than Windows 10!!
ihaveaquestion to 16ooEman
16 Aug 16 #100
I was in two minds about the backlit display, decied again, but added the fingerprint reader. Came in at £302 in total. I didn't desperately need a new laptop but my current one is 2 1/2 years old, and I prefer Windows 7+8 to 10, so didn't want to hang on too long in case it's eventually only Windows 10 laptops available for purchase! This is a bargain in my opinion! I'm suprised it isn't 1000+ heat.

Amazing value, not worried about the I5 being a gen down. Just worried about the keyboard flex issue??...
KyleRiemen
16 Aug 16 #96
I am not sure how this works, but i think the laptop you trade in, must be worth £200 to get the £200 credit, if not you will only get "up to" £200 credit.
If it really works like that, it is not really a voucher. You could just put it on ebay.
The RAM can be upgraded for little money very easy, so no big deal.
The SSD on the HP is only 128 worth about £35 on amazon. The 1TB HDD has a similar worth. So you could sell it and swap to an SSD.
But i would go for a decent display any day, a 1366 x 768 pixels display is a No-Go.
myOpinion2
16 Aug 16 #95
The 6th gen i5 offers quite a performance boost over 5th gen plus better graphics but I'd still take the Dell and fit an SSD myself, upgrading the screen is far harder and more expensive.

Of course no one wants win8.1 :stuck_out_tongue: - it's Vista all over again but you can still upgrade to Win10 for free, yes the official free upgrade has ended but simply use the Assistive upgrade option (ie people that need special assistance features) and you can upgrade any applicable version to Win10 for free.

Selecting Win8.1 reduces the price, otherwise you'll pay £21.70 +VAT more for Win7 or 10

Regarding to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-Latitude-3550-0123-Notebook-Review.152728.0.html
"Dell equipped our review unit with an IPS display that offers wide viewing angles. This means the display content is visible from every position. It is no problem to use the notebook outdoors thanks to the good results for the brightness, the contrast and obviously the matte display surface."

The error for using the "wrong" win8 version i think is, because you did not choose the 64-bit-version, which is needed to run 8gb of ram.

I refreshed the page and another windows 8 option appeared and it was ok with that one. I don't think it was me, but the stupid rarely realise they are being!

May I ask if you're certain it is an IPS panel - as all I saw was 1080p. That is what would swing it for me, leaving me just to decide on paying £100 to upgrade to a 4 year on site warranty vs 1 year rtb.
