Just flash an old version on it, or better still, go on XDA as there is a Marshmallow build that actually makes it usable again as it strips back a lot of the stuff that you dont need.

This is a good price for the 2013 one, not so much the 2012 one though.

change what? the nexus or the lollipop update? if it's the lollipop, how? I loved my nexus but that update rendered it close to useless.

I had a 2012 when it was considered the tablet to buy. I haven't read up on tablets for a while. Which are now considered the best non Apple tablet budget buy?

this might be ok for just a bit of multimedia but it's slow as anything with the latest update - basically unusable unless you're supremely patient. I wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone these days - for any price.

I used to have one of these. 7" isn't a good size. Too small for watching films properly yet too big to be pocket-able. Far better to get a 9" or 10" tablet.

WARNING AVOID lollipop update !!Apart from that it's still a great tablet with a higher build quality compared to other cheap tablets at this price.

I've just used the Parrott Mod on my Nexus 7 2012. It has saved it and is now somewhat zippy again.

I have the 2012 version and it runs Lollipop fine. It was awful after the upgrade but I did a complete reset and then cleared the cache partition as below, now runs like a dream.

Even though its getting long in the tooth now, I still believe the Nexus 7 2013 is the best budget buy. It's got 2GB Ram, FHD screen, (unlike many budget tablets,) and is running Android M 6.0.1 like a champ today. If you want a bit bigger, try to get an LG v500. Again, 2GB Ram, FHD screen and SD card slot. Stick on CM13 and once again it trounces the competition. Either of these can be picked up second hand for around £70.

is this not a terrible price? I paid about £110 for a 3G 32gb 2012 version within a year of its release, near mint on eBay. that was before brick-gate

As has been said many times these is a pretty good deal considering the custom firmwares that you can install.

If you need the latest and greatest this is not for you.

Cant belive this post has got this much heat. Its an outdated 2012 Nexus for £69. My local Asda has it and its not worth the price. The 2013 Nexus were sold for £49 by Asda before to clear their stock..

Had to find now at RRP, I think Nvidia have secretly discontinued them. I suppose a new version is to be announced.

Nope. No new shield tablet version, the hardware has gone to Nintendo Nx. Google it.

Im well aware of that as I do Android game development but its all rumours until Nintendo confirms whats in the NX next month.

How can this possibly be hot? This tablet used to be fantastic but pretty much everyone on this site says it's pretty much useless now.

I have a 8. 3" v500. It is a great tablet and a good size for me - I have 5" mobile and 10" iPad so this is a great compromise. It has pretty good performance but mine is stock and slowing down slightly - currently debating whether to just wipe it clean and restart or find a Marshmallow Rom to put on it.

If your v500 is out of it warranty period then go for it! The performance on CM13 is great and you don't have to contend with all of the LG bloat. Just be aware that you will lose a few of the good things in the LG bloat, (IR blaster, wireless storage, etc.)

Mine was useless after the lollipop update, stuck cyanogenmod on it and works quickly again.

My 2013 version is a brick after latest update, won't load past the google page
