Not bad price for 50 inches 4K TV. Do not ask me for details, I don't own one (yet) :disappointed:
Use the code GET20, thank you Pavel76 for letting me know:)

In a nutshell, it’s the ability to display a wider and richer range of colours, much brighter whites, and much deeper, darker blacks. This gives the TV picture a more ‘dynamic’ look, which is where the name comes from.

What you're doing there is attaching loyalty to brand names based on experience from years ago. You are a bands dream.

All those manufacturers now outsource some manufacturing and simply badge products relying on consumer loyalty from yester-year. Keep buying what you know. The more enlightened will look at the market with objective eyes and make informed decisions based on current models. I'm not saying this particular TV is any good - but I bet you will find worse Philips, samsung, LG or Panasonic for more money.

Oh and as for warranty - that's usually the retailers not the manufacturers. Richer sounds offer 5/6yr warranties on Hisense Tv's (sponsors of Euro 2016 btw)

I'm tempted to buy a Hisense to replace my kaput Samsung, they're a cheaper brand but build quality wise they're on par with the likes of LG and Samsung.

I've seen a couple of their larger offerings 65 inchers both curved and flat and they were on par with our Samsung UE65H8000 and that was over £2000 in 2014.

I purchased a newly released 2016 model 65" Hisense TV (65K5510) just as the Euro 2016 tournament kicked off. It was replacing my top end 50" Panasonic VT series, anyone worth their salt in technology will know that's a very decent TV to be taking over its place.
When watching Freeview HD it upscale's the picture, still nowhere near 4K but still up there with the Panny. SD channels are ok but great, this is due the the TVs sheer size it's stretching the low quality image over a large screen ALL large screens will suffer from this, nothing to do with the quality of the TV itself. PS4 looks amazing and has no input lag what so ever. Unsurprisingly 4K content looks jaw dropping good, plus this TV has loads of settings, savings and options to play around with unlike Panasonic's very basic format.

I shall be upgrading to Hisense ULED technology when it hits their 75" benchmark models next year, but for now I'm more than happy with this little one.

As for the clueless monkeys out there. This isn't a budget brand TV that you find in your local Argos store, its High quality, High in technology at a very reasonable price. Where were Lucky Goldstar and Samsung 10 years ago? Pretty sure they weren't the 3rd largest TV manufacturer on the planet, in fact I bet Hisense assemble LG & Samsung's TV's for them.

I got the firmware update a couple of days ago (long overdue) YouTube does now play in 4K (enable video info in settings to see the resolution being played). The info for the update said Amazon Prime also supported but not looked to see if it's there.

Oh, and the other fix is making the HDMI 2.0 ports fully HDCP 2.2 compliant. Before the update Netflix on the Nvidia Shield would not output 4K, it now does.

As others have said it's good quality TV especially for the price. It won't support HDR if that bothers you, but I don't believe you'll get anything as good without paying considerably more. Not sure about input lag when gaming on a PC, I know there was a lot of discussion about this so check if that's what you want to use it for, but input lag on Xbox One is not noticeable at all (for me anyway) the measurement is quoted somewhere but if looking it up make sure it's after the December 2015 firmware update as this improved it considerably.
Richierea
5 Aug 16 1 #71
As far as I know the 315 is 2015 model and the 3300 is 2016 model. The 3300 is supposed to support HDR, but again I believe that might be after a firmware update (I have waited since March for the firmware update on my TV which has only just arrived, so don't hold your breath!). I'm sure someone will confirm if that's correct. As for any other difference I haven't looked, but other than HDR probably not a lot.

Yester year?
Samsung is a new comer to mainstream technology.
Uhmm... Samsung make their own panels. Outsource? Bang & Olufson do that and the panel supplier is Samsung....
I've worked in the tech field for 10 years. I buy off Samsung direct. Never bough even batteries from Richer Sounds or TJ Huges etc.
No, I have a Samsung washing machine and the 5 year warranty is direct with Samsung. No third party retailer is involved.
I think you need to shut down and be quiet. You trying to talk as if you know who I am. Yet you really dont.
Look, do wtf you want with your earnings... I really do not care.
I'm not a brand nutcase. I buy wtf I like and know is good value for money.
However, buy your Hisense crap. See how well they enforce the warranty. A bit like the Huawei brand. Go buy a Huawei mbile phone and see where you can have a repair locally done on the phone once it messes up. YOu;ll find you have to send it off for a month rather than a week when compared to a Samsung, Apple, or LG.
Tell me then, who else does Ambilight apart from Philips? No one!!! As Philips are also a lighting specialist!! If you are telling me Hisense do the same like for like product at a cheaper price, then you are talking nonsense and need some common sense!
By the way, I drive a Kia. So no, I am not a "brands dream"!. As I will not buy Ford, Opel/Vauxhall, VW, BMW, Mini or Audi... Nor Mercedes..

Just to confirm, this is the model I have. The firmware updated a couple of days ago and I do now have Amazon Prime video app which is playing at 4K. Also YouTube now plays 4K. (Netflix has always worked at 4K).

As for hdcp 2.2 I believe this is now working. As I posted earlier my Nvidia Shield would not play Netflix at 4K (as discussed on other forums this was due to hdcp 2.2 issue), since the firmware upgrade the Shield is now showing Netflix content at 4K, so I can only assume it's been fixed.

I use my PS4 on it every day, it's the main use and it's perfect. So much better than my old Full HD TV I had, you can really tell the difference and I've not got any complaints with input lag / blurring either. For the price, it's such a bargain, and I game a lot!
Richierea to jamesross93
5 Aug 16 #117
I use mine mainly for Xbox One gaming. Absolutely no issue with image quality or lag/blur. Yes, will run at 60fps. This replaced my old Panasonic plasma (about 7 years old) and is far superior (the Panasonic was great in it's day but technology changes fast).
For the price it's a bargain, yes spend another £500 and you will get something better, but at this price can't fault it and now with the updated firmware everything works as it should.

HDR might be nice, not seen to compare the difference, so if buying now that would be the only thing I would have to consider.

May I ask two questions. 1. Can you easily see the difference between Netflix 1080p and 4k? (genuine question, I've not seen them myself so have no idea at all 2. What speed internet do you have and is that always sufficient for 4k streams?

Thanks

Could anyone please confirm what version firmware/software they have please? I have the 55m3300 & my YouTube is only playing HD (used video info in the YouTube settings), so was wondering if anyone with the same model has had an update? Thanks in advance.

I have 200Mb Virgin internet, and yest it plays 4K streaming no issues (and I should hope so too!).

As for the difference between Netflix 1080p and 4k, being totally honest I can hardly tell the difference. I know the TV can look incredible with 4k content, I have downloaded several sample files (like the ones you see playing in the shops) and they look awesome. I can only assume the bit rate is so much lower on Netflix that you lose a lot of picture quality. The same applies to Amazon Prime. What I would be interested in seeing is an UHD disc playing as i'm sure the bit rate is going to be considerably higher on those.

Just found an Avforums article comparing 4k Netflix to Blu-ray which might be of interest:

Just to post a bit more info for anyone purchasing this TV now. The firmware upgrade started rolling out a few days ago and according to Hisense will roll out over 2 weeks depending on your serial number/current firmware, so if it doesn't update straight away this might be why (not sure if forcing to check update in settings will force the update through).

Also, once updated, the Amazon Prime app may not appear straight away, they say to allow 24 hours for it to install (mine showed up the following day).

5 Aug 16 #126
You might find what you need in the AVforums thread for the 3300:

Or ask in there i'm sure you will get a response.

Thanks - excellent answer and link too!

I suspected that this might be the case - TBH I struggle to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p at any sensible distance - I do wonder if the whole 4k thing is a bit of a marketer's wet dream - "ooh a bigger number, I can sell that..". That and ageing eyes.

200mbps eh? Nice if you can get it. I'm "stuck" on 78mbps via Infinity (which I'm lucky to get as I'm within 40 yards of the cabinet). As the avforums article says, we need physical media for proper 4k or bigger bitrates from the likes of Netflix..

My point was more that Philips TV isn't really Philips of old nut owmed and made by another Chinese company.
Thanks for the clarification regarding Sharp though, as I was under the impression Hisense had bought the brand name outright, though i have only read headlines to that extent - good to know so i don't make myself look a tit in future

I have to say I don't always believe it's as simple as higher the resolution the better the picture, I think it's down to the source just as much. I have played a Blu-ray on this TV and probably just as good (maybe better) than 4k Netflix. But then some people swear 4k on Netflix is incredible and can't go back to 1080p after....I don't get it.

When I bought the TV YouTube couldn't play 4k, and yet people on the forums were commenting how amazing 4k on YouTube looked. It wasn't until they were told how to check the video info option that they realised they were only watching in 1080p. I have to agree the clips did look good even at 1080p but goes to show how hard it is to see the difference.

As you say though, very few manufacturers of TVs left from the old days of the big Japanese/European/Korean brands.

Problem is there's no profit in it any more. Any monkey can build a TV reliable enough to get through warranty and safety checks these days (since there are Chinese companies making the boards to order). When you look at just about any 'Chinese' TV (and this includes Cello, Hisense, Seiki and UMC, even though most of these are made in Europe), they look more or less identical inside -- because they're just built from the same generic parts. They're almost like clone PCs nowadays for the most part.

So the old names are pulling out, one by one. Sharp's expertise has always been with components so I'd expect them to go back to what they're good at -- so there's no need to keep the name going on TVs. Similar story with Philips, Hitachi etc. Panasonic are going the same way so it's only a matter of time before Samsung and LG represent the top-end.

I'm not convinced the Chinese companies will ever go upmarket though as it's still a race to the bottom in the Chinese market.

Wow, so many soap boxes in this topic.

I'd personally say it's an ok deal, but I'd personally add a few more quid and get a HDR model but that's me.

Hisense make good tech but read many disgruntled owners waiting for apps and glitches to be sorted and after being promised them for many months they still haven't resolved them.

Samsung generally have their apps all sorted but obviously a few more quid. I suppose you could pick up an Nvidia shield or Xbox One S to get your 4K content..

True but Sony are going the same way. They already outsource production of cheaper sets in the North American market, sadly. They're not as far down the road as Panasonic (whose self-manufactured sets are still more reliable than Sony's) but they'll follow soon enough.

Put your Samsung toys back in your pram, no need to get so excited. I was only challenging your somewhat sweeping statement that people should buy because of a badge. There have been some truly awful Sony and Panasonic TVs, which by your logic are better.

We were talking TV warranties, not washing machines. Who wants ambilight anyway - you don't exactly see the market awash with them. If you're saying Samsung are newcomers then there will have been a time when your slightly irrational argument was - Don't buy Samsung, stick to the well known brands like Sony, Bush, so you've shot yourself in your foot there haven't you. Well done buying your batteries from Samsung direct, I'm sure they're eternally grateful.

Oh and in your wildly off topic rant drifting into washing machines, phones, cars, lighting you mention Huawei. Google P6 is made by Huawei, and you'll get a next day replacement for a faulty P6.

And for the record I still watch a Panasonic Plasma. I'll upgrade once 4k/HDR has matured a little more and stops evolving. Who knows it may be a Hisense, it may not. I'll judge against what else is available without brand prejudice.

annnd relax.

lmao. we're in 2016.
I worked for Philips up until 2011. TPV bought 51% of Philips in 2012. That was 4 years ago.
what broke Philips is the fact they invested ambilight Technology in "This is it" for Michael Jacksons comeback. the financial strain never showed right away. His Billie Jean outfit lit up to match the way the music video paving stones lit in the video..
I hate to break it to you, but you cannot count. Lastly, Aoc dont build the Philips TVs. they just collect the revenue.
N1Andy
7 Aug 16 #164
Surprising you wouldn't know this then, as TPV Technology bought the vast majority of Philips TV and monitor manufacturing business way back in 2005, leaving Philips with the high-end part of the TV business. It later formed a new company called TPVision (initially partially owned by Philips, but later bought outright) for the full Philips TV production and manufacturing.

You are right on one aspect though, AOC don't build Philips TV's, as they are merely a trading name that TPV use. Philips manufacturing plants owned by TPV since 2005 manufacture the majority of Philips branded TV's.

Yes, I read that thanks. It relates to the tv before the subsequent significant software updates and also the price has dropped by about £100. Amazon video has been added - but there's not a lot of free Prime content. However, upscaling of both live tv and videos is quite effective

Hi all. Had the TV delivered earlier this week. Having problems with the freeview tuner. After scanning for channels via antenna I am missing quite a lot of the channels. Anyone else experiencing this? Any work around? Before getting the new Hisense I had a freeview box which got the full channel list so the aerial is not the issue. Tried rescanning, no joy. Unplugged the aerial and scanned again to remove the saved channels and scanned again. Still no luck.

Hmm I think I've found a bit of a problem with this TV- apparent lack of support for exFAT or NTFS on the USB ports- means no partitions of more than 8gb or files of more than 4gb, on the USB ports. What use is that, when what limited 4k video is available, is all massive? I can't see things getting any better when HD blu ray comes out either, the files on these are going to be into the hundreds of gigs territory. If anyone comes across a workaround for this that would be good- at the moment, because my graphics card won't go to 2160, I can't view the little 4k I can find.

Missing freeview channels. I was flicking through the channel list the other day and some of the freeview channels that were missing from the autoscan are now present! There is a setting in the menu to automatically permit channel updates so this seems to be why they are suddenly present. A number of channels are still missing so am hoping the imminent firmware upgrade might help. Anyone have the upgraded firmware and have its version number so I can check against mine?

Regards franc
