Add something that's crazily overpriced into a deal and it does not suddenly become a good deal. B&O headphones + a DAC worth £300? Maybe they're priced like that but they're certainly not worth it. Far better alternatives for cheaper, just Google "best headphones" or "best DAC". Notice how nothing B&O is on anyone's list. Cold.
pkchips to commenter14
31 Aug 16 2 #16
Each to their own. DAC has a premium because it's the only DAC that can be plugged into & become part of the phone.

If you don't like them, sell second-hand for a minimum of £100 and get a good deal on just the G5

Could you have found the same package from an onshore, trusted seller, new for the same price or cheaper?

If the answer is no then you should have used logic and voted hot. Rather than moaning about RRP claims and B&O as a brand.

Take initial comments & voting on this site with a pinch of salt, although 270° to the good after only 4-5 hours is very good.

When the OP3 deal was posted initially, it was very negatively commented on & voted only cold for ~2 weeks, even going down to around minus 200°. Go & have a look now at what it ended up with before it expired for the price.

3 possible options:

It's £439.99 on Very at present (comes with the Cam Plus, which you can sell perhaps to make the phone even cheaper).
When you open a new Very account, they'll give you 10% off with voucher code: KLLHN, so making the phone £396 (£439.99 - 43.99).

Or, £399.99 from Amazon directly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-G5-32-SIM-Free-Smartphone/dp/B01CDZYXXE

Or, ~£350 from a well-established eBay seller (t-dimension10) & sent from the UK:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-G5-H860-Dual-LTE-32GB-Silver-Unlocked-Eng-DE-IT-ES-FR-gft-Ship-fm-UK-X1333-/262476215469
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-G5-H860-Dual-LTE-32GB-Black-Unlocked-Eng-DE-IT-ES-FR-gft-Ship-from-UK-X1219-/262432154924

Gadget Monocle is situated in Hong Kong, so yes, definitely one to avoid.

That's a good deal. I have had the G5 since launch and had no issues with it - still really fast, battery life is fine, and the wide angle camera is suprisingly useful. No issues with build quality on mine. The headphones are great, though I'm sure I could get equal performance for a lot less without the B&O branding you can't deny the build quality is nice. Can't comment on the DAC - my deal came with a B&O bluetooth speaker instead which is also excellent. Good price for 4gb RAM SD820 phone with good headphones that should be among the first to get Android Nougat. Replaceable battery was main reason I went for this over the S7 on contract.

Headphones and DAC are, well, poor. If only after IEMs, in my opinion would be going for a second hand good quality armatures with maybe broken or cracked shell, customising them (even adding a driver or two) and using Onkyo HF Player app without any Pre or DAC. As for LG, I'm not Android user.

Just popped into a shop to see what the handset feels like in hand. It's quite a bit larger than I expected compared to my S4, which is a plus. On the negative side there was about a 1mm gap between the screen and the removable bit at the bottom. Can any of the owners comment on this? Have you come across this problem? I understand that the gap on the display model was developed due to the shoppers fiddling around with it but it did put me off...

Just a bit of advice based on experience:

Ive had my LG G4 for 10 month (11 if you include the last month that LG has it to fix the infamous bootloop error). Ive been lucky enough to have someone contact me every week to tell me its in a backlog of phones to be looked at. Its been 17 working days. My phone developed this error on the 15th of July. Luckily i use Google Photos to backup so i lost only a couple of pics, but i would never buy another LG phone again based on this.

If that sounds too harsh, take a look at this video review of all the issues that many people are reporting with the G5:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDAHpo2wi1s

I dislike bad mouthing a company, but LG has done nothing to help me get a phone back. Honestly, go for Apple, Samsung, HTC even. Dont waste your money on LG when their after care support is utter rubbish.

31 Aug 16 #60
I don't think you understand what constitutes a good deal. If I want a new phone, some earphones and a DAC, this is not a good deal.
Smartguy1
31 Aug 16 #61
I think you read my post wrong. The deal for the G5 is good. I have the G4 so the G5 would be first on my shopping list. I paid about this price for mine which came with a free watch which I sold.

My point was really that Samsung have marketed their phones with Apple prices knowing that there are some who will pay the £485.00 (amazon current price) for the S7 32gb. LG on the other are clever marketing their phones less than Samsung and throwing in a free gift hence the heat for LG and ice cubes for Samsung. So long as the G5 doesn't suffer from the unreliable motherboard of the early G4's then it will be a market leader.

If Samsung want to shift some stock and get heat on here they need to lower their prices.

I think the word 'interesting' I used was taken too deeply and was actually meant as a dig at Samsung and people who post any deals for the S7 or S7 Edge because there aren't any deals to be had. Obviously the G5 is going to attract heat at this price just as the G4 did and one of the reason I bought it instead of the S6 which was my first choice. What's the point in spending extra cash when something else is just as good for my needs.

After the widespread bootloop problem with the G4 and LG's poor customer service getting people's affected phones fixed, I don't think I'm ever going to buy a LG phone again, no matter how good these specs are..

31 Aug 16 #64
Agree that the LG customer service with regard to the lg4 bootloop is appalling. I never did get to speak to anyone on the phone after a week of trying. Promised call backs never happened and the on line fault recording didn't work. Sent it back to the retailer in the end and got a refund. Exceptional problem and hopefully a one off. Shame as the lg4 was so good that i would still consider an lg5 if the price is right. The lg5 is not a rip roaring success and prices may dip further in the coming weeks/months.
Smartguy1
31 Aug 16 1 #65
Well I had excellent service when mine broke. It's sometimes better not to deal with anyone until they physically have your phone. I registered mine on their website, filled in the online form on report a problem. They sent DPD round within with a box and a label. I handed my phone to the driver and had it back in just over a week.

Remember that whoever you buy your phone from your warranty is with them and NOT LG. LG can rightfully and legally turn round and say they are not prepared to do anything as they do not have a contract with you. They don't. Your contract covered by the laws in the UK are with the retailer of the product, i.e. the company who sold it to you. Mine was with Virgin and it went back to them first who then said they couldn't repair my phone and could only offer me an 'as new' phone which was an S6 which I refused. Got in touch with LG and they offered to repair my phone. Virgin it would seem had no stock of the G4 and as it was over 6 months old could only offer me an exchange. Not sure why they wouldn't send it back to LG but in the end I got my phone sorted and had great service from both Virgin and LG. In fact Virgin even called me to see if I had got my phone back ok.

misterleoni
1 Sep 16 #75
Shouldn't get worse over time, it's just a gap where the end cap pushes against the phone. Mine has it and I've never seen one without it though some people swear blind theirs doesn't have this gap. Overall I prefer this device to the S7 and S7 Edge, having owned all three - I went S7 Edge, G5, S7, G5! For the money this is a great bundle.

The source isn't analogue. All phones already convert digital (the music files on your phone) to analogue. The idea of the DAC/Amp attachment is that it does a better job of it.

Interesting - I can believe that DACs are heavily marked up compared to the manufacturing cost. Then again, that's true of most things.

If you made one in college, good on you. Here's why this DAC represents good value, and is probably better than what you built:

1. 32-bit high-res audio capability means it's future proof - if this becomes an industry standard, you'll be able to listen to hi-res music on your current laptop/phone without upgrading. Most DACs don't do 32-bit
2. When using with my PC, all background noise disappears giving me a much cleaner audio stream at lower volumes. It's a marked difference, and it's superior to my £50 SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 which also has some interference noise
3. LG G5 compatibility means this is the only DAC that can improve my phone's sound quality without adding an ugly big block on the end of it
4. Reputable brands (B&O, LG) come with other benefits, such as confidence that if anything goes wrong, they will sort it out (even if they might be slow to do it)
DocRobotnik
1 Sep 16 #92
So they took the old, broken G4?
Djd1981
1 Sep 16 #93
Google "LG G4 bootloop" and this is what happened to mine. It was still under warranty and they originally tried to repair it, but were unable to. The guy on the phone said they had received loads and had been briefed that morning that is was likely to be refund or G5 replacement as they had ran out of the necessary component to repair the phone.

I've got all this kit and had it for quite some time; the phone was great until I experienced the known GPS issue, I need to get around to sending it in for repair but other than that, I am liking the phone having switched from being a perennial Sony Xperia user. Headphones to be honest are average, mine are about to go on eBay. the DAC though is tremendous, one of the best phone accessories I've bought. It really cleans up the sound and acts as an amp too. I've got a fiio box which is not as good as the b&o/lg DAC and is now redundant, add to the fact that you can use it over USB on a mac or pc as well as attaching to the phone, it's a really good bit of kit.

But like i said don't care about dac headphones and other fizzy stuff

I've been on the fence with this deal, probably won't go for the Rose gold unless I get a chance to see one.

The G5 specs are excellent but as I like my audio I think I'm being tempted more by the bundle and doing man math by looking at the savings against the total separate purchase price. The G5 add on modules seem good but you have to turn the phone on and off to install them, also I'd want to leave the DAC on full time but I haven't found a case that supports the extra length the DAC adds to the phone.

I'm still looking at the Oneplus 3 which does not have the audio quality but looks to be a decent phone, for £40 more considered the HTC 10 which has hi res sound built in or a 128Gb iPhone 6, old now but still a good phone.

Don't buy this phone. I had it for a week and i had to send it back do to a faulty camera. When camera in use for more than 10-20 minutes the phone will freeze and you must restart to make it work again.
Check reviews on internet before buythis phone and you'll find many issues with this phone.

Thank you, unfortunately there aren't many options for cases with the B&O attached, my preference would be a book or jacket style as I'm not sure how good the protection is of the types of case in the link. Good find.

Did you go through directly to LG for your repair or through your network? If I could get a G5 as a replacement out of it I'd be half tempted, rather than go to Vodafone tomorrow and ask for a refund.

This bootloop issue hasn't hit my G4 yet but mines a 506 so I'm worried - anyone know the % chance of getting the problem? I fancied the G5 but seems the bootloop issue has also affected some G5's as well and there's way to much negative talk on the build quality being very iffy on the G5 in part due to the semi modular design. This review sealed it for me:

http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/03/31/lg-g5-review-a-bit-of-a-mess-frankly/
ebngy
5 Sep 16 #126
I've read a few reviews Beastman, in the end i gave up as they are comparing the G5 which is at least £100 less than the S7. I looked at the S7 Edge, i don't like the screen it seems oversaturated to me and I find it difficult to justify £550+ for a phone.

What I did get from the reviews is that the S7 is a better phone and the G5 is in the pack behind it. Its a premium phone all the same.

The build quality issue I assume is the gap where the module disconnects or the plasticky feel? Mine will be covered in a Spigen case so doesn't worry me.

Bootloop issue how frequent is that? I have had the LG G2 and G3 (both grey imports) never had a problem with them fingers crossed..

I do feel these reviews are dancing round the edges with quality phones . They need to justify you reading the article after all. I still read them all the same

Saw it came back in stock today too- ordered, thanks OP! Could have got it I think for £405 by ordering a gift card for £430 (6% discount) with an NHS discount site I'm a member of- but in the end didn't want to take the risk in the event that it develops any faults- am sure it would have been fine, but have never done it before and it seems an awful lot of money to take the risk with...

Did anyone get a dispatch email from Argos? I ordered Monday when it came back in stock- no further emails aside from initial order one, and on their website it still just says 'order in progress'. Haven't ever used Argos for home delivery, but I would have expected a few more order updates/ ETA's like most other big companies do!

Good to see these back in stock, still on the fence between this and the HTC 10.

The HTC has 24 months warranty, the LG is probably 12 months but the web site isn't specific http://www.lg.com/uk/support/warranty

Does anyone know if Argos offering the standard 12 or a 24 month warranty?

Any opinions re: the DAC or headphones?

Mine with same serial just freezed and died completely today, i took battery and then i tried to turn on - No Luck! Will be sending it for warranty and no more LG for me at least. Previously had Lg G2 - it was good, then G3 - died on me, got full refund and got G4 now 11 months after it died. Probably will invest in something cheaper now like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro 32GB from Aliexpress.
Badongkadong

My sister bought a Redmi Note 3 from HK and it's been working pretty well for my mum; however, I can't say it's an "investment" as I know that if anything goes wrong, that's it... it'll have to be a new phone.

Just thinking whether this won't have locked bootloader. I've got LG G4 European which were the only versions that had official unlock supported by LG whilst other models never got it. Anyone know how to get this phone so it uses the SD Card as Adoptive Storage in Marshmallow?
Badongkadong
15 Sep 16 #147
No but I am 100% certain that the UK retailers, unless importing, will only sell the single sim H850 model.
Badongkadong
15 Sep 16 #148
Can you explain why you need that? The reason I say this is that adoptive storage is for budget phones with small internal storage; removable microsd cards and not designed for constant writes so using it as adopted storage will greatly increase the risk of card failure.
GQ Man
15 Sep 16 #149
Sure well saying that adoptive storage is for budget phones is incorrect mate TBF not sure where you picked that up from but anyhow in simple terms RESTRICTION meaning in 2016 32gb of onboard storage is frankly laughable myself aswell as a Shed ton of others run into this Exact problem i had a Note 3 which had 32gb of onboard storage and a 64gb micro sd card yet with the vast catalogue of games/apps and many of which are easily more than 1gb and the limited ability to move said apps to SD Card or at best alot of the time you can only move just a little bit of the data across you end up using the 32gb Easily and having loads of space left on your SD Card which is useless i now have a Nexus 6 with 64gb internal storage and thats pretty much full along with all of my music etc it just doesn't work for me and loads of others.
Badongkadong
15 Sep 16 #150
Again, I'll reiterate. Removable microsd cards are not designed for constant writes as part of internal storage.
You don't have to believe me. Inside Marshmallow: Adoptable storage http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-adoptable-storage

Well worth a read.
GQ Man
16 Sep 16 #151
Obviously a memory card period isn't designed to be written to regularly but the fact is nobody knows as of yet how this is going to go id take my risk not have to have the restriction honestly, out of interest does the LG OS like Sammy phones let you move apps across to the ext SD card with those that support it ?
Badongkadong
17 Sep 16 #152
For a detail analysis of this whole adoptable storage malarky, read here.

Just out of interest, isn't enough to keep all your videos and photos on the removable storage? Do you tend to install big games? I think we should campaign for OEMs to release variants with bigger internal storage; the iPhone 7 now goes up to 256GB...
GQ Man
17 Sep 16 #153
Yes i have lots of decent games in my Humble app aswell as many great titles in the Amazon app before underground aswell as Google play store purchases literally i could fill that space with less than 20 games so its not good i do take my hat off to Samsung though being the first to offer a stock version of 64gb on their Note 7 though and of course reluctantly ill tip my hat to Apple for offering a 256gb option although a mute point as it costs insane money, 2 questions can you keep your music on a micro sd card and move app data across on those that allow it like Samsung phones do ?
Badongkadong
17 Sep 16 #154
Music is fully accessible, any reason why it wouldn't be?
LG hasn't enabled move apps to sd but I may be wrong. Having said that, if you had a large Microsd card you can always keep the apk in storage so you can move between games? No easy answer as android really isn't a fan of moving apps to sd due to performance related issues.
GQ Man
20 Sep 16 #155
SORTED for Adoptive Storage after installing the official LG driver from their site it literally took 5 minutes and after to many hours research its be come blatantly obvious that the best cards to put in for Adoptive Storage are the Samsung Evo Plus due the best random 4k speeds even better than the Pro plus, apparently many people have been doing this for months now with great performance/reliability, and best of all this can be done without Root or voiding anything and can be easily reversed at any time.

Hi Guys,

Want to get the Mrs. a new phone. Kinda like the idea of this and stealing the ear phone for myself :-P

However is this phone raelly much better than say a Nexus 5x which is over £200 cheaper? The main thing for her is best possible quality camera for point and shoot. For me it's staying either side the £200 mark for the phone itself.

I have a 6P and love it, it's fantastic, plus I know these the Nexus will receive Andoird updates into back end of 2017 and I love stock Android. Need to get phone no later than 7th October and I know Google are unveiling the Pixel lineup 04/10/16. Do you think it's best to wait untill then? 5X was actually cheaper a couple of months ago!

Cheers

23 Sep 16 #157
The 5x has a decent camera on par with the 6p but the G5 does have the extra wide lense. What would your wife be upgrading from?

HTC One M8
Badongkadong
23 Sep 16 #159
The M8 had a 4Mpix "Ultrapixel" camera which had less than stellar picture quality; most notably due to the low pixel count (I will stress more pixels DOES NOT equate to better picture but 4 mpx is too low) so either the 5x or the G5 will represent a huge upgrade for her in terms of camera quality.
