I'll consider 'upgrading' to 4K once 65"+ 4K OLED TVs become really affordable, by then there might be enough good 4k content to make it worthwhile.

OLED is well worth sacrificing for 4k; it will be ages before 4k is broadcast under Freeview etc or free.

Can you really differentiate between 4k and 1080p on a 55" screen at a normal viewing distance?

I have virgin media and my 4k content looks brilliant. I have both amazon and netflix. My tvs wifi streams 4k equally good as my fire tv 4k. I also have a non 4k box and there is a clear difference in the stream. Not to mention some Amazon content has HDR.

Good priced TV well done - but to stream ultra 4k won't be available to many (due to the speed of the broadband connection required and th current state of the infrastructure in the UK) and I worry that the fiml companies won't bother much with the 4k ultra DVDs - you will need to buy rather than rent and so back to the issue of little top quality content. I read that the Netflix & Amazon etc 4k feeds are'nt suppose to be of that good quality.

Sadly streaming is the way forward. Love my Amazon fire box 4k version. Lots of 4k content through netflix and Amazon. Throw in Kodi with Plex and I rarely watch my virgin media stuff. But your right 2 to 3 years there will be a new whoo Haa probably 8k. On price conscious I'm chuffed as I got an EX. display 55Inch 4k hdr from John Lewis for £800. I couldn't believe it everywhere else it was at least £1200. Not to mention it still does 3d which I'm a fan of even though it seems to be dying lol.

Can't argue with that logic and would agree 4k oled with hdr would be far superior. But then that's spending stupid money. Same with 4k/ Ultra HD blueray atm no need to jump in right away. I remember when full HD and 3D tvs were stupidly priced. Not to long ago 4k was the same. But Hisense is changing that which is good.

I had a 1080p Panasonic Plasma, which was (until it went wrong) in some respects better than current LED TVs but OLED now betters it. I chose Plasma as it gave a much more life like picture than any of the LED / LCD's at the time and much better blacks.

OLED gives a better picture than 4k Tvs and the way forward would be OLED HDR 4k. A very good 4k TV wil give a good picture but then they are very expensive.

4K is for people who sit close to their TV or have very a large TVs. Try it in shop; take a non-4k and a 4k TV ideally of comparable quality at 8-10 foot awat and the pictures will appear almost the same.

You are right that nearly all lTVs come with 4k so its hard to get one without. I hoping to get an end of line OLED non-4k and I know that once these are gone there will be no choice but to get a 4k one in the 40 & up bracket.

I won't be paying for 4k feeds; the only exception would be a 4k bluray player.

Personally I prefer great colours and blacks over more detail and I am guessing it costs more to manufacture screens that display a great picture than ones than have higher detail i.e 4k.

But each person should keep an open mind as to what they will prefer and just buy what suits them....

I see the very well recommended 4k hdr Panasonic buray player is circa £600. Will take time for these to drop down to under £100. Maybe in 18-24 mths time hdr will be a well followed standard and the 4k hdr buray players will be reasonable in cost and there will be a lot of buray 4k hdr discs out that can be rented for a reasonable cost...

Don't buy 1080p now, OLED isn't worth sacrificing 4K for it.

Also OLED ages way faster than LCD and suffers from image retention and the current OLED TVs have mad latency.

In no way am I trying to be rude but you might want to check the tv you were using with DVD and blue ray. My wife who has no technological background made various comment on how she could see the age marks of Kevin Costner in his coast guard movie on blue ray. We then compared it with DVD and it is not on the same level. I get what your saying in what you want. But it's like vhs and DVD. You can stay with the old or you can move to the future. HDR and 4k are the way forward. But don't take my word for it walk into a shop like currys or John Lewis and ask for a demonstration. It's not even close when you add the ultra HD blueray stuff. The martian has an outstanding picture in HDR.

I guess it depends what you want. I found the difference between a good DVD and a bluray DVD to be surprisingly little. Only bluray 4k sources are likely to be of decent enough quality to show a significant difference. Also 4k or 8k etc blacks on a non-oled tv will still be rendered as drak grey.

The 930 isn't a 1st gen OLED. The 880W and 880V preceded it.

I have this tv....looked at it in John Lewis,bought from RS.
I was after a new set and the lack of 4K content was a factor.
The picture is superb, colours are vibrant....3D is very good.
Lots of experts on here quoting 4K......read the reviews for this tv if you want an Oled ...I'm very happy with it.

I've got this TV and wasn't that impressed with the picture in John Lewis when I first saw it. The 4k non oled tvs either side of it had a much clearer picture...until I stepped back to a normal viewing distance and the pixels and jagged edges on text were no longer visible and it gave a much better picture than the 4k tvs. 4k is only worth it if you have a massive screen or sit very close to your TV.

LG Curved + 1st Gen = recipe for disaster.

We only have a 43inch 4k tv with the hdr.. You can see a massive difference from 1080p. Its the new lg.
