I suppose, but then you get into the game of "for just a little bit more, why don't you get this"... if you're paying £150, why not get xyz for £180 that has a better processor, etc.
Personally I think it's well balanced. I'm using one right now... screen is ok, build is ok, speed is ok, storage is ok, price is very good. I don't think that there's any one component that's worth upgrading for an additional cost. If we're talking about £150-200, I'd probably be looking at different machines entirely.

PROS:
*Its main strength is.
*its sturdiness Has sufficient horsepower.
CONS:
*Its biggest weakness is its audio. It's OK. Simply OK. Not a dealbreaker for me. But if you want top end audio-look elsewhere.
Target Demographic:
*This laptop is designed for general user who need to browse. It is possible to play some games on the machine, I even managed to edit some video but it main virtue is it's a light, well made, internet tool.
Design:
*With its rubberised or water proof keyoard it's both quite solid and sleek. A black lid, dull matte finish, and it is a pleasure to look at.
Weight:
*1.25 KGs so very portable.
Display:
*Its screen is much better than I'd anticipated: bright, brilliant colours, and no reflection. Watching films is impressive. The matte screen is fantastic and the HD quality had no laggyness. (I know it's not a word but it's difficult to describe when some screens have a little lag or slowness.)
Keyboard:
*The keyboard is good. I am a little heavy when using the keyboard. The wrist rest provides solid support and there is no noticeable flex in the keyboard. The keys are comfortable to use even for prolonged periods.
Touchpad:
*It is very responsive, and all gestures are intuitive and happen without any issues.
Heat:
*It didn't get hot or fry my legs.
Performance:
*It takes about 20 seconds to boot up - and browsing, watching video, listening to music all ran comfortably - making the N22 truly versatile.
Battery life:
*I got the advertised 14 hours out of the machine. That's unusual as most laptops promise a lot but rarely deliver.
Audio:

Wifi:

I've had one of these for a month. Best £100 I've spent in a while. The battery life is excellent, I've never run it dry but have come close, recharging it a couple of times a week. The trackpad is really nice, one of the best I've used in fact. For £100 it's an absolute steal. The screen is OK, a bit angle-sensitive and it is a little slow when loading heavy sites (e.g. Google Inbox which is a tough site) but I happily sit there on the sofa when watching movies on TV, blasting around the internet and missing most of the movie.

This deal is from 2 months ago. The price has gone up since. Setting to expired.
Got one. Funny how do you don't know whether you want something until it goes up in price and you realise you regret not getting it.
I thought it would probably go back down again and sure enough...
Sorry if this was answered previously but do we know when the play store is likely to come to the N22?

It's a bit slow in my opinion. Shame as it's a nice device but it's a bit lacking in the power department.
I do like it though. I just wish it was easier to install ubuntu alongside ChromeOS as it would be nice to have the extra functionality on a device like this.
It's weird to have everything revolve around the browser. I don't have a problem with that generally but when it comes to video it can cause problems. On a traditional OS if I had a problem with a streaming video on a browser one of the easiest solutions is to just use a different browser, problem solved. Obviously this is difficult on an OS like this and it's already started playing up.

If I have read this thread correctly, then the general opinion seems to be that even if a chromebook gets android apps, they wont work properly because android apps are designed for use with a touchscreen?
So it seems preferable to buy a touchscreen chromebook?

I have the N22 side by side with my i7 laptop and have the same tabs open in Chrome on both...BBC news, HUKD, Goodreads, Lifehacker UK and Ebay.
I cleared the cache and refreshed the pages on each. The N22 is 'marginally' slower to render each page when they aren't cached in the browser. I suspect this is as much to do with the CPU as it is the type of memory. The difference is so slight that I hadn't noticed until doing this comparison.

It's a full Windows 10 Laptop with a 1080p display. I bought one and the display is very very good.
In fairness most chromebooks got a hammering in reviews, reviewers wanted them to do something different to what most users want. A quote from one poor review "I applaud Chrome OS and its simplicity, but if you want a taste of it, here's my advice on how to get it for free: download the Chrome browser on your computer, and then install your choice of apps from the Chrome Web Store. There, you're done." As if that will suddenly make the laptop they are using more portable, more secure and have better battery life. And it assumes they've such a device in the first place.

Well it's old so the battery probably lasts a lot less than it did, the storage is half the amount on here, i5 probably means it's got a fan, it's scratched to hell, just 2 months guarantee, and lastly it's got a US keyboard.

You can easily get them in the trade for that price or less. By the time the end user sees them there's a mark up etc. eBay is not a cheap place in general for computer components. You can get some good deals every now and then, keep your eyes peeled and as an end user check Preloved, Gumtree and various places like that.
I work as an IT refurbisher and we sell to retail and have a retail shop as well, we're here to make money, I promise you if there was a market for used Chromebooks we'd be selling them. The general consumer at present doesn't want them. We've tried to sell them in the past and they sat in stock for months.
What I'm describing above is different to saying Chromebooks are rubbish, they're far from it. I like them I wish more people did and then I'd sell them.

Fabulous price. I have an hp14 Chromebook and generally love it. Light, great battery life, boots up in seconds..
However I keep getting browser crashes for it running out of memory?! It's 2gb ram like this model. For example , Simple things like having three tabs open - one with a Google docs spreadsheet, the other a flash based website and the other a simple text html website. If I click off one tab to spend 3mins on another, I'll come back to find my spreadsheet has crashed with the "aww" sad android error notification. Very frustrating.
Anyone know of fixes for this?

I've also been casualty looking for a second hand Chromebook on eBay and I wish they went for peanuts as you mention. One of these yesterday when I looked was up to £60 + postage with a few hours to go, and the various others I looked at were at such a price that being second hand didn't merit a purchase.
I'm just not seeing what your seeing, but if you could point me in the direction of a £30/£40 Chromebook I'd be most appreciated
I'm looking forward to receiving mine. I have a high(ish) end laptop with 16GB RAM, i7 CPU, 3GB GFX card and a 17.1 1080P inch screen and yeah it's great for gaming but it's hardly portable, it weighs around 5kg, plus a monstrous power brick. My purchase will be used for editing spreadsheets and word docs and a bit of browsing. The HDMI out is a bonus for watching films but I won't use it very often. Pair a chromebook with a tethered phone and you've got a mobile system that's much easier to use than a tablet for peanuts.

It's also over 4 years old and was reviewed quite poorly at the time. You can find 4 year old windows i5's for a similar price,
Chromebooks actually tend to retain their value just as well as, if not better than Windows laptops do. Mostly due to the fact that they're much better at retaining their performance over the years, and are always up to date with the latest version of Chrome OS. Windows laptops have a tendancy to bog down after a few years of use. For example the 1080p Toshiba Chromebook 2 that I bought almost 2 years ago for £219 is still averaging around £200 on ebay 2nd hand from reputable sellers (the good condition ones). You'd struggle to find that kind of value retention in anything running Windows.
Also Chromebooks do run Skype (the web version), and have done for some time now. When Android apps arrive for chromebooks they'll get the fully-featured version of Skype too. You can't run iTunes on Chromebooks yet admittedly, but it's quite easy to transfer your music library over to Google Play Music.
[citation needed]
Current chromebooks still boot in 6-7 seconds... Maybe you got a faulty one? 0.o

Android apps need touchscreen. You cannot upgrade this netbook to touchscreen even if it gets the play store next year. You can wait to do the experiment and waste your money and time, when some touch screen Chrome book will run play store out of the box.

You can get a used Chromebook with a 2nd gen i5 for £99, I'm trying to spot the snag, anyone find one?
OK I found one snag, it's not on the list for getting the Play Store, however as a cheap powerful Linux machine, that takes some beating for £99 I reckon.

That my friend is complete BS. I'd love to see a reliable citation for proof of that statement. I work in IT refurbishment, it's nigh on impossible to sell a Chromebook to anyone. Not that they aren't any good, they are almost worthless second hand and many people want to run Skype and ITunes and get in to a rage when they can't and tell me how much their Chromebook sucks. In my experience Chromebooks just don't sell in the used market. For any platform to succeed regardless of how good or bad the user interface is, it needs software, software is what makes the platform. Chromebooks have massive limitations in this regard, now I and other geeky people can get more out of a Chromebook than an everyday user. I really like Chromebooks but I almost never see one in my line of work anymore as people soon work out the limitations and thing wtf have I bought here.
Lastly let's assume that Chromebooks do outsell Macbooks, most people will keep a Macbook, most people who buy a Chromebook will want to sell it not long after they bought it. The people that actually know what they want from a Chromebook do not make up a large percentage of the Chromebook purchasers. Sadly the Chromebook has a reputation like Skoda and that is very tough to shift and to be fair Chromebooks still haven't evolved enough beyond their initial limitations to change that.
The people that do realise the limitation and work within them and are happy on the platform are not a huge percentage of buyers. I'd definitely think about buying this myself and using it for some portable Linux dev work, the boot time of 20 seconds might annoy me though, I know you'd think look fishmeister wtf is wrong with that, but I remember Chromebooks booting in 8 seconds in 2012, so 20 seconds is a backwards move, I'm really finicky like that

Like I already said, the N22 will be getting Android apps within a few months. Also, Chromebooks already do enough to meet 90% of people's needs, even without Android apps. The Android apps are just a bonus.

or they're just very popular... similarly perhaps, I bought a refurb Chromecast for £20 recently, there's loads of them used for sale, but I put that down to their popularity, not problems or returns, just that ppl don't use them anymore? Its not really an upgrade, you swap between chrome and Ubuntu in a window/or a few keystrokes.
Ubuntu is a free linux based operating system. Many prefer it to windows.
Im using LibreOffice (Free ) as an alternative to Office and its supposed to be compatible with Word, Excel etc but i have an allergy to anything Microsoft so wouldn't know.
You can run some Window progs with a program called WINE, but again im not an authority on that.
Please pardon my ignorance but what is the upgrade over ChromeOS that a normal user would get from Ubuntu? Can you run windows software on Ubuntu like Office?

Sorry to hijack the thread but I am looking to get one of these. My missus has one and it is so much better than the windows laptops my kids have. My only problem is that I use a tablet for accessing a WD MYCloud drive that has loads of films on it in mkv. I have tried with her chromebook but to no avail to get them to play. I can get them to play if I xfer them onto an sd card and VLC will handle most of them. But I want the ability to stream them which it doesn't seem to be able to do. Has anyone found a work around for this? Thanks in advance.

Had one for a week, and it is a simple cute machine. Battery life is very refreshing, coming from an overpowered and now dead 17 inch Sony.
Great if you mostly browse and don't use Skype (though it may have a web interface these days - I recall logging into outlook and seeing it lurking there recently)
Much better to buy Android 2in1 which can run all apps you want like Facebook, Microsoft Office, Skype, whatsapp, viber etc., not just a few Google apps.

I bought mine as part of the Prime Day deals and absolutely love it. I sold my Macbook to get it as I realised that most of the time I was only ever browsing the web and couldn't justify the extra! I personally also work from home using it through Citrix and this runs really smoothly. Screen isn't amazing but excellent for the price and for what most use it for. When working from home I just hook it up to the external display through the HDMI and there's quite literally no difference between this and the Macbook!

Audio:
*This is the weak link of this beauty. I was underwhelmed by its performance. I used headphones and it was fine.
Wifi:
*works without any issues.

Also bought the Amazon basics sleeve

and a 128GB Samsung Drive fit flash

I thought it would probably go back down again and sure enough...
Sorry if this was answered previously but do we know when the play store is likely to come to the N22?
I do like it though. I just wish it was easier to install ubuntu alongside ChromeOS as it would be nice to have the extra functionality on a device like this.
It's weird to have everything revolve around the browser. I don't have a problem with that generally but when it comes to video it can cause problems. On a traditional OS if I had a problem with a streaming video on a browser one of the easiest solutions is to just use a different browser, problem solved. Obviously this is difficult on an OS like this and it's already started playing up.

So it seems preferable to buy a touchscreen chromebook?
Have I read that correctly?
Cheers OP.
Can see myself using this heat free, long battery cheap chromebook more than my pixel.
What would the pros / conns be in buying this rather than a stand alone unit something like http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/h96-pro-tv-box-amlogic-s912-octa-core-3gb-ram-16gb-uk-plug-4k-x-2k-hdr-h-265-decoding-2505651
It will be connected up to a projector via hdmi.
Thanks
Royal Mail Special Delivery = £50.99!!!!! I'll have the free one please!
I cleared the cache and refreshed the pages on each. The N22 is 'marginally' slower to render each page when they aren't cached in the browser. I suspect this is as much to do with the CPU as it is the type of memory. The difference is so slight that I hadn't noticed until doing this comparison.
I'm just not seeing what your seeing, but if you could point me in the direction of a £30/£40 Chromebook I'd be most appreciated

Cheapest I could find on amazon was £8.90 https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Shortening+microSD+adapter

Current chromebooks still boot in 6-7 seconds... Maybe you got a faulty one? 0.o
You can get a used Chromebook with a 2nd gen i5 for £99, I'm trying to spot the snag, anyone find one?

OK I found one snag, it's not on the list for getting the Play Store, however as a cheap powerful Linux machine, that takes some beating for £99 I reckon.
I'd definitely think about buying this myself and using it for some portable Linux dev work, the boot time of 20 seconds might annoy me though, I know you'd think look fishmeister wtf is wrong with that, but I remember Chromebooks booting in 8 seconds in 2012, so 20 seconds is a backwards move, I'm really finicky like that
Also, did I mention Android apps?
hot price.
Lenovo battery replacement
Films on the big tv and looking at the internet... never seem to watch a full film anymore
Display:

Ubuntu is a free linux based operating system. Many prefer it to windows.
Im using LibreOffice (Free ) as an alternative to Office and its supposed to be compatible with Word, Excel etc but i have an allergy to anything Microsoft so wouldn't know.
You can run some Window progs with a program called WINE, but again im not an authority on that.
I do know that VLC works very well though
Also, THIS is in the pipeline.
Great if you mostly browse and don't use Skype (though it may have a web interface these days - I recall logging into outlook and seeing it lurking there recently)
Also, it sure is strange how Chromebooks are outselling Macs, considering how "useless" they are without Android apps, don't you think?
I do wish Amazon had the 4gb ram version of this Lenovo but I don't think it's landing this side of the pond.
HOT.
