This is a heavy duty piece of kit perfect for grinding down girders or cutting cars in half. This will work out cheaper than hiring one for a day. Just please remember this is not a toy and treat it with the respect it deserves. I bought one in Craigavon today along with a little Guild bench grinder for £9.93 http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/guild-pgb150g-150w-bench-grinder-464540 if you are interested.
this is the official bumph.

Got one, thanks.
On an unrelated note, does anyone know what kind of license is required to open a tattoo removal business?

bargain, bought one today, most decent cutting discs cost more!

I also bought one today and then bought a Silverline 633588 Turbo Wave Diamond Cutting Blade off Amazon. Heat added.
I see that Homebase have 3 models: 2000W (this one), 1050W and 750W. If I were just to buy one, would I be better off buying this one rather than either of the other 2? It would just be for home DIY stuff, although I guess it would come in handy if I ever needed to cut through my bike lock.

what size is this 4 inch or 9 inch

Can confirm that disc size is 230mm which equates to 9 inches. No discs included. Better to buy discs through Amazon.

will I be able to get the grinding I always dreamed of with this one??

Definitely need 2KW for a 9" grinder, imagine the torque needed to drag a diamond blade embedded 4" deep in a brick wall.
These are heavy though (or should be); unless you've got arms like a Worlds Strongest Man contestant they're no good for de-rusting big bits of metal etc.

This one is a 9" grinder the one you bought is only 4.5" this one is twice as big.

If you do any significant amount of work, you want a 9" and a 4.5" angle grinder.
The main advantage of the 9" model is depth of cut. For example, if you want to cut a doorway through a brick wall, this is the one to have. They do need handling with respect though.
The smaller sizes are good for any small cleaning up jobs or cutting where a smaller depth of cut is required.
For the home user (such as myself), the small one gets regular use & the large one is occasional use only. But I still need it. Since it is not in regular use, a cheap one will probably do fine. My large one is a Wickes branded one.

well you've ordered two different sizes so not really a matter of which is best. you've ordered a Stanley 115mm and Guild 230mm. (although I'm guessing if they were the same size the Stanley one would be better. why not check Amazon reviews for both?

any good for car polishing? someone tried it ?

1 Sep 161#21
do not even attempt to do it with any fixed speed grinder, it will bounce as soon you touch the car, too fast. You need one with speed controller. LIDL does do one at less than £20 from time to time. It is very but very good as a grinder and polisher, also with a powerful 1200w motor and takes anything up to 125mm

No. Buy a proper buffer if you want an electric one. These are entirely unsuitable for car paintwork.

Will this take 9" and 4" discs or is it just for 9"???

you wouldn't want to put a 4.5" disc in it. It's far to heavy for small work. At £13 for the smaller one grab one of those aswell.

Hi,
I need to remove bathroom wall tiles. Will this do?
lilbeastie to dreamer181
1 Sep 161#28
no - you want a hammer and chisel
reg66 to dreamer181
1 Sep 16#29
I'm definitely no expert on the subject but reckon you'd need an sds drill with hammer only motion (3 settings - drill/hammer + drill/hammer) and get a sds chisel bit around 75mm wide. chisel the tiles off. you could, if you have one, use a multitool with grout removal bit in it to cut out some grout to get you started with the sds hammer. Lidl had some pretty powerful sds drills last week for £40 but they might be a bit heavy depends how much is tiled. if you did want to cut the grout out with an angle grinder then this one is overkill, get the Stanley one for same price. probably have dust everywhere that way though. or just use a hammer and bolster if you don't mind a bit of graft!
here's an sds with hammer only from homebase for £29.53 3.8kg, not too bad for continuous work click here NOTE if you get this drill it's an SDS plus, different fitting to SDS. so just make sure you get an SDS plus bit for it

Nice spot - I got one of the three available at Bristol Longwell green yesterday.
Any reason why people are opting for the silverline discs on amazon over this: toolstation blade
Looks identical, but 1/3 less the cost?

On the comments about blades, I've looked and looked over again for a blade that's good enough to cut the council street grade slabs (harder than the b&q tat they sell for like £1 a square foot) and found that this one cuts it like a hot knife through butter. I've got the 115mm for the smaller grinder which is like £4 and now going to go for the 230mm version as I know it works a treat.
Just a thought for anyone who finds a long track to get to a homebase that has stock.. Here's a thought, if I remember rightly Argos and homebase are both part of the same umbrella company. So if homebase sells it for cheaper then surely Argos could price match it ?
Please update if I'm wrong or if anyone's tried this

Got one yesterday - seems a decent enough piece of kit.
only hic is when I read the instructions (well I sometimes do that -sad!)
the guard that comes with it is only for a cutting blade - you are supposed to buy a special guard for grinding!
Not quite sure as the guard supplied seems wide enough for a grinding disk & it seem a bit stupid selling an 'Angle Grinder' with a missing part!

picked up one from altrincham store (ordered online). Drove about 20 mile , only to be told they didn't have it. showed them confirmation email & eventually they did find one ( apparently very common for people to order online , then go to collect & find shop has no stock). I'm glad I went to the shop instead of ringing them to check I could collect. Now to find some metal cutting disks (cheapest so far is 10 for just under £15 on famous auction site ) not checked for grinding disks.
