My returned 43's have just appeared on the site! Worth a go if you are regular shoe size 8.

My local Aldi has reduced theirs from £19.99 to £14.99. Can these really be that much better?

Depends how stiff the sole unit is, the ones I've seen in lidl/aldi have looked more like a hiking shoe with spd clips, and so will weigth more and have a flexible sole, the giro have the ratchet system fastener to keep the foot steady, simple straps don't work as well, as with all things in life if you enjoy an activity spend money on it, if you asked the difference between these and a £200 pair then maybe the weight advantage and carbon sole may make little difference to the amateur .. I will happily pay for branded sports/activity wear (upto a limit) as these companies are setup to create the best and test spend money on R&D. Etc
a chinese g0ret3x maybe cheap but if I got lost in fog on moorland I'd prefer to have on a UK branded/designed mountaineering jacket made of goretex.

Is it worth spending £25 more on a pair of shoes that have lasted 4 years of daily commuting?
The £25 difference being around the same as 4 days of commuting on public transport.
Yeah, I'd say it's worth buying a decent pair of shoes.
It's not like we're comparing Aldi to a pair of £300 Rapha shoes made from the finest yak leather, hand crafted by virgins and blah blah etc.
At £40 then the Giro shoes are pretty much on a par with the cheapest of any known brand shoe.

Aldi MTB shoes were quite good until about 5 years ago when the quality went right down. The last pair I bought cracked and split completely in half across the sole after a few weeks. Got a refund. I always inspect them when they are on specials in the hope they are decent again but the quality is just not there any more I'm afraid. Shame.

I've had two pairs of the Lidl bike shoes. Nice shoes for walking but the SPD cleats were hard to keep tight. They loosened and moved, so the shoes were hard to unclip, which is exciting/dangerous. Eventually stripped the threads in the sole clips and bought other shoes.
Buy cheap, buy twice as they say ...

Says there are 5 left today still.
I might re-buy them at £35 and return the ones I already bought for £40. Still waiting for them to arrive and Wiggle refuse to owner the new price.

There will also be a pair of 43's soon. They were sadly just too small for me and will be returned. Size-wise they are similar to Shimano - you need 1 size bigger than normal shoes.

I have owned these shoes for about 6 month and they are brilliant. The comfort is brilliant and if I wouldn't look like a pillock i would wear these out and about they are that comfy. Do not compare these to aldi special buys or even sports direct shoes. Cycling shoes play a big part in your ride and you want a sole that will not bend no matter how much force you put into it. If you got to aldi or sports direct pick up a cycling shoe and you will be able to bend the sole. Also the ratchet is a huge plus and was the selling point for me because they are like a fine adjustment and makes them that extra comfy. I paid £80 for mine brand new from my local cycle shop and i would happily pay that again. Have some heat from me and i would recommend these to any keen cyclist

Sorry I meant £99 rrp for this particular shoe seems high

£99 isn't high at all if you're after decent bike shoes. You can pay more than £200, if you really want to, but I've no doubt that with a make like Giro that the £99 is genuine. I've been using Giro shoes for years and they are top notch.

That's my size also - 44 in Shimano, but I've ordered these in 43 and am hoping they will be OK.

£40 is definately a good price, (£99 rrp seems high) its rare to find ratchet straps on shoes under £50-60, i like my shimano m088 (very similiar) bagged a new pair for £30 on ebay a few weeks ago, would have snapped these giro up otherwise. northwave do some good shoes too [scorpius range, but all the £40 deals have dried up].

Good if it's true. I don't mind spending more for genuinely better goods but too many people buy things by brand name and often pay through the nose as a result. "You get what you pay for" is one of the most overused phrases and is frequently wrong.
