whats really fun is the number of people spending more time and effort figuring out how to scam this deal than would be spent actually painting the walls as per the T&C's :innocent:

It can be used anywhere which accepts mastercard. I have used all my balance now between food shopping and fuel and had no issues at all in using the card, the people at the till (morrisons and asda) did not bat an eyelid and just asked me to sign the slip. Tip : To ensure I used all of the amount on the card, I used the final bit of the balance on fuel as you can fill up to the exact amount left. You could also part pay I am sure but I thought this was potentially less hassle

I got £51 card today for 3 tins (one white, 2 colour). I used half of the white and a whole colour tin.

Also bought with a cashback card and used a nectar card from homebase so as well as the free paint I done very well out of this.

I was pleasantly surprised to get my card today but I suspected hoop jumping to activate it and boy was I right!

Even if/when it gets activated Dulux have gone for the cheaper non chip and pin variety that cashiers are clueless about and which requires a signature if they do know how to work them.

No doubt all of this is for our "convenience" - yeah right!

Re paint quality, there are fewer chemicals allowed in paint these days for environmental reasons and I think it can affect performance. White gloss rarely stays white for starters!

Just got another confirmation email- this time letting me know my refund voucher had been sent out and to expect it within 5 working days

Neeeed that refund! Am so relieved this all worked out as there is simply no way I'd ever be able to afford to coat my walls in top of the range Dulux (maybe a cheaper Dulux but not the most expensive one from the shelves!) so I did this totally on trust and have since been holding my breath worrying my claim would be cancelled due to some sort of small print- so relieved Dulux have kept their word and I have walls in apparently a very durable paint (though if it lives up to it's word, time will tell...)

I am still waiting for my Mastercard, nothing yet

Noticed this post, if you have been painting for 30years, then like me we now realise they don't make them like they use to, specifically the emulsions now are low emissions water based paints with no/little lipids, unless it says washable like endurance range, they do seem to come off the wall, the Once paint is often a culprit because it dries fast and starts flaking. They really don't make them like they use to, its the same for creosolte, undercoat, varnish....
Loopylin
20 Sep 16 #375
O
That doesn't make sense. Obviously I have used the correct paint, because this hasn't occurred before. (Other than doing a cheapo job). As for the colour, well isn't it nice to have a change now and then, why is changing my mind about the colour relevant?
howdiefellas
20 Sep 16 #374
I would suggest if you've been decorating for yourself for the past 30 years, that you've been using the wrong paint or make up your mind about the colour.

The once emulsion paint which you used, is not washable.

19 Sep 16 #371
Nope, definately says Once on the tin. Looked on the tin and nowhere does it say endurance. Never had any paint that would wipe off like that. Didn't expect Dulux to give such poor performance.

18 Sep 16 #369
I bought the Once emulsion, did the challenge, received validation etc. Then a Week later my granddaughter stayed overnight. Whilst having breakfast the next day, she wiped some food onto the wall that was just painted. I wiped it gently but the paint just wiped off. Not down to the base, but there was plenty of paint on the cloth, nonetheless. Has anyone else had this problem?

I was relieved when my claim was validated but then realised we have to wait for the cards to come (nothing here yet).

The BT promotion Mastercard took weeks to come and when it did it had to be validated with a 6 digit passcode that was meant to be sent to your email address (but never was). You could request for the code to be resent (but it never came). Then ask for it again via post (again nothing) forcing you to ring a call centre and jump through hoops simply to get the card activated.

And once the card was "activated" you then had to register the damn thing, giving all your details just so you could use a temporary payment card by getting a PIN for it.

A serious amount of jumping through hoops when BT could simply have applied the cashback amount to your BT bill.

Sadly, I think the Dulux cards won't come that fast either.

Did you use all the paint? it does say in the T&Cs that they will only reimburse for the amount of paint needed so if your picture doesn't show a very large room and you're claiming for 6 tins of paints, its probably reasonable to ask for proof that you used it all before reimbursing.

I think all claims for 2 or 3 tins have automatically been approved, it's just the larger claims that they are being careful with before paying out, in case of abuse.

Tested my theory and - yes - look at a claim number twice on the tracker and it says claim not found

You have to clear cookies/history and the open the tracker link again.

Then you have another "single" chance to look at a claim number.
bemad
3 Sep 16 #351
Yes, the tracker is a mess! I also got the "Claim not found" and I had to clear my entire browsing history and then start again to get the real result.

It's as though if you try to look at a claim twice, it shuts you off.

Will be happy when the claim is finally validated. Happier when I get the mastercard and happier still when it is spent.

no, was definitely the right number (tried both anyway to make sure)

Got through on the phone in the end, apparently they have a long backlog of claims (maybe they weren't expecting as many claims?)
They sent a confirmation shortly after I called and gave all my details and claim, said it was currently being looked at so maybe it was not available rather than gone?
Can't understand why it was not there other than it being in limbo whilst being viewed but should be ok now- I hope!

That's just it - the guidelines weren't as clear as they could have been. Plenty of "the promoter's decision is final" threats but not enough guidelines on what exactly constituted a room and what exactly you could claim for.

The list is for emulsion paint only - absolutely - which specifies walls and ceilings but a rep on Facebook said ceilings weren't included. They then said they were. In reality they never specified ceilings were or weren't in the Terms and Conditions.

Similarly a rep said skirting boards weren't included. In this respect the rep was right because of the list excluding gloss paint. But given that you could include 2.5 litre tins of "Once" in Brilliant White on the drop down list, it would have been possible to buy a tin of this in gloss rather than matt to include in the claim. The terms and conditions didn't mention skirting boards but they are part of a room and so a claimant could "suppose" they were included.

Strictly speaking, the claim "could" have been turned down (at least for the gloss part) and some people who have claimed for gloss might still be turned down. Indeed those terms and conditions still give Dulux a lot of power!
faddy54
2 Sep 16 #338
The qualifying products list seems clear that only emulsion is included, but if they've accepted it well done you!

2 Sep 16 #336
Yes I would never have thought of claiming Once Gloss but OperateOnMe is right - their descriptions of what constituted a "room" and what could be painted in the said room weren't clear at all. Once gloss comes in 2.5L cans (the defining can size) and when people paint a room they often do the skirting boards as well so entirely logical to claim for it even if Dulux never intended it. Just wish I'd gone for a tin of it myself
OperateOnMe
2 Sep 16 1 #335
As I remember the drop down boxes state Dulux Once and does not specify matt, satinwood, gloss etc. So I clicked on Dulux Once, type Pure Brilliant White and quantity 1. It confirmed it, maybe I made a mistake but the store said it was included, the online information hinted so, and I saw I could claim, so I did.

2 Sep 16 #330
Hmmm... I'm wondering if it's possible to add to my submitted pictures- my friend has just shown me hers and I can see how badly mine show any new paint- in fact I'm pretty sure now I'll get turned down because it's not so easy to see the difference (also doesn't help that the first set of pictures were taken in daylight and the second at dusk/evening).

Also, I was just wondering. I used the Endurance paint and it's matt (because that was what was available). I'd really like to put a coat of gloss over because I'm worried about dirt not cleaning off easily. Has anyone else felt the need to do this with this paint or am I being OTT? (This is my first matt paint- I'm used to using gloss)

I submitted the final pictures on Sunday, not had an email yet. originally number 18xx and final number was 27xx
My friend who I introduced to this and who left everything to the last minute and who changed her mind on colour halfway through (being refunded and repurchasing and not even submitting the actual colour she ended up with) she finished and submitted on wednesday afternoon and got a confirmation today.

I'm still waiting.

I'm slightly worried they're going to decline because my paint job was so bad! I wish I'd bought another pot as it isn't a plain finish, but it was done in well enough time and I really put myself out doing this as I wasn't well but there was absolutely no way I would have made myself do this otherwise(excuses excuses) and I'd have used value paint, it was nice to change from that for once.

I'm wondering if I should have submitted a picture of the two scraped empty paint pots with my room pictures...

Could have really done myself some good just getting some sleep but am pleased I painted the room, even if I still need to go over it again! Just worried I wont get the refund :/

When you say your friend got confirmation today, do you mean her claim was actually VALIDATED (to be paid) or did she just get confirmation her claim had been received?

Have you paid in advance? If you submit a receipt/proof and 'before' photos within the 48 hour limit you will still have 48 hours to paint, so long as it's not delayed too long!

edit: A workaround could be to buy now from somewhere else with stock then return the Wickes tins to that place when they arrive, although that's not strictly legit of course.

The promotion was badly worded, I'm not surprised that only a few thousand have attempted it. The rules are actually quite generous, just the way they are explained is terrible. For example you can upload multiple pictures because obviously it's very hard to get 3 walls into one photo, but the registration site implies that you can only upload one. Even their example picture has only one wall in it!

Anyway I submitted my registration, my number is in the 5900s.

Yeah, I was sad enough to go through it all, and its the picture that has to show at least three walls not, you have to paint three walls or anything like that (most rooms have at least four walls). Three walls does include the ceiling as their example picture showed. It seems people got mixed up and then the reps too. We will find out within a month how this goes... feedback on threads like this are helpful

Bear in mind the early applications might be either tests by the staff, chancers uploading receipts from before the promotion or wrong products they had just purchased etc. Lots of reasons.

The T&Cs can't trump consumer law though - they might reject a claim but you would be free to pursue them via. Trading Standards, ASA, the courts etc. if you feel you complied with the promotion.

Fair enough, I should have tried consecutively rather than random, especially as they would have only processed so many so far. That is a quite a scary read. Didn't someone say the claim form was not working correctly initially though? or was that the registration one? If it was the claim one then that could be a reason for the rejections if it still allowed you to submit.

I did not go through all the comments on facebook at the weekend but the ones I did were referring to the qualification part i.e. ceilings is not considered 1 of the 3 walls needed to qualify for the cashback, not that it could not be claimed back. So as long as you painted a minimum of 3 walls to qualify, anything else in the room was claimable as long as it was one of the products allowed.

I have claimed for ceiling paint but did not think of the gloss once! and will see if it gets accepted. You are right on the wiggle room though...
bemad
30 Aug 16 1 #276
Err, I WAS reading the Facebook page. The rep's post that said ceilings weren't included. And there's another about skirting boards not being included either. Given the absence of what actually constitutes a room in the terms and conditions, we could only go on the clarifications being given by the Dulux reps.

But anyway I am glad that your claim for the ceiling has been accepted. I would never have thought about doing Dulux Gloss Once for the skirting boards but as your claim has gone through, that's all that matters.

I still think the Ts and Cs are dreadful and give Dulux a lot of wriggle room - "the promoter's decision is final" kind of thing. Would like to know why some claims are being rejected.

Just tried about 50 random numbers below 1000 and only found 2 rejected, guess you are doing a lot more checks so your sample size is bigger to see the rejects, majority for me was still pending with some successful or incomplete. It would not surprise me if people did not follow the terms or abused the offer, hence rejections though....

If I remember correctly, you had to put in the total number of tins and then you could keep adding tins (colours) in lower amounts until you got to the overall total. Once the total was reached you could not add any more, are you trying to do them separately for totals?

Just completed my claim, if the numbers theory if correct they are currently nearly up to 3000 claims (I was initially given a number under 2000 when I first registered). A friend of mine decided to sign up earlier today and it seems they are up to 5000 registrations already. Maybe everyone waited until the Monday to do this though weather or not they will all complete in time is anyone's guess.

I have a small room of around 4x3m and only three walls (the other was not painted/a feature wall) and definitely needed two pots and two coats- in fact I wish I'd gotten three pots (and had the time for three coats). Decent paint (I went for the Endurance) but needs layers unless you are just using it to cover last months coat of the same colour.
bemad
30 Aug 16 #263
Personally I think that as long as your paint claim isn't excessive, a claim will go through whether you painted the ceiling or not.

I think a claim might come unstuck if you are claiming for 10 tins and using the ceiling as justification for it.

But as nobody has had a larger claim "assessed" yet it's all conjecture.

I'm worn out after all that painting and should be in bed

I am going by the Dulux Facebook page where various people have asked questions such as Caroline asking if it included ceilings:

Dulux UK answered:
Ceilings aren't counted I'm afraid Caroline - a minimum of 3 walls only.

Like you say the Terms and Conditions didn't specify that it didn't include ceilings. But equally it didn't specify that it did.

And I meant that if you are doing a feature wall with wallpaper or with exposed brickwork in a chimney (very popular) don't even show this as it means you HAVEN'T used paint for this part!

I said the terms are dreadful because I just find that they are totally weighted in their favour. For example:

The promoter reserves the right to withdraw, amend or terminate the promotion without notice.
The promoter reserves the right to change Qualifying Products during the promotional period. Claims will be deemed invalid if you return your product.
The promoter reserves the right to closely monitor usage of the promotional website, including users’ IP addresses, so that we may identify misuse, and disqualify applications
The promoter is not responsible or liable for any technical, hardware, software, server, website, or other failures or damage of any kind to the extent that this prevents the participant from or otherwise obstructs him/her in participating in the promotion.
Only one registration and corresponding claim will be accepted per household during the Promotional Period. Claims will only be validated for the volume of paint used in relation to the size of the room.
If a claim is refused because the terms of the offer have not been met, The promoter's decision is final.

That's why I was offering advice to do as normal a claim as possible with a matching photograph showing 3 walls which sticks to a plain interpretation of the terms and conditions and doesn't try to be interpret them to include ceilings and skirting boards because they are "part of a room".

This is another Facebook entry:

This promo is for 1 room only.
Each claim is looked at thoroughly and a decision is made based on your photos, size of the room and the coverage rate of each product. I'd strongly advise not to purchase excessive amounts of paint as your claim could be refused completely

I am guessing there will be people who have bought 10 tins and who have decided it includes the ceilings (despite it not being specified) and who are at risk of having a claim curtailed or disqualified for claiming too much. My advice was just to be aware that these claims are going to be assessed because Dulux will be aware of the generous refund policies that DIY stores have on unopened tins of paint.

Personally I did a large room with 4 tins of paint and even applying two coats REALLY generously, I found I could have done the ceiling as well if I had wanted! Thankfully for the sake of my arms I didn't want to

I submitted my claim, my bathroom was white before and it is still white now, so actually looks the same pretty much, but I've got some new furniture etc. I painted it using the proper bathroom paint as the normal white emulsion keeps wiping off everytime I wipe the walls (I couldn't justify the cost of the bathroom paint previously). Hopefully this stuff is better. It did take 3 thick coats though. I don't know if this is because it is a soft sheen and the existing stuff was matt.

Nothing of what you say appears in either the FAQs or the T&Cs.

The refund is for painting rooms, not walls, so ceilings count.

There is no exclusion on feature walls, and such an exclusion would be damned odd given how much they are featured on their website.

Take a look at Step 4 here. VERY easy for the operator at Dulux to think it was a Dulux giftcard:

https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/articles/dulux-paint-cashback-challenge

In fact they have run promotions in the past - for example if you hate the colour - where you do get a Dulux giftcard back for the full price.

Not difficult for people to be given misinformation by representatives of a company, who themselves are very often blameless as promotions are released before they get their training on them.

The difference here is that the product being given away is made by Dulux and - this might not surprise anybody - paint costs very little to produce. So Dulux are handing back the money you've given them for a product that has cost peanuts to make.

The Hoover promotion had disaster written all over it. 2 free flights to AMERICA at a time (1992) when flights there weren't cheap. And you could get them with a £119.99p Hoover! I distinctly remember that was the price I paid for mine!

Hoover then had to purchase the flights on behalf of the customers claiming them - and boy did they claim. In the end, I didn't bother so it could have been even worse for them!

Looks like less than 5,000 people doing this. I would have guessed at 250,000 given the publicity but obviously it's just not attractive enough.

I am still only 2/3rds there with the paint and it is SCORCHING outside. I wish I had never heard of it :smiley::smiley:

All of this could have been avoided if Dulux just did a straight refund via BACS.

bemad
29 Aug 16 #233
Yes I think they will "restrict" the payout if they believe an excessive amount has been bought. Especially when they know unused tins of paint can be returned to the retailers for a full refund.

There will be some who could use 10 tins in one room (and let's not forget it is "one room") but the square footage for that really is VAST, even with two coats. We are talking room proportions that are way beyond what most people in the UK live in. And the people who live in those kind of properties don't really need to rush a paint job to rake in a few bob!

And Dulux don't want to be paying out for 10 tins of paint when the claimant could easily be returning most of them for a full refund so I think they will be running the slide rule over claims.

I have found the endurance is needing two coats. Don't get me wrong - it's nice quality - but one coat isn't doing it. I wouldn't have liked to have done it with just the 2 tins minimum but can justify claiming for 4.

The offer is for walls only - you have to show 3 walls in the photo - and so a ceiling won't be classed as a wall.

I wouldn't give them anything that might allow them to disqualify your claim (the terms and conditions are dreadful) and so STICK to the walls as per the instructions.

Now if you do have some paint **LEFT** and are doing the ceiling in the same colour - fine - but don't start making a claim for it. Don't even mention it at all. Just show the three walls.

If you are doing a feature wall with wallpaper or different paint, stand with your back to it and take the picture of the other 3 walls

Stick to the terms and conditions and you won't go far wrong.

And on the subject of how many tins to claim, Dulux's own advice is for TWO COATS for the Endurance range. It's not "over-claiming" to buy tins based on this advice. But equally, don't buy 10 tins because you can. It is for ONE ROOM only and seriously only rooms in "a footballer's mansion" would need the full 10 tins. Dulux will know this.

It's a good offer and - despite the claim process having problems - is well worth doing. Right - back to painting!

So could I buy some tins tomorrow, register it Tuesday with before pictures and then upload completed pictures within 48hours e.g. Thursday?
bemad to beckles88
29 Aug 16 #204
Yes the last day for BUYING the paint is Monday.
You then have to REGISTER within 48 hours of your purchase time (so could be Wednesday).
You then have to COMPLETE the painting within 48 hours of the registration time (so could be Friday).

I admit that seems generous for a "weekend challenge" but the above was even confirmed on their Facebook page.

So the weekend refers to actually BUYING the paint (within the weekend) rather than rushing to get it all painted!

I asked them what measurement they required. I was told floor space rather than total wall area. I guess they will work it out from there. Of course a 12 square metre room could have different wall areas so that'swhen it becomes interesting as to what paint usage they allow.

28 Aug 16 #199
You can upload more than one receipt. Look for the box once you have uploaded the photo.

The application guides you to upload the receipt first and then the photo but once the photo is uploaded there is the chance for a third upload (or more).

This was just as well as I bought online and the instructions say you have to upload both the order confirmation and the delivery note.

So people who buy their paint from two stockists should be able to load more than one receipt after the photo has been uploaded.
Just look for the box towards the bottom of the page.
howdiefellas
28 Aug 16 #198
that's because it has to be one purchase, and you're only allowed to paint one room. Unless you start painting your friends and families rooms.

I had a total of 6 hours to prep and paint. I've been working 12 hour days this weekend. It needs another coat. The wife wants it this colour.

I've submitted having had problems with the website. I notice you get pure brilliant white on the website if you type Pure Brilliant in rather than white.

I might have made a mistake, is asked for the room size which I stated was 30m2 rather than the area to be painted which is 114m2. I have emailed them abot this and that I put two coats on the ceiling and most walls, some walls with a darker colour needed three coats. Hopefully it will be okay.

Submitted claim for 6 tins of paint including Pure Brilliant White Once gloss/undercoat (a.k.a. eggshell without stating it is eggshell)

Dulux's own advice is TWO COATS of paint for the endurance range (the one I went for).

https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/products/endurance-matt

I have bought 4 tins (for my size of room) and it even states the same advice on the back of the tins - use 2 coats!

The terms and conditions certainly say a maximum of 10 tins.

I suppose they could try and curtail usage for "Once" because it states use one coat but as the promotion is for a minimum of 2 tins, they shouldn't quibble if someone actually goes over "Once" more than once.

https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/products/once-matt

I've always found these "Once" paints need more than one coat regardless

This is the same for everyone the website is just broken on all types of internet browsers.

The T&Cs say this

"11.The promoter is not responsible or liable for any technical, hardware, software, server, website, or other failures or damage of any kind to the extent that this prevents the participant from or otherwise obstructs him/her in participating in the promotion. "

I'm hoping they fix it pretty soon as I want to start painting. I trust Dulux to fix it as they have a huge reputation. If they don't fix it then there is not much we can do about it though. Just don't open the paint and head for a refund if you can.

Anyway.........I have gone for this offer. I have a large room but to do this in the minimum of 2 tins would mean being economical so I have ordered 4 tins. I intend to do two coats in line with Dulux's own advice.

Now this raises an interesting point. If Dulux are going to limit rebates based on square footage, are they saying one coat is enough or are they allowing two?

The irony is I bought them from B and Q who were selling the tins at £24.95 each or two for £35.00. 3 tins would have cost me £59.95 whereas 4 cost me £70.

I don't think £70 is an excessive amount to spend painting one room.

Would be interested to hear how many tins people are going for.

26 Aug 16 #145
Issuing banks do indeed pay commissions for prepaid cards. They are lucrative and Dulux will probably be getting a fixed fee for each card that is issued, paid to them by the bank who is issuing them. They might even get a % value but either way it will be a substantial sum because of the potential numbers involved.

Now Dulux could easily have opted to pay the refunds by bank transfer - both simple and effective. Done plenty of promotions where this has occurred. But recently there is a trend towards prepaid cards as a method of payment. There's clearly a reason for that and it isn't "convenience for customer" - however much they try to dress it up as such.

As I say, this promotion could easily attract several hundred thousand claimants. I personally don't blame Dulux for wanting a kickback!

(1) b&q was already running out of white at 9am this morning

(2) If the website doesn't work when you enter 'white' as a colour you don't get an error but it doesn't let you continue.
You need to enter the exact type of paint, e.g. 'pure brilliant white'

(3) You must scan the receipt

(4) The original picture must show 3 walls and not be bigger than 2Mb, if your camera makes files bigger than this you can use paint.net on a pc to make it smaller
Gareth79 to Shard
26 Aug 16 #135
The FAQs mention that you can upload multiple photos though, ie. you don't need to work out how to get 3 walls into one shot!

It seems a decent offer, it has prompted me to get into action this weekend and paint my kitchen, which has looked terrible for several years now! I just need to scramble to fix up a few things beforehand!

I'm hoping they will be fairly relaxed about the number of tins used, ie. if the website says 3.1L needed I'd like to buy 3 tins just in case.
chantelle310

That seems a little more reasonable for me

So effective in could have more than 48 hours to do the painting. Just take the picture Saturday morning go collect the paint. Start painting that afternoon. Then by monday upload the first picture. Take a second once I'm done with the painting and have that uploaded by Wednesday.

Just didn't want to try and cram it all Into one weekend as theirs a fair few things to be moved around etc

Am I right in thinking you actually have TWO upto 48 hour periods.

One between BUYING and REGISTERING.

So that could mean buying Saturday, registering within 48 hours on Monday and completing the claim within 48 hours of that on Wednesday.

I think this promotion is more than fair..Also if you can't see the need to limit the time validity on the cards then you've never worked in accounting/business.

Assuming your BT cashback was £150, it's not exactly hard to spend that within 1 year is it..

I agree the Mastercard will be accepted everywhere but it's not the most efficient way of refunding us. It's more a nice little earner for Dulux who will probably get a fee for each one that is issued.

The BT promo I took part in was full of time limits. You had to wait a certain period before you could make a claim for the card. You then had to wait for it to come in the post. It was 3 months after my broadband was installed that I finally got it. You had to register the card online within 90 days otherwise the card would expire. Once registered the card was still set to expire 12 months after issue. WHY? Because they WANT it to expire!

The companies involved dress this up that these time limits are "fair and reasonable" but that's total crud. The whole system is skewed towards members of the public letting them lapse and then the money belongs to them and not you.

Yeh, it's basically a debit card. All these people talking rubbish about them clearly haven't used them before. You get a letter sent out with your card and how to activate - you call a robot and enter a code. Done. You get a pin number spoken over the phone and if you want to change it just go to an ATM and change like you would normally. I know they have time frames but i think it only applies if you haven't used the card in over 12 months. I got one last year and within a week of getting it i spent it. You don't show it to shop assistants and as long as they accept mastercard you CAN use it. It's a load of rubbish people saying they're difficult as they are not. You just use that for a couple of days until the money runs out, simple. Had no fuss buying xmas pressies with mine last year

Upon validation of your claim, your reward will be paid via a Pre-paid MasterCard®. The card will be sent to your nominated postal address as entered on your claim form submission including instructions on how to activate and use your card. the reward card will be like a pre-paid card with chip and pin a bit like a travel card you upload money to but with out the fees,so you cannot go over.i would reckon the reward pre paid mastercard will be from incentive award card by edenred, who would be one of the main ones for sky and telecoms companies etc.

So do you have the spend the prepaid mastercard they give to back on more Dulux paint or can you use the credit for anything? Conflicting replies in this thread.

I can just see this is all going to end in tears. Too many factors in which this deal could go very wrong. Dulux customer service line is going to be rammed tomorrow!

You can use the prepaid Mastercard for anything. I got one with BT - hence my knowledge about them. I don't know why people think it would be Dulux only.

Yes, lots of pitfalls in this deal. BT were the same with theirs. Totally designed to prevent you claiming and when you finally get the darn thing (MONTHS LATER) you have to go through a registration process to use it!
bemad
26 Aug 16 #108
The prepaid mastercards are chip and pin so you can use them everywhere that shows a mastercard sign however Fergemeister is right - they can look a bit "naff" with the name of an unknown provider on them. Also the quality of the plastic is different and the numbers aren't embossed but printed.

I think maybe the cashiers do have to press a different button for prepaid cards - remember the balance is being removed immediately from the card itself.

It's a cumbersome way of reimbursing customers and I can only think that the prepaid card provider is offering a nice little earner to Dulux for doing it this way!

Despite all this I am SO tempted to do this over the weekend!

Apologies if I've got this wrong, but isn't the card accepted by Chip & PIN terminals like normal credit/debit cards?

If so, how would till staff get the chance to raise any objections? They don't even handle or look at the card since the advent of Chip & PIN. All they care about is whether the payment gets authorised.

In theory, it would work but you have to factor in a lot of risks.

1) Processing valid claims will take up to 7 working days plus 28 working days for the card to arrive after Dulux have decided on whether accepting or rejecting your claim. Most retailers refund policy is 30 days so you would be cutting it pretty tight.
2) The T&Cs on the Dulux Challenge site suggest they can reject your claim for any reason without an explanation. They actually put this down twice for some strange reason (points 8 & 12).
1) The price and stock availability of those paints remain the same when using the pre-pay card (guess paying a little of more money in case the prices go up won't matter).

Still, if you're going to paint, it's probably worth the hassle but there are a few things that can trip you up.

So pay with debit/credit card and get a refund onto your debit/credit card

my point was you don't need to end up stuck with a prepaid credit card that might expire or you might forget what balance is on it

On Dulux's facebook, they are saying hallway landing & stairs qualifies - as long as it is 3 walls. They are also saying you can buy the colour mixing paint, as long as it is the qualifying type, e.g bathroom+.

For those of you asking about painting over the same colour, they just said this on fb: "I'd recommend taking a picture of the empty can and uploading it to the website to make sure you don't miss out".
bemad
25 Aug 16 1 #66
Call me cynical but the Mastercard reimbursement is itself a "ploy" to trip you up.

Firstly you will have to claim it (strict time limits) and then wait for it to come. When it does come you will need to register it (strict time limits) because if you don't register it, it expires. Even when it is registered, the amount on it will still expire after 12 months if you don't use it. And because it isn't one of your normal cards, the hope will be that you just put it in your wallet and don't use it or - even worse - put it in a drawer and forget about it.

Time passes by......the card expires......much to the delight of the company providing them!

Hi. I am working on this promotion at the weekend. So far I've only been made aware that B&Q and Wickes are participating but there may very well be others.... The products included in this offer are the Dulux '+' range (Light+space, Once, Endurance+, Kitchen+, Bathroom+) and you must purchase 2 or more 2.5ltr tins to qualify (10 maximum). You need to register your purchase within 48 hours of buying the product and upload a picture of your undecorated room (before). You then have a further 48 hours in which to upload a picture of your newly painted room (after). Once verified (can take up to 7 days) you will receive a pre-paid Mastercard that you can use anywhere that accepts Mastercard. You have 12 months to use the amount you have been credited.

Seems really great to me! I just wish I had time to decorate over the next week!

I don't work directly for Dulux so I couldn't confirm 100% but I'm assuming they would be fine with that because they have a limit of 10 tins, that would surely paint more than one room in most people's houses. Just to be on the safe side, you could always complete two separate purchases and have a second person claim back the other tins? But I don't think that will be necessary.

According to their replies on the Dulux Facebook page, it's going to be most main retailers participating (inc. Homebase & B&Q). A full list is going on their website tomorrow.

Prepaid cards are basically like a debit card, you can use it at just about any shop to buy anything you want. There is a limit of what you can spend obviously, if it has £50 on, you cannot spend £51. You can either keep the receipts after buying something to see your balance or login on their website to see available balance. Be warned that the balance usually expires after so many months.
