Tbh I'm not that great with mobile offers, but my son is on Virgin & he received an email this morning with the details of a FLASH SALE on simo deals at Virgin Mobile.
Basically they've doubled the Data Allowance on their £8 & £10 30 Day rolling contracts, with the £8 it was 1GB now it's 2GB + 1000 mins & unlimited txts & with the £10 it was 2GB, now 4GB + 2500 minutes + 2500 minutes to 08 numbers + unlimited txts.

Just a heads up guys, I've just done this online and a had a Customer Service Rep confirm and can see its confirmed on my phone too. If you login into your MyVirginMedia account, choose your account/number and then select 'Extras' Tab on the bar at the top of the page. You'll then see a page which says 'Check deals for upgrade' click this. This page is titled 'My tariffs and devices' and then click on the 'Manage add-ons tab'. You should then have an add on which says 'double data'. Select this and you can choose the date from which it is effective, ASAP or when your allowances renew. I selected ASAP and on my Virgin Mobile Account the extra 2GB data shows as Promotional Mobile Web in addition to the 2GB Inclusive Mobile Web that I already have. Hope this helps guys!!

It's not just 3g it's really slow "3g" I've compared 3g on an ee sim and virgin sim before and the difference is staggering

And with VM it's not if it goes wrong it's when.
I had the unlimited minutes tariff and after a few hours of calls it cut me off and kept saying I had no credit, on a SIM only contract?

Customer services explained after 3 advisors and 50 minutes on the phone to them that it was that I had used all of my 'virtual credit', they reset it and explained every time it happens just call and ask for a virtual credit reset.

More hassle than it's worth.

I am currently on the £8 rolling sim deal and just contacted VM after waiting 20 mins they have now given me 2GB Data/2500 minutes and unlimited texts for £8 per month. They said it is actually £10 per month but I will get a £2 credit each month, so I am not paying anything more and I am an existing customer

Because the one that people are getting isn't available online for £10 for one thing - it's the £15 tariff, and i'm already under contract with them on unlimited everything as well so i'm having to try and downgrade that.

If I can't get it then I'm probably going to accept the offer of unlimited minutes & texts and 1gb of data for £12 quid.

I had 1gb of data before i took this contract out and coped just fine so it won't be a problem.

I only went for unlimited everything in the first place because i thought i could haggle the price down at the end of the two years but with their recent policy change on retentions and deals, it's going to be very unlikely.

I've never experienced this level of incompetence with Virgin's customer services before.
Over a period of 4 or 5 days, I've made numerous phone calls; been passed between various teams; have had people lie to me (stating they've changed my tariff but not actually done anything); promised phone calls back by at least 2 different people (didn't happen); and been told different stories by different agents from Retentions, Customer Services, billing and sales teams.
Absolutely shocking.

With Virgin's current penchant for removing discounts from accounts, I think it's better to go with one of the double data deals (valid until 2037!), rather than the 5gb one on the basis of discounts, as there is no guarantee that any discounts provided now would stay on for long.

The charge for your airtime tariff will increase with your July bill each year. Any increase will be in line with the retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation announced in the April before and we’ll always give you 30 days’ notice of the exact increase each year.

That's probably why i'm not getting that deal for £10 a month - i don't have virgin media services.

Did you say anything particular to get them to offer the deal or did they come right out with it ?

ugh .. another call bites the dust with no deal. they nearest they got was unlimited minutes & texts and 1gb of data for £12 a month which i'm tempted by, but ideally i'd rather have 5gb instead of one !

what's making it difficult is that i've got a two year handset loan with them as well which is directly linked to the airtime contract as well.

Has anyone got a Virgin Mobile sim running on a Motorola Moto G 4G (2nd Gen)?

Sim not recognised in daughters phone. Other SIMS (Tesco, Three, EE) all work fine. Also the new Virgin SIM works fine 2 other phones we have, just not the Moto G 4G (2nd Gen).

Whats more confusing is that the other daughters Virgin Mobile SIM (working on her Moto G 1st Gen) also doesn't work in the Moto G 4G (2nd Gen).

I've done factory restore, set to 3G only but nothing. SIM just isn't recognised.

I called Virgin up who are sending out a new SIM. She said she wasn't going to charge me for the replacement which is kind of her. But then went on to say there's a 99p delivery charge for the new sim. EXCUSE ME!!!! Your going to bill me to send out a SIM to replace the one that isn't working  Eventually she waived that fee.

Upgraded online to the £8 deal and then realised should have gone for the £10 instead. Called the 0800 052 0422 as above who could only cancel original order but was given a sales number (0800 183 1150). Called and asked for £10 deal. I am on a so-called Freestyle tariff. Phoned 789 & the 0800 number only to be told that the offer is specifically for NEW customers. Anyone got any evidence of this fact?
I assumed being Freestyle I would be able to move tariffs easily. How wrong I was!!
The only alternative for me is to pay over double for more calls/texts/data than I would ever need or use for over double what i am paying now!! I really think Virgin Mobile are loosing the plot!!!! What happened to rewarding loyalty & being at least a little flexible?
I shall be looking elsewhere for sure.
P.S I was my usual charming self (polite/friendly) on the phone, but they still wouldn't budge. I despair.

I just changed my £10 - 250 min/unlimited texts/1GB rolling 30 day SIMO over to the £8 deal
I couldn't do it in my account online, there was no option so I called up. I may or may not (couldn't say) have been put through to an overseas call centre the woman and I understood each other just fine.

I was told only for new customers, so I told her I was looking at a forum full of existing customers who have changed to this deal - we repeated ourselves again before she relented and gave me the deal. It will begin on my bundle refresh date.
Checked my account and it is reflected there that this double data deal will be effective from Sept 2016 until 1st Jan 2037

Thanks for posting OP

that's interesting - tempted to try for that myself. I'm actually on unlimited everything with them at the moment for £20 quid a month, but i'm not really using enough data to justify it.

i do, however, use a lot of minutes, so if i can't get unlimited the 5000 would probably do and would ultimately save me a tenner a month which is more what i'm looking for.

They hit me with that crap too, I started the formal complaint procedure as I am an existing VM customer and then they changed their mind and said the tarriff was not available for their loyal customers!

I had been on a £27/month 5Gb Tarrif with 6000 mins + 5000 txts dsicounted to £6.60 for years and they sent me a letter out the blue saying this was an old tarriff and the loyalty discount was being removed.

So happy chappy. Asked about 4G when on the line and they said that is coming later on in the year.

Great spot OP, thanks!

0800 052 0422 and was also able to switch to the £10 double data tariff during 15 minutes conversation witch India based center. Previously i log in to my acc but i didn't find option for this tariff. This lady said that this offer is not only for a new customer but also for old one - what is corresponding with online tariff changing possibility (by some users). I strongly believe this is a same story like usually. Call centers are full with sort of people. Some have knowledge, some have good willing (luckily both) - and some of them are "just a workers" (probably most). Good luck.

Just changed my £5 (soon to be £10) contract over the phone - no probs

1 Sep 16 #191
What a nightmare to change to this contract for existing customers. I tried doing it from logging into my account from website but there was nothing under the "extras" > "check deals for add-ons" > "manage add-ons" tab.

I rang up and got put through to some foreign sales person. The understanding wasn't the problem, but each person was giving conflicting and false information.

I spent full 2 hours on phone to get to this contract after being shuffled between Billing, Sales and Retention department.

The first advisor told me I had already paid for the following 30 days rolling contract so it would be a shame to cancel now and lose that money. This was false information as I was put through to billing who told me I haven't paid anything for the following 30 days and that even the money for the previous month hasn't been taken yet. I was also told that the £11 discount was terminating this month and my new bill would be £21.50 for everything unlimited (currently at £10.50 a rise from £7.50 few months back, which was a rise from £6 originally).

I then asked another advisor to cancel my contract since you cannot put me to the double data package. She told me I have to give 30 days notice to cancel unless I convert the SIM to Pay As You Go in which case my contract will terminate immediately and I can move to another tariff. I told her to change my sim to Pay As You Go then. I was then able to sign up to this double data contract through Sales department. Now I have 14 days cooling down period in which I can leave and terminate the contract without giving 30 days notice for cancellation.

All this messing around took me two hours. Stay away from Virgin Media. They are not what they used to be. The reason is because Richard Branson sold "Virgin Media" to John Malone's "Liberty Global". The Retention team told me the new management has a different way of doing business and they are very strict about it. I told them that I think their policy is to actually lose customers instead of keeping them cos everyone is moving away from Virgin Media.

i called them up told them my friend informed me about the offer and that i wanted the double data offer as well, got put to the sales team, all they told me was they needed to do a credit check?? ( no idea why since i been with VM mobile for 2 years now ) so now i'm on 30 day rolling contract, 1000 + 1000 minutes to 08 numbers, Unlimited Texts, 2GB Data for £8.

For people having issues in getting the deal cos its for new customers only just keep trying

I rang and was told this deal is for new customers only.
I rang back and got passed between a couple of teams until someone agreed to change some of my numbers. They wouldn't do them all due to some kind of limit to the number of monthly credit checks. Told me to call back in a month to action my other numbers.
I rang retentions and they passed me to sales who passed me back to retentions who passed me back to sales who confirmed the last sales person had lied and none of my numbers had been updated to the new package.
I then got cut off by retentions.

I am an existing customer and I was paying £15 for 4GB. After a lot of complaining and speaking to about 6 different people in 3 departments, they offered to upgrade me to the 4GB for £10 double data package. I just threatened to cancel persistently and told them how bad their customer service is for not valuing their long-term members. Hang in there and you can get it.

They did offer to send me out a new sim card (as an added account to my billing) with the desired tariff and then I could port my existing number over to that one - This seemed like a tedious way of doing it IMHO so I just demanded they switch my tariff directly.

I hope that helps some existing customers. I don't like when companies do offers like this to attract new customers and forget the customers that have been lining their pockets for years.

Virgin Megia owner Liberty have stopped the over subsidy that used to get big discounted mobile plans subsidised by higher VM core products broadband/tv/line rental.

Core product costs are falling so the Virgin Mobile MVNO has to start breaking even as a minimum instead of high prices subsidising VMobile.

For customers it really is a win win IF you have core services, for mobile only well you will now be treated like the lepar you are lol

Just changed my plan to this deal, despite being an existing customer on a very crap old tariff (i was paying 12£ for 1GB).
TO get it, I just phoned up the call centre on the "leaving us" service, told them I was considering leaving cause it was the only way to get a better deal  the guy agreed with me that my deal was very old and poor, so he transferred me to another department (loyalty one, I think) and his colleague put me on the 10£ for 4GB without a blink.

So, for me, hot <3 ...and also heads up for the good customer service: the whole operation took me less than 5 minutes!

Excuse the rant...

I originally had 250 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data for £10. Then it went up to £11.50 (but they kindly gave me 500 mins a month which I didn't ask for.) Then it went up again last month to £14.50 (£19.50 with £5 loyalty discount) and unlimited everything... which again I didn't ask for.

Decided to change to this new double data deal so I rang the 789 number and went through to billing dept, they said it was for new customers only but I could change it through the website. Tried the 'manage add ons' section and a few others but there was no option to change to double data on my account, only the normal offers or buy a new sim (much hassle).
Rang 789 again but chose the cancellations dept who then forwarded me to the sales team who eventually sorted out the £10 4gb deal after much persuasion.

I was also offered a second sim on the same deal for a family member.

So... 40 minutes later, job done. :man:

Virgin upped my bill from £5 to £8 a few months ago, and now again to £18..
That's good, as it lead me to find the Three £9 a month sim, which comes with £50 Amazon voucher and £25 referral voucher.. Effective cost will be < £3 a month, which is less than I was happy paying Virgin before they ended the loyalty discount!

Although the Three sim is 12 months and not monthly, if you're willing to commit for a year the £50 Amazon and £25 referral credit make it £5 a month cheaper than this deal....

My 30day SIMO unlimited everything (mins, txt, data, 08xx) recently increased to £10pm from £7pm, however my use of that VM arrangement is effectively "light" due to having access to other arrangements with other providers.
It would appear that you may not fall within VMs current preferred demographic. You have the option to take your business eleswhere if you are not happy. I shall be moving away from VM soon for that very reason; I have no ill-feeling: the deal was acceptable whilst it was available, now it is not acceptable at the amended terms. There are times that an extended contract can work in the favour of the customer. Obtaining an extended commitment to my earlier acceptable deal would have worked for me.

I started off with Virgin Mobile at £5/month for 1200 minuted + 1GB data 3 years ago. I posted the deal here:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/virgin-mobile-essential-sim-only-1200min-unlimited-text-1gb-data-5-00-month-down-1591048

After a year I moved to VIP Essential package with everything unlimited for £6/month. It was originally £17 but I was still getting £11 loyalty discount.

At the start of 2016 (8 months ago), there was a price increase and my bill went up to £7.50. And now couple months ago there was another price increase of £3 taking my bill to £10.50.

Naturally, I rang up to cancel my contract. The guy on phone told me that Virgin Mobile are scrapping all discounts and that the management is very strict on this issue. He told me soon everyone with special discounts will be forced to pay the full price or transfer to alternative tariff. He also told me that they stopped giving out unlimited data and anyone who is already on it will be forced to come off it by either being put on a tariff with the highest data allowance or by given a choice to change to an alternative tariff. He said virgin media can't cope with it economically.

I got a PAC code and was looking for alternative network providers. I am still on virgin mobile with everything unlimited for £10.50 though.

I am a low user for both minutes and data and so thinking of moving down anyway to the limited offer at £8 with 1000 mins and 2GB data.

... Or I'm still shopping around for better offer for 2GB data.

I was on unlimited everything for £15 a month, then in June they said they were putting the price up to £18 for unlimited everything, which I didn't mind.
2 weeks ago I received a letter saying unlimited data was no longer economical, they were therefore dropping me to 1gb of data for £18. For every day I go over the 1gb of data, I would be charged £2 per day.
My son is autistic and could eat through 1gb of data in 2 days, so if I were to be charged £2 per day for the 29 remaining days, it would end up costing me £76 per month.
I was furious so I rang up, they said they no longer do unlimited data and their biggest plan is now 20gb for £25, so I cancelled.
My question is are they still doing unlimited data and are just cutting me off because I used too much? I would be interested in knowing if any of you are able to get unlimited data?
Also how on earth do they think it's ok to drop me from unlimited data to 1gb and charge me the same price? I've been a loyal customer for 20 years, having their phone, TV, broadband and mobile, but not anymore. I'm jumping ship!!! :disappointed:
HankHandsome to Reality

I get unlimited everything, data included, for £20 a month but it's fixed in with a 2 year iPhone 6 contract i took out with them so i suspect that's probably why they've not done anything to it yet. They did recently announce a change in terms and conditions that seemed to be designed to get rid of heavy data users though - i tried to get out of the contract using those new T's & C's but they refused so I clearly don't go over the limit enough

So I suppose it would make sense in a way that they're altering your data plan if you're a heavy user. It's a bit of a ham-fisted way of doing it though,

As far as I'm aware, the only other company that do an unlimited data plan for the same £20 a month price is GiffGaff.

Calls to service numbers: The way you’re charged for calling numbers beginning 084, 087, 118 and 09 has changed. The cost of calling these numbers will be formed of a combined access and service charge: we set the access charge and the company you’re phoning set the service charge. Your access charge for these numbers will be shown on your bill and is currently 36p per minute for Pay As You Go and 45p per minute for Pay Monthly. The service charge will be advertised by the company that you are calling. If any of these numbers are included in your bundle you will not be charged the access or service charge.

Also can confirm that you can get this as an existing customer although you do have to be 'eligible' apparently. Was as easy as speaking to someone over the phone. Does anyone know when the 'promotion' ends? The member of staff I spoke to didn't know but confirmed that you go back to your pre-existing data allowance when it does end. (For example I'll go back down to 2GB a month from 4GB when the promotion ends; no price increase, no loss of minutes/texts and no loss of data. You basically return back to normal)

And if you're a Virgin Media customer, they have an app which lets you use wifi when abroad to dial numbers the same as if you were dialling from your home phone. So if you phone a landline or a VM mobile from abroad, using the app, it's totally free (assuming you dial a number that would be included in your free minutes on your landline); which is another little extra worth noting

Call them back and explain you have seen the offer on the website. I called and said I was looking for a SIM card to top up for data to take abroad, and by chance said I saw the offer on the website and that I would like it. I was transferred from an overseas call centre, to one in the uk, who processed the deal for me with no issues. All they did was a new credit check, and adjusted the tariff to the promo one.
If you do get told it is for new customers only, tell them there is no mention of this on the website. Good luck, but you should, and probably will, get the deal if you want it.

(By the way, all I did was call 789 from the phone itself that I wanted the changes to take effect on, and all was good)

Beware - Virgin are like Vodafone when it comes to data.

Go over your data, and you face automatic excess usage charges.

All other networks don't do this, they cap your data. Virgin and Vodafone (as well as Talk Mobile) seem to think it's OK for their customers to run up massive data bills.

I've had 2 sims with Virgin for many years, both on £5/month which was increased to £8/month a few months ago which I was happy to continue with. Now got a letter saying they're going up to £18/month each..

So glad they did, as that prompted me to check the other deals... I found Three will give me 2GB of 4G for £9 per month, total £108 over 12 months. But there is a £50 Amazon bonus on signup, and a further £25 as a friend referred me... So total Amazon credit received will be £75... Net it's £2.75 per month, cheaper than my original Virgin deal and I'll get 4G too!

Thanks OP for this, just upgraded two Virgin SIMO accounts to the new bigger data tariff

I've been a Virgin customer for years, but recently they've been very sneaky with their price rises.
I had a SIM only for £5pm, 100 mins, 1000 texts and Unlimited data, with no end date. A few months ago i received a letter saying they were increasing the price to £6.50, but also giving me unlimited data, texts and mins! Then last month they sent a letter saying they were increasing my tariff to £19.50?!?!
They've also done something similar to our TV package, saying we can have a second Tivo box for £1.26pm. Only it wouldn't allow me to order online even though it was an internet offer. So i phoned them and they said they'd only charge me the £1.26pm......but oh no, on my latest bill it's full price!!! Grrrrrrrr to VM!!!!

Was tempted but just read it's 3g only.
I can't remember the days before 4G..

thanks OP! I had called to cancel a couple of weeks ago when I got notification of my £10 discount being removed. I spent about 90 mins on the phone but they have cancelled my cancelation and given me the £10 4gb deal on my account without being disconnected. I was on the 30 day sim so options were to cancel and then call for a deal or get a new sim on the deal, cancel the old one, but lose the number unless I transferred the old to another non virgin sim then transferred from that sim to the new virgin sim. the customer service was atrocious. I just persisted and if someone said they couldn't do it (they didn't say they/we couldn't do it so I just asked who) I asked for the line manager. took note of names. they annoyed me again as they did the last time I called. I only wanted £10 for 3gb which they couldn't do when I cancelled after being unhappy about going from £6.50 to £16.50. I'm still paying a bit more than I used to and don't need the minutes but can't seem to find much of a better deal. for some reason ID mobile rejected my details today, as I was about to swap to them till I saw this deal

I need another sim on 2.10.2016 and so was thinking of getting the life mobile one, but for an extra pound (after tcb) i can get 08 calls and an extra 1/2 megabyte of data. Ummmm...tempted. This offer runs out 5 september stated on their website.

I just tried to ring to move over to 2GB for £8, first, they couldn't cancel my sim-only upgrade that is due in 2 weeks time, secondly they hit me with the same only for new customer non-sense! Their customer service went rapidly down hill.

when does that kick in from mate for you? mines from November. Ive got two sims going up to £18, but may get a cheaper deal for the OH as she doesn't use that much data anyway. I don't think she's gone over 2gb in each of the last 6 months.

If you sign up get clarity on the free 080 numbers, in the small print it says these could be charged out of plan charges or maybe in, its not clear to me.
"Calls to service numbers: The way you’re charged for calling numbers beginning 084, 087, 118 and 09 has changed. If any of these numbers are included in your bundle you will not be charged the access or service charge."
mutley1 to Ralph888
30 Aug 16 #28
Their 08 numbers inclusive minutes are very confusing as their paperwork mentions 0845/0870 only then on bills it states 0800/0845 only but on their website it states all 08 numbers.

Even their own sales staff wasn't sure which 08 numbers were included with their plan. However, i took out the £8 per month plan two weeks ago and can confirm that despite the confusing literature, the inclusive minutes do cover all 08 numbers as i called 0844 and 0871 and all were non chargeable.

Their call signal seem better than ee even though they piggy on ee and their data signal is same as ee 3g, which is only slightly slower than ee 4g

In 10 years and 3 SIMO tariffs never had one day of trouble hot from me!
Although pricing is a bit erratic I have 3 x unlimited everything contract for £15 each, however that tariff is charged at anything upto £30!
IRONM4N_UK
30 Aug 16 3 #20
And with VM it's not if it goes wrong it's when.
I had the unlimited minutes tariff and after a few hours of calls it cut me off and kept saying I had no credit, on a SIM only contract?

Customer services explained after 3 advisors and 50 minutes on the phone to them that it was that I had used all of my 'virtual credit', they reset it and explained every time it happens just call and ask for a virtual credit reset.

More hassle than it's worth.

What kind of 3G speeds do people get on Virgin?

I remember reading some of the MVNO cap the data speeds... I have no issues with 3G, as long as decent-ish speed, get anything from 7-15MB speeds on T-Mobile and similar speeds on my work Three phone when outside of 4G areas. Both are perfectly acceptable for streaming music on Deezer and watching YouTube Videos.
