Flying in a Mig-29 closer to the edge of space than any other civillian could possibly dream to go for the price of a family saloon car ... rather than paying Mr Branson £250000 for a trip that probably won't ever happen!
Experience the most mind-blowing aerial adventure imaginable, a supersonic flight to the edge of space in a MiG-29. Head to Russia's world-renowned Sormovo Airfield for the trip of a lifetime, usually reserved for the likes of astronauts and cosmonauts. After meeting the instructor and ground staff for a full pre-mission briefing, don a g-suit and get strapped into the mighty MiG-29. Hold on tight for a jaw-dropping vertical take-off and climb to the very edge of the atmosphere, breaking the sound barrier and experiencing a barrage of aerial acrobatics along the way. Once at 80,000 feet, the awesome sight of the curvature of the Earth will take your breath away and make a memory to last a lifetime. Literally, out of this world

Hello guys,
Just google it and found that on Russian webpages price is different:
2.The flight into the stratosphere 800,000 RUB (9,230 GBP)
So you can save a lot buying it directly from Russians. I searched only for a 3 min and checked 3-5 web pages, and it look like it is standard price. But maybe if you will spend little bit more time, you can find it even cheaper (some special offer or directly from organisers) because webpages which is I checked it is also touristic agency's.
Seems cheap but that's because it's only one way.

The MIG-29 has a maximum altitude between 64k and 74k feet.
Virgin Galactic and others (once operational) will take people up to over 100k feet. It should be noted that NASA considers 100k feet the edge of Space, meaning going into Space, meaning space travellers.
Nothing wrong with good value Russian offer when it simply should not be compared to going into space.

I've spent months circling the Earth looking at the aurorae dancing above the world like it was bottled in a lava lamp, the swimming colours spread across the skies like drops of oil in a puddle. I've seen lightning strikes lit from above the clouds, each of them flashing left, right, here, there, who knows where - just like rain drops falling into a puddle. What you say about 60 degree bank equates to 2g is true, but only for a level turn. If you do a climbing or descending turn at 60 degrees angle of bank you could use any g you like (up to the maximum lift from the wing at that airspeed, or the g limit). By my maths, the radius at 100 knots true airspeed in a level turn would be 156 m, at Mach 2 at sea level it would be 27 km. :man:

They probably need a team of about 5 or 6 engineers to work for about 15 hours on the ground for each hour in the air. 100mh at £100ph gives ten grand, so that brings it up to £11.5k. That's the labour, then add in the parts and it looks to me they aren't making a profit at all, even before the notional funding costs to buy the thing in the first place.

You do remember right, the Russians have very good ejection seats, here's an even better example. Also a Mig-29. I'm still not sure how this guy survived?
At 60 degree bank with no sideslip, then you pull 2g. The difference the speed makes is the radius of the turn. At 100kts, the radius is probably 100 feet or so, at Mach 2, the radius is measured in miles i expect. This is basically why fighter aircraft are designed to pull 12g, so they can lower the radius of the turn (by pulling say 9g or whatever the pilot can tolerate).

It used to fly a short journey round the Bay of Biscay which wasn't expensive at the time. It's maximum height was over 60,000 feet. I'm not sure whether it reached that height on the short flights but you could see the curvature of the earth and the sky above was black! And you did get to Mach 2! And you did it in rather more style than in a Mig.

I'm certainly no physicist...however, I can't help but think that your assumption is wrong...
If the Mig and Cessna are pulling the same rate of turn (60 degrees), but travelling at different speeds, then centrifugal force will mean that the faster object will experience proportionally higher G forces...
Of course, if the Cessna and the Mig are travelling at the same speed, then the G forces will be the same.

You wouldn't pull many g just getting up to speed, probably 2 or 3 at the most, unless you go from an aircraft carrier where it's a bit more. The high gs (positive and negative) come from manoeuvres, like tight turns, and surprisingly, the g depends only on the correct bank angle and not the speed. So it you're banking at 60 degrees in a cessna at 100kts, you pull the same g ( +2 in this case) as the mig at 60 degrees at Mach 2.

Well if you are trying to lure the space enthusiasts, then technically you failed (click to see why) due to lack of information. But you could say "way above the clouds". Don't know about hot or cold but heat for the effort.

The problem with turbojets is they are too slow to escape into space. The mig 29 is only Mach 2, whereas scramjets get up to Mach 24 and at that velocity they can escape gravity and go into orbit (as the one in my picture is doing, simulated of course). That's a trip worth paying 14 grand for, but 50 minutes in a mig is also pretty good value, so afterburner hot from me.

You also need to sort out your flights and visa for this offer.

It's a shame Thunder City closed down in South Africa. A much more inviting country to visit, and a much better plane (English Electric Lightning) to reach the edge of space. That plane still holds numerous world records...
You misunderstood my text ... it was in direct response to Summer.. saying "come fly with me" (ie her) .. i would rather fly with a pro pilot (ie the Russian)

To be honest I believe Russian pilots have got more than their fair share of flak due to the old, poorly maintained aircraft they're tasked to fly. Some of the epithets they've been adorned with are a bit unfair, e.g. ''In Soviet Russia the plane flies you!!''.
When it comes to manual flying, they're probably amongst the best in the world (though probably not so when they're on Stolichnaya Red) because they have to be.
Remember the guy who landed a commercial Tupolev in a corn field after all three engines failed a few years ago (bootleg Jet A laced with water). He not only saved all his passengers and the plane, but the plane was put back into service within a few weeks :-)
If I had this kind of money I'd definitely buy this. Good find OP, heated.

Why is it dangerous to go to Russia?
Because your knob will fall out.
Just google it and found that on Russian webpages price is different:
1. aerobatics 45-50 minutes 550,000 - 650,000 RUB ( 6,350 - 7,500 GBP)
As example:

http://www.stranatur.ru/ru/vip-tours/flights/
Regards,
Aleksandr
Virgin Galactic and others (once operational) will take people up to over 100k feet. It should be noted that NASA considers 100k feet the edge of Space, meaning going into Space, meaning space travellers.
Nothing wrong with good value Russian offer when it simply should not be compared to going into space.
Because Chernobyl Fall Out.
Has anyone bought it? if so do you need anyone to go with you?

, Mr Doom & gloom!
don't see why the russians are charging so much for this.
Might be worth contacting them directly for an offer, given the price. I once did an L-39 flight with MiGFlug, was pretty cool.
And it'd be a great alternative to defense spending: tell Republicans to spend their own money on war.
flying Mach 2 at 60 degrees at sea level looks quite exciting, I wonder if one wing submerged in water would affect the aerodynamics?
or suchlike.
Must be pretty amazing thing to experience mind.
Oh and there won't be a pilot looking at you while you may feel the urge to do some nasty stuff in space!
you could just study really hard at school being a perfect A* student, get a 1st class degree in astro-physics spend 5yrs offering a phd, join the British Army Air Corps as an officer, European Space Agency as an astronaut thus becoming an International Space Station (ISS) crew member. and so get this deal for you guessed it: FREE
But I'd give it all up in a second just to see a real pair of boobs... reflected in a puddle.
(I can normally work such things out via logic ... or Google. But this one had me stumped!)
Not quite the same thing, but for less than 1/10th the cost you can do something like this, and imo far more fun.

Save your cash
at least you making £5.000 at least!
go to any Russian websites offering same flyte, you will see price maximum 800.00 rubles which came £9.000!
that is maximum price but if you know Russian language or have Russian speaking friend - you can save lot of money.

Don't forget, the 2 Malaysian Planes that tragically AND fatally 'vanished' into thin air were ironically 747's of which you now speak of?. :-(
If it could barely manage the 30000-33000 feet that these babies usually fly at, than the 50000+ feet to hit the outer inner parameters of the edge of space is gonna be a killer! (figuratively mind, though literally may also prove apparent?).
Very sad losses of life man. :-(
Though Space could be interesting?, I think I'll stick to normal Holiday Travel thanx?.
But all the best for any/everyone else that's more than brave enough to explore. :-)

Book here http://www.flymigsokol.com/prices_flight_mig29
It used to fly a short journey round the Bay of Biscay which wasn't expensive at the time. It's maximum height was over 60,000 feet. I'm not sure whether it reached that height on the short flights but you could see the curvature of the earth and the sky above was black! And you did get to Mach 2! And you did it in rather more style than in a Mig.
How fast is a MiG 29?
