I got a 75 wash one from home bargains for £5 a couple of months back different fragrance but I found the powder itself to be on the same level as surf/daz

Got a problem with a smelly washer/dryer at the moment and can't seem to resolve it with 90 degree service washes or bleach. Some people suggest that liquids are the problem and powder's the way to go. Anyone got any tips? Obviously, I leave the door and soap tray open to allow air to flow etc.

I had a similar problem, pulled back the seal from the drum and found a load of black gunk in there, I spoke to an independent repair man who said that liquids are the problem, I used an Aldi washing machine cleaner ( it took 2 goes to clear the goo), have been using powder now for 12 months with no problems, hope that helps.

Interesting tip - is this from personal experience? I do have a built-in dishwasher but have never used it. Someone suggested that this could be the problem, but I don't really think it is. The dishwasher smells like a brand new appliance and the pipe to it is closed off.
Someone else suggested that using the dryer (I never have) could resolve it, but I've had a washer/dryer before and not experienced this problem.
Thanks for the reply.

Easy powder is great, always on offer at Home Bargains or Farmfoods, washes great, smells nice

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I've just peeled back the bottom of my door seal and found no goo, so the residue must be elsewhere. Interesting to hear further evidence that liquid cleaners could be the problem. Typically, I have about a year's supply to use up

We had the same problem and we were using liquid, the washer was always smelly and the clothes started to as well - we changed to powder (funnily enough only because it happened to be on a very good offer at the time) and we've had no problems since

I have been buying this powder for years, just as good as the most popular brands not to forget mentioning it's only £2.00.
Win win I say .
