I just checked out the brother website and found that this printer can fit fabric labels, so this is the one for me, thanks OP.

I have an older Brother printer and was looking to replace it as it wastes a lot of tape on printing on the lead in and lead out. This one does the same, unfortunately, judging from reviews and is powered by six batteries that do not last long. Seems like a false economy to me, cheap printer, not so cheap to run and the tapes are pricey.

Orig tapes are very expensive. Aftermarket Ebay are fine though.
Batteries - if you don't mind the machine forgetting the last used setting and the last used "printed words" then just remove one of the AAA's after use and the battery life is fine if you are only going to use the machine every now and then.
If it's a machine that use more frequently - spend a bit more!!

I actually think the other one is more practical, unless you need to use the different-sized tapes the PTH75 can cope with. I don't like the non-Qwerty keyboard on this one. Has anyone worked out why this one is called a 'hobby printer'? (I still think it's a bargain, though.)

I have an earlier version of this. I've had it for over 10 years and it's been great. It does take rather a lot of batteries (6 AA) but I used top quality Duracells and don't recall ever changing them! It also has the option of running of an A/C adapter. It is somewhat wasteful of tape on lead out, so I keep a note of labels I want and then print several labels at once.

I prefer this one due to the extra features such as different tape sizes. I do agree the qwerty keyboard is nicer to use but its not like you'll be writing a book on it... its for labels. Both are good deals though. Shame there's no stock of either anywhere near me. :disappointed:

For anyone who cannot find stock nearby, try a WH Smith. I saw the slightly better PTH100 in a branch in Nottingham today for £10 on clearance. Stocks are probably low, I suspect.

Sainsburys are also selling the PTH101GB for £10, I foolishly bought one earlier when it was reduced to £13.33

Does that one have a port for a 9V mains adapter? I do like the 2-line printing that these portables do but I wouldn't want to have to rely on batteries.

No port for a 9v adapter. Works fine on rechargeable batteries so not something to get hung up on IMO

Thanks for the replies. What I could see online made me think it didn't have one so I grabbed a PTH105 instead. I have the power adapter and really cannot be bothered with charging up 6 batteries every time I grab this out of the drawer. A few quid wasted but c'est la vie.

Um.. sat here looking at it and there is no obvious ac slot - could it be that is an optional extra replacing the batteries and the back piece.
