This is a great price for the specs. It's a kinda gaming hybrid - it's not going to play the newest games on max 1080p but it will play most at 720p on high or max. It will lightning quick for normal applications and loading Windows etc. I think this would be superb for students.

It's truly mystifying to me that people actually do this. Naturally it's going to be blurry, and those "high" or "max" settings will be washed out along with it once the GPU/display upscales the image. So you're left with the worst of both worlds.

Why not have a 100% crystal clear experience at native res on ~medium settings, the way god intended?

Just to let you know I'm not buying it .... I have an Alienware laptop and a home built PC which is running everything on max. I really don't get why you even felt the need to comment....

Because not everyone can afford to do that. So just to let you know I'm not buying it but my point is valid for students who only occasionally game on the PC or laptop most would have a ps4 or Xbone (which don't play games maxed out either compared to their PC cousins). Maybe that means the console market should be shut down and made redundant..... Again I don't think your comment is helpful for people deciding if they should buy this or not. So I stand by what I said. Also just to let you know I have a desktop for gaming and Alienware laptop which I use for portable gaming occasionally. A couple of years ago people were spending £1000+ for an Alienware 14 with a 720p screen with 4th gen I5 and 750m. This is quicker than that and half the price and most who have a Alienware have them for a good few years before selling them around this sort of price.

Also it depends on the game. If it looks nicer on a lower res then do that. If it looks nicer on 1080p on lower settings do that. The main reason of doing it is down to the amount of graphics Memory available if it doesn't have 4gb (which I haven't researched) then typically you have to lower the resolution.

I think you completely missed the point of Glacc's post.
He's saying that with this laptop, rather than lower the resolution to play at high/max settings and have the display stretch the 720p, it'd be smarter to just play at 1080p at medium settings, it'd actually LOOK nicer than the stretched image.

Pretty sure this is a TN screen 200 nits brightness which is a shame... This laptop is so close too what I'm looking for - tempted.

Is this laptop overkill for a non-gamer? I'm looking for a powerful laptop for HD video editing (Prem Pro), I guess it's just CPU and RAM I need to worry about?

Cold. At this size price/size go for quad-core. I paid £100 more, two years ago, for an ASUS with 1080p IPS and a i7-4710HQ, touch-screen, HDMI and mini-DP output. This computer is also only limited to 12GB RAM.

Does anyone know what size the slot for a second hard drive is? i.e. What thickness for the hard drive?

Anyone had a go at upgrading the SSD? I will buy this if replacing the SSD isn't a ball ache. It doesn't look like it has an access hatch so I'm guessing it is.
