In my local esso/Tesco every time this deal comes up they think I'm on the scam when I go in and ask to buy 4 £50 Tesco giftcards and put through as separate transactions! Last time I had to email head office and take the proof in before they'd serve me!!!!!!

Yes, I've had this a few times and at least one offer was £10 off a £50 spend.
I use the Tesco Esso and buy giftcards. Unlimited it would appear until it ends, so a possible 10% off a major spend if the giftcards are available. B&Q is an example.

I've just used this offer for the first time today. I got the "You've redeemed your Esso offer" email but it actually shows as "Tesco Filling Station" on the statement (an Esso with a Tesco Express attached). As long as I get the £5 cash back I don't care, of course.

19 Aug 161#71
Spot on with that.
Received my letter yesterday stating they are reducing the cashback rates and leaving the annual fee the same (nice of them). I'll have to juggle the figures with this one and see if it's worth it or to start using another card (even non-Amex). With the way the recent offers are being implemented, it may be worth paying the fee as not all offers have that manual add now!
To be fair, it may not even be Morgies fault.

19 Aug 161#72
Depends how much you spend - if it's a fair bit the £25 pa card is still likely to be the best on the market.
backinstock
19 Aug 16#73
Yes, I'll have to asses it.
My annual cashback is only circa £75 per year, so circa £50 for myself and £25 for Amex. It would have been nice to see the annual fee drop to £20, but obviously unlikely.
I'll have a look around the cashback sites and see if there are any incentives.

Has anybody else found that after a certain number of times using this offer, they stop getting the £5 back?
My first transactions were processed and £5 returned within 2-3 days. Not the case for my most recent transactions though. I have some from one week ago which have not yet had the £5 returned.

No issues so far, but only used four times.
Email confirmation each time, just waiting for the last credit to show tomorrow.

4 Sep 16#77
I got the email confirmation every time too.
I called Amex and they said I would need to wait at least another week before they investigate and to call them next Sunday if I still haven't had the £5 returned for each transaction. They also said I shouldn't worry about using the promotion and not getting the money as no matter what they will return the amount manually, as they can see that the particular Esso is included in the promotion as the early transactions worked without a problem.

Strange, but my last one (4th) hasn't updated with the £5 credit yet.

I'll be back to the 'reliable' one tomorrow, so see how that goes.
dave80
6 Sep 16#83
I have finally got most of the credits I was expecting although now they seem to have grouped them together so that e.g where I did 5 transactions of £50 on a single day, I got a single £25 cash back instead of five separate £5. This has happened for two different days. I'm still waiting for a few credits to come through but I'm confident that they will.

7 Sep 16#84
I've done my £50 spend today at my original Esso garage and as usually email confirmation immediately.
I'll check my last purchase tomorrow morning and chase up if it hasn't been credited.
I've just received some £4 and £3 off £30 spends at Tesco, so the giftcards will come in handy. Equivalent to £9 and £8 off a £30 spend. £20 petrol, £30 giftcard.
Time to stock up on Xmas booze.
Although, the 'Shop Small' event covers that.

I might squeeze another couple of £50 giftcards in later today.
Not a massive saving, but I've been coinciding with a £3 off £30 (had a £4 off one) spend. Equivalent to £8 off a £30 spend. Handy also for the Xmas spirits, £5 off say a £15 litre. Always petrol too.
