I'll have to re-think this and decide whether I should downgrade from my Platinum card. Costs £25 per year and to be honest, the cashback I earn is only around £75.......................and that's with all the 'Shop small' purchases!
Maybe time to switch to the basic non-fee-paying Platinum 'everyday' card.
Amex may be dropping the rates, but I don't suppose for one minute they'll be dropping the annual fees!

The offers for the main and supplementary cardholders are not identical and need to be loaded separately to each card. You would need to register the supplementary cardholder separately on the Amex website to see whether if the offer is available for that card too.

Well if it was described as an offer for the Platinum Amex Cashback card then it would seem like the majority of people would get it, so it must be because there are a lot of people with those cards.
I've just counted my Amex cards (mostly supplementaries) and the only card out of my 10 (!) with the offer was a Platinum card. So far it seems most people who've posted success have had that card. I've got 2 Platinum but only one had the offer.

Yes, you sign up using the second link. Unfortunately this offer is currently not available for cards in this second group.
If you tried to sign-up on the wrong site it would tell you that the card is invalid or words to that effect.
However behind the scenes both sites are connected e.g if you had different cards belonging to both groups then they won't let you register the same username on both sites. If in the future a manual/direct link is available and you use it then the offers (if available) in your registered accounts would show as being "loaded" too.

4 Aug 163#100
By the way there are 2 different amex websites that you need to register on for these offers, depending on which sort of card you have.
1) https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/ (for Amex issued cards e.g Platinum, Nectar, Costco, etc..)
2) http://cardmemberoffers.co.uk (all other Amex cards issued by other banks e.g Barclaycard, MBNA. You would know that they are not handled by Amex because you already had to register on their respective website to view your card statements).
At the moment this offer is only appearing under for some cards under group (1). Sometimes it is the other way around and offers initially only appear for group (2) cards.
Sometimes also direct links would be made available a little later when the offer is available to be loaded to any Amex card just by entering the card details and there is no need to register an account anywhere. It would then be possible to load the offer to any cards that you have remaining that haven't had the offer yet.

easiest way to do this:-
Log into Amex account,
go to "Top up your account"
enter "20" in the box (no £ sign - doesn't accept it)
Ensure you're paying with your Amex card
Top up happens automatically ( expires 2026 !!)
And I got an email from Amex, saying offer redeemed straightaway!

Gift card purchases have always worked for the Amex offers
The card issuer (Amex) cannot see what you have bought as does not have access to product SKU data and will just have a merchant category code for spend at Amazon.
The only way Amex would ever know is if the retailer (in this case Amazon) would hand over sales transaction data, never going to happen.

Yes, it is excluded but are you really going to email Amex after making your £20 gift card purchase? If not, then how do you expect Amex would find out that you had spent the £20 on gift cards and not say books? All the info about the purchase that they get from Amazon is (apart from the card details) just the transaction amount and not an itemised list of what you purchased.

No. Gift cards are NOT eligible.
C. Transactions that are not eligible
The following transactions are not eligible and will not count towards your spend for the purposes of the offer:
· transactions where you do not spend directly with the merchant (for example, if you buy the merchant’s goods through a third party department store);
· transactions processed through a third party payment processor (for example, PayPal);
· transactions that are subsequently cancelled or refunded;
· transactions where the merchant does not pass on the information we need to process it properly within the offer period (for example, when their payment systems are down and they cannot process the transaction electronically)
· transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or a voucher.

One of the advantages when purchasing giftcards, is that you have more time to spend them. !0 years? Saves diving in now.
If this offer can be manually added, then the £20 giftcards can be added together towards a larger purchase.

offer only available on 1/2 of my AMEX cards
HUKD works in mysterious ways!
As far as I know the offers on the cardmemberoffers.co.uk website are the same for everyone so nobody with MBNA or Barclaycard would have had this offer.
I think "we" (AKA backinstock) may have to give up any hope of enrolling additional cards in this one, seems intentionally restricted. We'll see. :disappointed:
I try a gift card - but terms to say this isn't counted.
You would sign up using the first link if your card appears on this list ( https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/content/all-cards ).
Buy the Xbox with that? You'll also receive the £5 Amex cashback.
You'd obviously have a balance.
Edit - it does, just got the redemption email. :smiley:
Sounds like a good reason to ditch it along with the upcoming £140 fee and get the Platinum everyday cashback one with no fee.
Still got a £5 voucher to use.
Now need to find something worth £25 or more from amazon directly...
Will try PRIMENOW5 as well...
Log into Amex account,
go to "Top up your account"
enter "20" in the box (no £ sign - doesn't accept it)
Ensure you're paying with your Amex card
Top up happens automatically ( expires 2026 !!)
And I got an email from Amex, saying offer redeemed straightaway!
Heat given.
Heat up.
The card issuer (Amex) cannot see what you have bought as does not have access to product SKU data and will just have a merchant category code for spend at Amazon.
The only way Amex would ever know is if the retailer (in this case Amazon) would hand over sales transaction data, never going to happen.
A manual add is needed.
Where is Morgie? Having a lie in?
Amex has been pretty poor with offers this year! Got to be the worst year since the offers started.
Still four more months until 'Shop small'.
Amazon offer is on my main card, not on my partner's though.
Amex will see a £20 Amazon purchase and you will see a £5 credit.
It's never ever failed yet and that's despite the 'exclusions'.
Been ages since a decent offer has shown up. Not seen the cash back on petrol for a while!
for other amex cards: https://network.americanexpress.com/ good offers on national theatre / london-based offers
I've just purchased a £20 Amazon giftcard and almost immediately received an Amex email confirmation.
don't see it on my card
I always buy giftcards when available, for obvious reasons.
C. Transactions that are not eligible
The following transactions are not eligible and will not count towards your spend for the purposes of the offer:
· transactions where you do not spend directly with the merchant (for example, if you buy the merchant’s goods through a third party department store);
· transactions processed through a third party payment processor (for example, PayPal);
· transactions that are subsequently cancelled or refunded;
· transactions where the merchant does not pass on the information we need to process it properly within the offer period (for example, when their payment systems are down and they cannot process the transaction electronically)
· transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or a voucher.
Saved !

If this offer can be manually added, then the £20 giftcards can be added together towards a larger purchase.
Giftcards are generally the best way to go.
