Unless he's sitting very close he's not going to see a difference on a 51" telly even it was 4k surely? Also I'm not convinced the saving in energy cost is going to offset the cost of a current OLED TV which is quite likely the only way he will improve on a plasma unless perhaps it's very early model.

No I have 4k TV. You use plasma or crt so cannot see the difference. Time to change your TV as well. You can save a lot in cost of your eyesight and electricity costs as well if you move forward.

I have 4 firesticks and never had bad picture. 1080p movies never buffer. I use only for kodi though.
