i thought it wasn't classed as Wagyu unless you had it in Japan.

Keep in mind that there are like a dozen different grades of Wagyu beef. So no, this is unlikely to be the same or even close to the grade of meat that you would get in a super posh restaurant.
Saying that, I will take any excuse to buy a nice 28 days aged ribeye steak from my local butchers, so I can compare it to ALDI's Wagyu rump steak. <3

I think the most important one on your list is 'it will be sold out'. And it will. 227g for a fiver - I will pass, that's far too expensive.

LOL, no problem - Just a bit gutted that Aldi appear to have done Sirloin and ribeye before and I missed out :-( Will probably try and get some of this to give it a go though. Any excuse for a bit of steak and all that :-)

​i tried them both last time and couldn't tell any discernable difference from the regular steaks despite being almost twice the price @ £7 a pop, despite that I'm still going to try this rump because you never know it may surprise me, so have some heat op is :smiley:

Yes this may come from the Wagyu cow, but it is not the same as the premium, £30.00 a steak stuff.
All the do with this is just mature it, and will be no better than any other 28 day aged steak in the supermarket.

Proper Wagyu is massaged for hours, fed beer and treated like royalty, and when its all said and done, the steak almost looks white from the marbling.

Any meat from Aldi is a definite no from me.

kobe beef - Has to come from the Kobe region of Japan from a specific breed of cattle. This is the real deal and is the most expensive beef because of the strict diet, living conditions, and grading that it has to meet. Not often exported around the world but if you found it in a restaurant it would cost over £100 a steak.

Wagyu - Just translates to Japanese cattle in general, not necessarly even from the Kobe breed and can be bred anywhere, sometimes with other breeds. It wont have been reared in the same conditions, you can tell when you compare the marbling of true Kobe and any other random Wagyu.

These will be from cross-bred Wagyu cattle that are fed a normal diet (and possibly some beer) so bear little or no resembelence in appearnce or taste to the real thing. You'll get a much better, much bigger piece of rump from a "normal" breed cow for the same money.

Wagyu means:
WA - Japanese
GYU - beef

So it referrs to all Japanese breed cows. These can be located anywhere in the world and produced anywhere.

Kobe beef - Kobe is the region where you can find Kobe beef. The "proper stuff" the massaged cow fed on beer.

Think of it as wagyu is the cava / or sparkling wine of beef. And Kobe is the champagne

I've never quite understood why the OP needs to act like an overzealous salesman every time this deal comes up. If he was a retailer, this post would be false advertising. This is not "the most expensive steak in the world" sold at a bargain price. It's a pretender. A fake. Mutton dressed as lamb.

Probably decent enough steak, but there's no need to oversell it.

I actually read about it in the Liverpool echo but googled it to confirm it was genuine and that was the first article that popped up.. if you must know.
