One of the best ultrawide QHD monitors available at the moment. Great fpr video and photo-editing with its IPS panel, over 99% sRGB coverage and large screen real estate (3440x1440). Great for games with 100hz (simple on-hardware OC) and G-Sync, and the ultrawide screen providing immersive feeling (do check game compatibility here).
It has been historically above £900 on Amazon, so first time below £900 according to camelcamelcamel. Only 13 left at the time of writing. Hurry!

I use the Asus equivalent of this monitor with a GTX1080 and can run pretty much everything on high-ultra, I'd imagine a 980ti would still be good enough to do the vast majority of stuff on high settings. There's a few videos on YouTube with benchmarks with that setup.

I don't have a problem with the specs or the price, however Acer quality control and RMA process are absolutely horrendous. Keep this in mind should yours develop a fault which Amazon say has to be resolved by Acer.

The technology isn't ready for VR, the resolution is way too low and won't be solved for quite some time as the graphical power required to render modern games in 8K+ doesn't exist for the general consumer. VR is more likely to progress on mobile platform where 4K screens are becoming more abundant and we'll get 8K screens and higher on mobile devices sooner rather than later.

Indeed, considering it is £300 more than the Freesync version of the same monitor (granted the Gsync version max refresh rate is 20Hz higher due to factory overclocking, but still don't justify the 50% higher in price).

Well there's always a way to get one for that kind of price-point. Just simply follow what's shown in the following video...
3D 'died' because of inconvenience and cost, not because the experience was worse.
Go play either (reboot) Tomb Raider games in 3D vs 4K/Ultrawide/etc. and see which version is superior for yourself. 3D for gaming is simply superior to any resolution and FPS bump, but to get 3D work correctly, it requires quite a bit of effort, and the added inconvenience of the glasses made it rather unappealing to the vast majority of consumers.
VR faces an even bigger uphill battle for so many obvious reasons, but the biggest one is the lack of proper high-production games on VR. So far the experiences seem to tailor toward arcade style games, and it appears that to get VR work for traditional FPS/third-person type games, an enormous effort is required by devs in order to overcome potential motion sickness issues.
VR could provide the best gaming experience and still face a low adoption rate with consumers, simply because of all the added hassles it brings with itself.

To this day, this monitor (alongside the Asus PG34Q) is the absolute best monitor money can buy.
However there's one issue that no one seems to mention about this monitor, which is the HDMI input port stretches any feed that you connect to. Basically, if you plan to play your consoles with this monitor, it will stretch all your games by a bit on both sides. So instead of a normal 16:9 with black bars on the sides, you will get an awkward ratio (~18:9) still with black bars on both sides.
Aside from that, this monitor is heavenly for normal '2D' PC gaming. It would be near perfect if this monitor had support for nVidia 3DVision 2, but unfortunately, no monitor supports 3DVision anymore.
Though I pre-ordered it for £880 on Very before it even gets released, so unless you have the 5% student discount, the current Amazon price is hardly worth it, especially considering the P version is right around corner.

I know the current gen VR headsets dont have the clarity yet but after playing with virtual desktop and other similar apps, I wonder if there will be a need for large high performance screens in the future.
I admit the current gen don't offer the same quality.

Have this monitor, paid £550 in amazon wharehouse deal. my usual evening is split screen you tube and hotdeals then some gaming.
I could not go smaller than 3440x1440 just seems normal.
mine only hits 95hz but im happy with that.

If you're considering buying the X34A, you might want to look at the forthcoming X34P which is a refreshed version with an improved OSD (with joystick), greater curve and metal chassis. Even if those improvements aren't thing you're interested in, it might be worth hanging on to see if the X34P pushes the X34A down in price.

I did like the Z35 especially for turn based games but ghosting was a major issue in any action game and made most games unplayable. Also scrolling on a dark screen made the text unreadable such as this one.example website
I tried all sorts of settings and found everything looked better on 144 but for that sort of money it needs to be right.

I got the z35 and was blown away by how good it looked but ghosting was an issue with it being a va panel.
I think this looks good for the price just out of my budget though.
Bear in mind 27" ips over 60htz are around £600

I've had the X34 and z35, while the X34 is amazing to use in everyday stuff like browsing editing etc its not the best gaming monitor, my z35 is a much much better gaming monitor, yes there is ghosting in a few games but the 200hz g sync makes so much difference compared to 100hz im able to play much better in racing games also, plus the blacks and contrast on the z35 is very nice, plus its easier to hit that 200hz mark because its only 2560x1080

As impressive as this monitor is, I suspect we are a way off above 60 fps 4k gaming. My dual titan x rig struggles to maintain 60 fps at max settings at a 2k resolution on the new hitman for example, though I suspect that's more to do with the game than the machine.
Bottom line if you have the best part of a grand to spend specifically on a monitor get something like this, otherwise go for a 4k one with lower refresh rate for a good chunk of change less.

3440x1440 is much easier to drive than 4K. 5M pixels vs 8M pixels.
I can hit 100Hz at native res ultra in games like Doom & Bioshock Infinite and G Sync is a game changer, once you use it I doubt you can go back.
You use the Display Port input for PC games.
HDMI can be for a console.
This also has G Sync.

Have some heat.. Very expensive for a monitor but it is a good price for what it is. Personally Im looking at the dell u3415.same resolution but less refresh rate.. It can be over clocked to get it closer to 80hz i think. Big price difference considering the performance difference.

Just did a quick Google on that and people seem to suggest mixed results on the Dell overclock. I presume the hardware OC like the one in Acer X34 or Asus pg348q (same panel I heard) is more stable than the software OC on Dell U3415?

I read something on tftcentral about a new version of the dell u3417 I think. Apparently less back light bleed issues, better curve. Not sure about refresh rate, but you would hope for it to be improved.
Of course, you could wait forever for the perfect monitor at the perfect price, I just mention it because I was also looking at the dell u3415.
