I have a decision to make here. Wife is ready to buy it as my xmas present this year but not sure whether she should pull the trigger yet or wait for nearer christmas.

I feel this console launch could go one of two ways. Either it sells so well it becomes rare and certainly not put in a value bundle for xmas (just like the early days of the wii) or it sells reasonably but there is plenty available and good bundles are available xmas time.

Interested to hear peoples thoughts on this one.

Well the 2tb model released on 2nd August sold out within 48 hours so you have some idea of its popularity
TN567 to en3sge
31 Aug 16 3 #76
I personally would hold out bud, if its not getting used till christmas day then whats the point, its almost 4 months away. Surely a better deal with a better game will appear closer to xmas and if not, then buy it with this cr4p game nearer the time. Game normally throw up some half decent bundles nearer to xmas, eg extra pad when buying a certain couple of games etc

My advice, hold out

The link goes directly to the home page, search: xbox one. It brings up games only, but a banner above says great xbox one console deals at tesco direct, click that (or go directly to tesco direct of course)
Search xbox one s 500gb (assume 1tb works too) it brings up a message saying this doesn't exist, but check out 4 similar products. It should be one of the 4 it brings up.
Bit long winded but got there eventually.

The xmas bundles will include 2-3 games which means they will prob be £280-300 mark. So you either end up with more games to get rid of or keep some of the games. I'd rather have the console at the cheapest price which this is.

Thanks. Noise is a concern. I just got rid of a 360 which sounded like a jet plane taking off. My friend's Xbox One Elite is silent. I have been concerned that the smaller size of the S, combined with everything inside, would make it more likely to heat and have fan noise.

dkwookies to united4eva
31 Aug 16 #98
Only thing I would say is check out the PC cross play thing. First party Xbox one digital games will activate PC versions on your MS account.
Other than that PS4 is more powerful so will have higher resolution on most cross platform games. But then as previous poster says it comes down to those exclusives. PS VR, Uncharted, Gran Turismo vs Gears Of War, Halo, Forza etc.
Imho get the Xbox One S in this deal then hunt down a second hand PS4 for £150ish later down the line once PS VR has proven it's not a flash in the pan gimmick like kinnect was

31 Aug 16 #113
You mean the 360? I actually did own the 360, from 2006 can't say I ever experienced it overheating. Edit: Actually that's not true, I did get 3 RROD every now and again come to think of it. I also owned the original Xbox, that definitely didn't overheat and is actually still going strong. Regardless, they're completely different consoles.

As for Fallout 'lagging', I'm assuming you're referring to FPS drops.... I played all the way through FO4 on the One, I didn't experience 'terrible lag' at all. The odd frame drop here and there, sure, far from 'terrible'. Never played Hitman so can't comment on that.

Mortis123 to jennie1
31 Aug 16 1 #124
Performance wise? Hardly any improvement, only enough to support HDR. I'm not surprised they waited for the next model to add HDR. It is really the only selling point.

Supports 4k on for video and bluray but games are upscaled.

It's smaller but the power supply is built in. With their history, I cannot say this is a good thing.
Ferrit to jennie1
31 Aug 16 2 #129
S = white, new pad, power block built in, HDR, 4K, supposedly noisier, smaller
Old = black, older pad, power brick external, whisper quiet, looks like an old VCR.

Personally if you have no need for 4K the better value would be had with an older version imo. Then wait and see what Scorpio brings.

I'm edging that way myself, I don't see there being enough there to upgrade from the older console. Sure 4K would be nice, I own a 4K set, but I don't watch a lot of films so no huge selling point for me.

Mortis123 is a PS fanboy judging from his comments above. Imo if you are looking for an Xbox to buy get this one because when you eventually get a 4K tv if you don't already one, the 4K video and streaming will be very useful plus it looks much nicer than the other Xbox. If you already have an Xbox One then I would not get this.

Those who rave about it, like me, will own the Xbox 360 and are long due an upgrade!.

Agreed. Scorpio would be lucky to hit 4K30 at best - 1440p60 might be a more reasonable target. Scorpio is promising 6 tflops whereas the 1080 is 9 so absolutely no chance of 60 fps @ 4K unless you really take a hit on fidelity settings.

My Xbox One plays just fine on my 50" 1080p Panasonic plasma TV.

I'll get one of these when I can afford a 4K HDR tv, otherwise I really don't see any benefit in upgrading.

Good deal if you're new to Xbox One.

I have to agree with the external power pack comment, easier to fix when it goes wrong. I bought my Xbox one when it was on a Prime deal on Amazon earlier in the year, surely the current model will drop in price now.
Forza 6 is brilliant, not bothered about footy games. Tomb Raider also very good.

Who8MySandwich
1 Sep 16 #176
I'm also a 360 owner looking to upgrade and the price of this just looks too good to turn down.

Can someone please give me an idea how many games you can store on the 500 GB hard drive. Don't want to order this and then realise after a month or so I should have got 1TB!

Understand different games will be different sizes but just looking for an idea how much space regular games take up. Any help much appreciated
thesinstar to Who8MySandwich
1 Sep 16 2 #179
Not that many maybe 10 at a push. But just buy a cheap external usb 3.0 hard drive and connect that to the xbox to expand the space. I got a 2tb drive for £35 and it works perfect.
SneekyD
1 Sep 16 #177
That's a sweet deal..I pre-ordered the 1TB version using the same voucher code and it was £279. The money I save can buy me a decent game and I can use the Fifa footy poop as a coaster! (or I could if the damn thing came with a disc)

Worth noting that even thought the web site says 'delivery on day of release', and I rang tesco and they beleive it will arrive with me on the day of release or the day after, the delivery date on the actual order came back as 'on or before Monday 26th Sept'...so if it's worth more to you to get the box on the release date than it is to save £20, then this might not be the best deal for you

Personally, I hotted this up, cos it's the best price for a 1TB I have seen so far

Is the XBOX ONE S actually better than the XBOX ONE? If you have no 4K tv what extra are you getting bar smaller and no power brick? I have 360 and will upgrade to a ONE for XMAS but not sure what to get as dont have 4K t.v.
Other than that mentioned what will an S give me more of? Thinking original ONEs should be cheaper than S`s by then if no advantage?
6ixFoot1 to coventryuser123
2 Sep 16 #193
It's just preference if you haven't got a 4k tv. Do you really want that big ugly looking box under your tv in 2017? Smaller and no power brick is enough for some as it's nearly £200 after selling fifa.
coventryuser123
2 Sep 16 #187
remember also S will only work on samsung and sony HDR tvs as its HDR 10 compliant, LG etc signed up to Dolby HDR standard so it doesnt work on them? Point is make sure your TV uses HDR 10 standard.
