As I said earlier in this thread, distance from the screen is important.
For a desktop monitor you're gonna be fairly close.

There are countless applications where a larger screen is better, regardless of pixel density. I use a 42" 1080P TV for meetings in a small office at work. It's fine. Higher resolution would be no use and smaller size would be worse.

Well, given the multiple thousands of positive reviews for 27" 1080 monitors it's obviously not as much of an issue for other people as it is for you. But hey, opinions.

Hardly, low pixel density makes a display worse, it's purely objective.
Would you buy a 17 inch laptop with a 1280x720 display? Or a 15 inch laptop with a 1024x768 display? Just get a smaller display; you'll save money and have a much sharper image.
85PPI is lower than even cheapo Chromebooks/Netbooks.

Er... no.
If you want 1080p just save your money and get a smaller screen. Not only will you save money, it will look better. 27 inches at 1080p is just awful. Saying people should spend less is probably the opposite of being snobby.

It depends on how crucial your photoshop work is; if it's professional then a Dell Ultrasharp or an Eizo monitor might be plausible, if it's just recreational then probably any decent IPS will be fine. Check out some 27" 1440p IPS panels is my recommendation
Opinions are like *blank*, everyone's got one and most of them stink
Fill in the blank.

To answer your question also, I would say it probably is worth the extra for an IPS display if you use photoshop a lot as the colour reproduction is far superior on IPS than TN panels

1080p gaming is fine, even on a TV at a decent distance. That's how I play most my games.
1080p gaming on anything over 22 inches is horrible sat at a desk, which is how you'd be using this monitor.
And what's worse? Not gaming on a display like this, using it for productivity would be horrendous at 81.59 PPI which is right out of the early 90s.

Agree completely. I used a 720p projector on a 106" screen for many years and it was amazing. Just because you can get 40" 4K TV's these days. If you watch a lot of video then having a screen of the same resolution is an advantage. Most people would be very happy with this for the money.

Dell Ultrasharp are extremely good monitors, for professional work or otherwise. 32" is optimal for 4k also. Overkill..well that's up to you :stuck_out_tongue: 800 squid is quite a lot

I've got a similar panel - it's pretty good. The viewing angles aren't brilliant, but you get used to it. The blacks aren't particularly deep, but you can fiddle with the colour settings to compensate and the stand is pretty useless (only minor vertical tilt) ... aside from that, the panel works well as a general use display for a little desktop work, works well with PS4 and movie viewing. I have the Q model, which I believe, simply means the device has more connectivity options - the specs look the same.

1440 is really good for 27" screens, although there's nothing wrong with a decent 1080. I guess it depends on what you want to use it for and what graphics card you have if gaming
