28 Aug 16#82
I can & glad for it , because not everyone has a decent speed of Internet so watching a film in 720p or above just doesn't happen without stutter buffering etc it drives me mad . So my alternative would be blockbuster but as we know that is kaput so love film for me is perfect and I would never purchase a blu Ray dvd because like most films I only watch once so little waste of cash it would be for me.
littletime to MrScotchBonnet
28 Aug 164#87
I'm grateful that it is still going. Blu-Ray quality is far superior to that of streaming both for video and audio because bitrates aren't restricted by bandwith or server load . Costing around £2 per rental (if you watch one film a week) means it is cheaper by far too.

also note the £10 promotional credit shall be different from gift card credits though just to make it clear, and the promotion credit can be used on items sold by amazon but not 3rd party. I got £10 promotion credit awarded by their staffs due to some delivery errors they made and the last time i checked I cannot use the credits on 3rd party items. Though I've just signed up for it I'm thinking maybe I shall leave the membership as I've still got quite large amount of amazon giftcard credits to spend...

In what way is it worse ? Seems almost identical to me. Prices have gone up a bit - but not much. And you can sign up for that for just the odd month or two and binge watch.

***Heads Up***
A lot of people that use LOVEFiLM will be in this situation. Be careful.
If you have in the past swapped to watching only catchup services via BBC iPlayer, avoiding 'live TV' via BBC iPlayer (simultaneously broadcast on terrestial TV) and told TV licencing that you don't require a TV licence because of this, you need to act ***now***.
You now need to notify them again that would will be blocking the bbc.co.uk/iplayer domain via your home router (best to do this too, to prove this if they turn up at your door) and removing all BBC iPlayer Apps from iOS/Android devices (as they don't use the domain bbc.co.uk/iplayer) and be aware, Apps have a lot more background privacy sniffing about the Wifi network / Device ID / Mobile network you are watching iPlayer from, with the latest iPlayer update.
You need to do this with immediate effect to avoid been prosecuted for not having a TV licence. These new rules come into effect 1st September 2016.
Write to TV licencing at:
TV Licensing
Darlington
DL98 1TL
I recommend writing, because using the online contact form, will give possible indication of the ISP/IP address of your router, which will could lead to checks to see if that IP has every been used to stream catchup/live iPlayer streams after 01/09/2016.
If you write and state you have taken measures such a blocking bbc domains (even talk to your ISP about offering this service too), you will not have to pay the yearly £145.
The problem with this legislation, this is its all or nothing, I'd happily pay a netflix type prices £5.99 a month, to watch the little iPlayer content I have done, on the go, but I don't want to go back to having a TV in my house, because its such a time waster and paying the full licence, means that will likely end up happening at some point, and that's what I want to resist. As soon as you get rid of the TV in your house, you wonder how in the past you ever found the time to sit down and watch it.
So its ended up at 'nothing'. We need a netflix type price and subscription for just iPlayer, treat us as Adults, we'll happily pay it, force the licence fee - We won't.
Please 'like' so more people are aware of 1st Sept 2016 Deadline.

I take it they ditched the unlimited disc amount I remember people who used to pay around £10 for that and always got tv box sets.

The changes they implemented in February made me end my LoveFilm sub. They were going to charge me more for less or a lot more to get something that was more than I needed as they not only changed their prices, they got rid of the tier I was on. They changed the way they charged you a year or so before so that the Instant Video wasn't a free bonus add-on but the bit you were paying for, and the disc rental was the heavily discounted bit. Given I subbed for the discs and wasn't that bothered about the streaming I'm really annoyed. So I quit just before the changes came into effect.
I went from being a very happy customer to one that disliked them immensely just because of that, sadly.

I think I'll give this a go, since you end up a fiver up seems absolutely no reason not to. I used to subscribe to LoveFilm for a number of years in their early days (long before they joined Amazon). At the time it was an absolute boon as this was long before the days of Netflix or even Youtube. Nowadays I must say I prefer the convenience of streaming and rarely watch Blurays or DVDs, but still willing to give them a go.
I have recently got a 4K TV and would like to rent some mastered in 4K blurays if they stock any? I know they aren't real 4K material, but are said to look a bit nicer than regular blurays thanks to a higher bitrate...

Anyway - we had 3 back to back sudden bereavements in the family, so everything put on hold just coming to terms with these events, and I'll be honest, I totally forgot about it...until I saw his thread.
I know it was 5 years ago, but is there anyway I can get my £150 back?

I still use it - a great way to watch the sorts of shows that are exclusive to Sky without having to give the Murdochs your money - and a lot cheaper than paying to stream per-episode for something like Game Of Thrones.

What exactly are you expecting to happen? It's a bank holiday weekend, I doubt they have anyone in the office to process the lists, especially if the rumours of amazon trying to wind it down are true, mind UHD Blurays could give it s new lease of life if they stock them....

29 Aug 16#170
Your talking rubbish lol the post boxs in northern ireland are painted red unless you go over the border in to the south of ireland then their painted green because their not royal mail
Also there are no union jack / greenpainted post boxs unless someones graffited over them, i used to be with love film so i know there's no issue and ive just signed up again.
If there is a union jack painted post box you may be in a Protestant area this will normally be made clear by the fact theirs union jack flags everywhere and the kirb stones are painted in flag colours, likewise if you find a green post box you may have found yourself in a catholic area this is where you will normally only see the tricolor used in northern ireland as goverment buildings don't fly it.

1 - An actual BD-ROM is much higher quality than any streaming service.
2 - While they may be a bit sketchy on new releases, their back catalogue is also vastly superior to any streaming service. If you want classics or foreign films, it's Lovefilm or the more expensive Cinema Paradiso.
3 - Not everyone has a broadband connection that allows decent-quality streaming (admittedly not an issue for me)
4 - £2 a pop is cheaper than many streaming services. I've been on the 3 for £6 deal for years on end and see no reason to cancel.
TallerPaul
30 Aug 16#173
before amazon prime made their own video streaming service lovefilm used to allow you to rent or stream the video as part of their service of course now you can only rent the discs where it is benefical to some i could do alot more watching if i could stream as the post around here can be quite slow

Im a bit confused over when the 4 disc trial ends and the 2 disc month begins? Is there any 'monthly anniversary' date I can find in my lovefilm settings? I've probably been signed up for about 4 weeks now so I'm thinking my trial must be approaching expiry.
Also, what would happen if I rented Narcos during the 4 disc trial (Narcos is 3 discs) but then kept hold of the discs until after the trial has expired? I would then go in to month 2 where Im only permitted 2 discs. Would keeping hold of the 3 discs during month 2 take up my 2 disc allowance? Or do I still get 2 new rentals for month 2?
The way these rentals work are annoyingly unclear on this website. I thought trials were supposed to be an incentive to sign up permanently but theres no chance I could do so when its so hard to work out what their rules are.

hello stranger
On a diff note completly yeah i got my £10 promotional credit, there's no mention that i can find of when i have to use it by, would be alot handier if i had a prime membership rather than being forced to find another item to get free postage rather than paying £4.75 postage, it is a bit of a shame as only 3-4 days ago i spent £40 on products direct from amazon lol

does your credit show up in gift card balance? Mine doesnt show up there but does appear when I take something to checkout it subtracts £10. Does it show up anywhere else? I ask as I'll forget about having it, meaning if amazon ever delete it, I'll have probably forgotten about it
Opening post
Deal is as follows:
1. Signup for the one month free trial of Lovefilm via the deal link subject to eligibility - you will automatically be signed up for the 4 rentals per month
2. Once signed up go to settings and change your plan to the £4.99 one - 2 rentals per month (this won't come into effect for 30 days)
3. On 1st October you will get the £10 Amazon credit applied to you're account - valid for a year on products sold by Amazon
4. Then cancel online - 10 second job - you will still have access to Lovefilm by post until end of October after you cancel

Worrying that amazon may take money out of you account? Cos dodgy amazon always do that
and again you're ignoring the 6 blu-ray rentals
Just to clarify, to receive the 6 rentals you need to change the plan before the billing date from 4 discs per month to 2 discs per month?
Am I correct?
cheers
do i actually have to rent film or can i just sign up, not use it and still get the amazon credit ?
If you cancel your LOVEFiLM By Post membership, you will be able to continue to use the service until 27 September 2016
After that, please ensure you have returned any discs you have at home within 30 days.
If you change your mind and would like to start renting DVDs and Blu-rays By Post again, you can re-start your membership at any time.
Current Plan:
4 rentals per month, 1 disc at-a-time
Cancel Membership
From Your Next Payment Date:
2 rentals per month, 1 disc at-a-time
Cancel plan change
Thanks Chanchi!
The online service of Lovefilm was renamed Amazon Video, the postal service remained as Lovefilm by Post.
TL;DR: post only
A lot of people that use LOVEFiLM will be in this situation.
So does that mean they can still charge £8.99 even if the plan is changed to a £4.99 one?
4. There are currently three LOVEFiLM subscription plans available. All new subscriptions default to"4 DVDs and Blu-ray rentals per month (1 disc at a time)”. Customers can request a plan change to one of the other subscription plans available at https://www.amazon.co.uk/lovefilm/account/changeplan/ after sign up. Plan changes will take effect on customer’s next scheduled billing date.
thanks enjoy Jungle Book
Seriously great deal, 6 X Blu-Ray (INC 3D) + £10 Amazon credit for £4.99 is a winner! Now to choose films to rent that I have not got with the free TalkTalk rentals a little while back or Sky Cinema!
4 discs for £9 is pointless why would any one pay that might as well just download them (if you have poor internet with buffering issues downloading it fully would stop this)
"To add specific discs from a boxset to Your LOVEFiLM Rental List, you’ll need to add the full boxset and then remove the discs you don’t want us to send you, leaving you with the discs you want to rent."
