Not a huge fan of GearBest personally but this seems to have decent specs for the price.
Was around £120 recently but the price has dropped again.

I'm not very tech savvy with phones and stuff. I currently have the Elephone P8000 and I love it. I'm currently in the market and I've been looking at upgrading to the P9000.
If anybody could, without mocking me (if it's obvious) would this phone be the better choice over the P9000? I know the Elephone boasts 4GB ram, but I've read on XDA that's pretty much irrelevant on an Android device due to that only really used for keeping silly amounts of apps open at a time. Also, I found the fingerprint scanner to be faultless on the P8000, does anybody know how it performs on the XiaoMi Redmi 3 Pro/P9000?
Cheers guys.

Honestly it depends. It's a better brand, that's for sure but the screen is smaller and uses a lower resolution.
The CPU and GPU will be better in this though. All in all this is probably the better phone but it will be a trade off at the same time. If you want to keep the higher res and bigger screen maybe look at this model instead.
I've looked at both and I'd go for the p9000. Runs Marshmallow natively, more ram will help, better screen and had nfc which for me is a deal breaker.

Ah yes. I didn't notice the smaller screen size. I would ideally like to keep the 5.5", I appreciate the advice.
I'd assume I wouldn't notice a significant difference dropping from 3gb of ram to 2gb?

One day, I'll either ditch Vodafone or The likes if xiaomi will produce phones that I can use on 4G. One day......
Probably not. The CPU is faster on that 2GB version anyway.

P9000 has excellent screen. Cons: software issue on the Sony Camera, stops responding on the finger print, does not respond, needs shutdown and re-start, battery not good.

Elephone are crap. Trust me, I speak from experience (sadly).

Thinking of buying one for my son, but what is the warranty like? Not sure whether to go for a Chinese phone or stay safe with a HTC or Huawei?

There is none - the cost to send it back is more than the repair. :disappointed:

That link is wrong, as EE use 800Mhz too & o2 now have some 1800Mhz.

Have you any idea how to find out if it will work on Talk Talk network?

Unless you're prepared to unlock the bootloader and flash the ROM on this phone, get a version sold with custom 'Global ROM'. The Chinese apps on the China ROM are incredibly annoying and you can't uninstall half of them. The customised Global ROM is as clean as a whistle has all the Google apps installed and no malware (I got mine from HK Goldway on Ali Express).
Also if you don't mind 5.5", get the Note version as it has a faster processor and slightly better camera as well an official international Global ROM.
Other than that, it's just a great phone and the best one you can get for ~£100ish by a country mile. 4G also works brilliant if you're on 3.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash the global version yourself. That's only needed if you want to install custom or test builds.
In this case the chances are that Gearbest will pre-flash it for you anyway though.

OT but the Redmi Pro has just been released and also their Notebook Air. Both look superb. Xiaomi are definitely going places!!!
Yes & no - you could work out what network TT use, then check what bands they use (only 4 networks; EE, 3, o2 & Voda), BUT I would highlight that even EE may not offer 4G on anything other than 800Mhz in any specific place (as posted above, I have never seen any info on what bands of 4G are used where/by which network - you could try OFCOM's site). Also with any MVNO (such as TT) you can never be sure that they won't move, i.e. use Voda, then swap to EE (like Asda did). You'd likely get 3 months notice.
EDIT Also take comments like works great on 4g on X network with a HUGE pinch of salt - probably well intentioned, but results will vary from place to place (even in some cases from room to room) - don't forget that 800Mhz has greatest range of the UK 4G bands.

better than Honor 5x? (£130) - if so why? Thanks
doncoop to great-deals
30 Jul 16#38
The 5x is probably better. The reason is due to support and warranty.
Both have the same processor. This does have 32gb over 16gb in the 5x. Depending on your use of phones the bigger battery and 720p screen of the redmi can be seen either as a plus or minus.
Better network bands in the 5x is a plus as well.

Picard123

But there's no such thing as an official Global ROM for the 3 (though there is for the Note). It's currently custom.
