I will never heat a deal stuck behind the prime paywall. I hate what amazon has become. Bit by bit they are becoming extremely anti consumer and the more successful they are they more others will follow.

I used to buy all my blu rays and games from them but i have now shifted to other stores because of this. In fact you cant even buy some games direct from amazon if you are not prime. Craziness.

I have set up three new accounts today, joined the free 30 day trial of Prime three times to sign up for the free 3 month trial of Audible to get the free £10 credit three times.

That works out 30 quid for free by showing initiative but of course in wee poison midget Sturgeon's world initiative is a dirty word because as we all know getting free money means blackmailing Westminster for it :smirk:

Nonsense. If they want to make some items exclusive that's their prerogative. It's no different from any other "membership" exclusive offers and opportunities such as store reward programmes.

As for using Amazon Prime, the whole objective is surely to get more people to consider joining Prime. Why not make the most of the 30 day free trial to enjoy those prices. (I am a member and have benefited greatly, its not just the free next day delivery, including Sundays, its the Prime movies and tv shows, and prime music)

First bullet point on the page description:
'IMPORTANT: Upon purchase you will receive £10 of Xbox Live credit in addition to your 12 month Xbox Live Gold Membership. You will receive two £5 tokens and each must be redeemed before 31 July 2016 and you must spend the credit within 90 days.' (spend within 90 days after the date you redeem it)

Don't know about your second query though - how much do you have already on your account, can you spend all of it plus the £5 tokens by late October?

where does it say that you need to spend the two £5 vouchers within 90 days? :/ cant seem to find that and i already have credit on my account, does that mean i'll have to spend all my other credit too or will this spend first....kinda confused
ImagineMonkeys00
12 Jul 16 #102
They get sent to your Amazon account, go: Your account / Your Orders / Go to games library - this will show three separate codes, one for 12 months live and another two for the £5 tokens - you can redeem them on the Xbox site or just switch on your console and redeem them from the store.

Basically the same as buying a physical Xbox Live / gift card except you get the codes sent to your Amazon account.

Cheers OP.

Bought a £30 amazon gift card with £5 voucher back and used the gift card to pay for the 12 months :smirk:

So ended up paying the £1.49 balance (£31.49 in total), and have £15 coming back - £5 amazon voucher on the way and £10 at the XBOX store to use - making this effectively £16.49 for 12 months. Nice!

Waiting for this answer too...as not opened the link in my email yet. Don't have xbx 1 waiting on it till August.

Does the 12month have a expiry date as when I can activate it's? Also going to use the 2 * £5 to purchase INSIDE which I believe is £15.99, planning on purchasing another £5 gift card, so can I pay the .99 off with pay pal or do I need to purchase whole £5 gift card.

Also am I right to think by logging in my account via a browser n purchasing it it will appear when I log in the console.

Any reply and advice will be appreciated

It's really no different to Costco, Tesco with their ClubCard money off weekly shop coupons, Boot advantage, paying a company to track your credit score, basically every free and paid membership card that offers some incentive at some point. You have every option to buy the same products but not at a discount. You also have the option of a free trial.

12 Jul 16 #75
Yes you can buy them at the higher price.

Im not sure what amazon were doing with the complete block behind some items (see my link above). It could just be an experiment to gauge consumer reaction. But if they made money out of it you can bet it will come again.

Im sure overall amazon are making money from all these shennanigans but they lost my business thats for sure. I used to spend easily a grand a year on them. Now its more like 10 percent of that. HMV and simplygames for me. No pay walls, no delivery charges, good service and i even get points at hmv to save up for pretty cool stuff like signed gear.

Upset me how? You're suggesting I "move on" as if to say I'm not allowed to voice my opinion. I gave my opinion you're disagreeing, no problem there, then dismissing it by asking me to move on. If you don't agree with me it doesn't bother me, some how I'll be able to plough on and live my life even though I don't have your righteously blessed opinion agreement. But disagree, don't try and dismiss it as if it's invalid.

Oh I only clicked on the deal in order to vote it hot. Notice how if you're not on prime you can till buy these...?

thanks yes. the ability is called "common sense".

prime easily pays for itself for me - probably several times over - each year.

I enjoy free next day delivery and I get good use out of prime video and prime music.

that doesn't make me a sheep that makes me a money saver

if prime isn't justifiable to you because you don't spend enough in amazon or can get the same prices elsewhere then great, however it doesn't make those of us who avail of the benefits - financially and otherwise - sheep.

Come on, enough. It was a healthy debate before this started.

It is ok for people to disagree. The world would sure be a boring place if everyone agreed with each other.

There are legitimately two sides to this debate. It wont be resolved on here but it wont stop us from talking about it.

12 Jul 16 #68
Ok, i understand that for the regular, high value amazon customer the prime package is actually a good deal. Although my opinion here only applies only to the recent period where delivery now costs if you spend under 20 pounds.

And yes amazon's delivery service is usually second to none.

However, lets take this as an example of my grievance:

http://www.extremetech.com/internet/227150-amazon-refusing-to-sell-certain-video-games-movies-to-non-prime-members

This is the problem. Every now and then i see items that i simply cannot purchase unless i am prime. I can of course create an account for free trial etc so there is a way around but i am am still well in my rights to criticise the whole business practise of blocking purchases.

Maybe take up your issues with Amazon. For most people this is a fantastic deal. Probably the cheapest Xbox live has been for some time if you deduct the £10 you get in credit.

Up until recently I had never paid for Prime, managed to get it offer for £59 which is great. I understand that shelling out £79 seems like a lot, but they offer the option (albeit slightly more expensive) to pay monthly at £7.99. If you shop regularly then that on it's own is great for a fantastic delivery service. Packages even arrive on a Sunday! Throw in their movie/tv/music streaming service and it just gets better.

Why shouldn't paying members, or those that can be bothered setting up a new trial every month with different email addresses for the rest of their lives, be rewarded with even more from their subscription by getting exclusive discounts? I'm yet to find a product that's not available to those without a Prime membership. Yes you might pay more, or buy from a different seller, but you'll get the same product. You've really come onto HUKD on the wrong day of the year if you object to Amazon Prime.

Good to see you can make such accurate predictions about the future of commerce.

At the end of the day, companies are only out to make money and if that means they can get away with monetising every single thing to the nth degree they will. Admittidely it doesnt always pay off (eg microsoft with the launch of xbox one) but if they are clever and devious about it (eg amazon throwing in the film subscription service whether you like it or not and then increasing the price accordingly) then the sheep will often just follow...
Joshimitsu91

Its the same when i see a deal for places like costco. You have to pay to join them so are behind a paywall just the same. The answer ? simple i dont look at those deals then im not missing out. I pay £7.99 per month for prime. thats £2 per month more than i was paying just for prime tv and includes free delivery, prime music e.t.c. I get lots of benefit from it. I appreciate not everyone likes the amazon prime model but youve whined about it over 3 pages of comments and nothings going to change so move on.

Shop elsewhere. Simple. But you won't because Amazon is still a good deal even without being a Prime subscriber. For us that do subscribe to Prime, it's a fantastic service. I can get stuff delivered within an hour for free. A fantastic video service that rivals Netflix and a music service all at a cost that is cheaper per month than Netflix. Cant believe the people bitching about this.. take your pathetic jealousy elsewhere or pay up.

From a customer point of view i just think the current business model of amazon is a horrible preview of the future of shopping. Everything is heading towards a pay wall. Gaming is a great example. 10 years ago there was no such thing as a season pass. Now many games are locking out content unless you pony up the extra for this pass.

Amazon prime is essentially a season pass.

How much longer until we start paying for a blu ray "season pass" where you can access all the special features. Or a car "season pass" where you can access all your car's special features.

Companies are getting greedier and greedier.

That's market forces for you. Amazon has pushed online shopping forward immeasurably. Prior to Amazon the thought of receiving a delivery at home (a) the next day, (b) within 2 years, (c) on a Saturday, or (d) at a reasonably price point, was inconceivable.

Of course, the real issue is that Prime give you benefits such as exclusive purchases. If you are a Prime member that's great but if not you don't receive the benefits. The one perk a non-Primer gets is to save £80 a year or whatever it happens to be at the time.

As a Prime member I save the membership fee in next day delivery at Christmas between 21st and 23rd December! I save the £6.67 per month through HUKD and Quidco.
