I loved these kind of 'background noise' apps when I was a student, they cut out the noise on the street and keep you focused without being distracting like music. Also contains alarms and countdowns so you can drift off to sleep yourself, or send a baby to sleep (personally I used a hoover for that, probably cost more than 10p). Promotional blurb below.

Yes but (I think) you only get 15 minutes after you purchase it to get an instant refund. You just go back to the Google Store page and there'll be a Refund button.
After the 15 minutes you still can, but it involves submitting an excuse to Google and a lot of sitting around waiting

Thank you both, genuinely for taking the time to reply. The tapping sounds similar to McTimoney Chiropractic treatment (which is a good thing, though I'm yet to try it out). Physio is working for your tinnitus you say? I now have hope. Hope is the most powerful drug on the planet. :-)

Have you ever tried this I found on Reddit a while back? It seemed to get positive replies on there.
Place the palms of your hands over your ears with fingers resting gently on the back of your head. Your middle fingers should point toward one another just above the base of your skull. Place your index fingers on top of you middle fingers and snap them (the index fingers) onto the skull making a loud, drumming noise. Repeat 40-50 times. Some people experience immediate relief with this method. Repeat several times a day for as long as necessary to reduce tinnitus. Dr. Jan Strydom, of A2Z of Health, Beauty and Fintess.org.
There's a video here demonstrating the above technique if the snapping part gets confusing: https://youtu.be/2yDCox-qKbk
Picked this app up a while back when it was on Amazon App store for free. It is a great app. I use it pretty much every night to help get me to sleep. Easy to use so that you can set the sounds to play for a set length of time or to finish / start at specified time. Easy to download new sounds as well. One small negative is that the sound loops aren't very long, between 30-60 seconds on most, and on some it is very obvious where the loop begins and ends. But there are plenty where you don't notice the loop.

5 Jul 16#49
You too huh? I have mild tinnitus too. But it's not from going to a gig or anything like that. Very annoying as there's no cure or even treatment for it. I tried acupuncture and also the recommended (but there's no empirical evidence that it works) treatment of taking Zinc Picolinate and Gingko Biloba. I'm utterly convinced mine is due to excessive tightness (they're sore) of the sternocleidomastoid muscles in the neck.
Have you found anything that helps?

Listening to anything with headphones can damage your hearing quite easily, as the sound levels can often be higher than you think. It doesn't help if you ignore the volume level warnings or disable the volume limiter.

A review on play says the samples are only 10 seconds long and it's easy to hear the join - is that true? If so, I'm surprised they didn't just generate the noise instead of using samples - it's really easy to do.

I don't get it, is this some kind of "software noise cancellation" (I.e. it monitors the ambient sound and removes it) or it literally just plays a sound file and keeps looping it? Hardly rocket science if so, even for 10p.
