Looks like a great deal for the 20GB Sim only 12 month contract from Vodafone.

Unltd minutes (UK & EU roaming)
Unltd texts (UK & EU roaming)
20GB UK data (incl. tethering)
4GB EU Roaming data
12 months free Spotify, Now TV or Sky Sports Mobile

Reduced from £37 per month to £22.20 per month, however mobiles.co.uk are also doing £140 redemption cashback. This reduces the effective cost to £10.50 per month. If you're already paying for Spotify at £9.99 per month then this is surely a no-brainer!

£5 Quidco for a little bonus too!

I agree the deal is very good but considering I'm probably going to buy the iphone 7 sim free, it would be pretty silly to pay all that money for a decent phone but be frustrated with poor reception

My girlfriend is on Vodafone, and I have a mobile broadband SIM on Vodafone - we live in London and we get 4G everywhere. Certainly no worse/better than other providers. My one issue with Vodafone is that if you go out of large urban areas then you might only get 2G whereas on my EE phone SIM, I'll tend to get 4G/3G everywhere and very very very rarely will see 2G.
Vodafone is getting better though - they're investing heavily in their 4G network.

Yeah I agree. 90% of the time it would probably be fine. Vodafone used to be the market leader back in the day. I remember around 2000-2003 with Vodafone Live etc and David Beckham advertising.

Couple of questions...

Why does it say "free handset"?

and if I changed my phone halfway through the contract and needed a different size sim could I request it from Vodafone without affecting the cash acknowledge?

Stupid question but does streaming Spotify count towards your data allowance?

And if so, how much bandwidth does it use - say per hour?

Anyone know the best, easiest and quickest way to port my vodafone pay monthly number to this?
Vodafone say i can move to payg first (then back to pay monthly) but that won't happen until 30 days are up. I'm thinking of moving to a different network payg sim then to this, but unsure if I need to top up first before I can request a PAC.

When did you order? The change in price for the plan wasn't officially until the 29th, i think mobiles.co.uk were a bit early updating the info on their website so it may take a few calls to Vodafone to sort it out if you managed to purchase it before then. If worst comes to worse it might be a case of cancelling and re-ordering.

I have the 8gb Red Value plan from an earlier deal and can confirm that it comes with free Spotify. Mobiles.co.uk did mess up my contract though - they never set me up correctly with Voda so I couldn't register for Spotify. I moaned so mobiles sent me a cheque equivalent to 2 free months.

My SIM is currently solely used in a MiFi and I'll be using it when I go abroad later this month.

Do you only received a posted bill, or do you get an email bill you can then send them online for redemption?

Can anyone tell me how quickly they've received their Vodafone sim cards and do they come directly from mobiles.co.uk? I'm off to Spain for a month on Wednesday, I see they say 1st class to be received within 5 days, but wondered in reality how long it takes as 1st class should be a couple of days?

Thanks

Ordered a couple of days ago, sim arrived today. Quidco currently showing £10 tracked although I think it should be £5. My account is showing £22.20 after 40% deduction (valid for 12 months). PDF bills can be uploaded to mobiles.co.uk website - don't forget to change the number in the my account section on mobiles.co.uk if you pac in another number as the bill has to show the same number as recorded by mobiles.co.uk.

The 20gb @ £10.50 after redemption includes spotify, skysports mobile or nowtv. I had a text with link from Vodafone shortly after inserting sim.

Hope it clarifies if anyone is still unsure.

When I signed up with them a few months ago I got a text from Vodafone shortly after joining. However you can text ENTERTAINMENT to 97613 and they'll send you a link which will give you your options.

Vodafone do this 30 day guarantee, would you still get that via MObiles.co.uk or lose that.

Also the mobiles site does not mention the sports/spotify, again is that going to be a given.

Packages on the voda site also mention 4gb or roaming data and unlimited roaming mins/text but no mention on mobiles site
merrymiller
9 Aug 16 1 #52
As far as I'm aware you get 14 days with mobiles.co.uk and not the 30 day Vodafone guarantee.

Definitely get Entertainment package - watching as we speak. You'll get a text from Vodafone shortly after connection with a link to follow for Skysports, Nowtv or Spotify.

Must admit Vodafone connection is excellent and 4g much faster than Three network.

Roaming included. This is tariff as per Vodafone website at £22.20 per month. Cracking value when taking account of the cashback and Entertainment.

I don't see Vodaphone being the future in terms of network provider of choice. Coverage is poor, I have a work Mobile on Vodaphone and it's constantly poor, whereas my Three phone always has 4g coverage bar the odd spot where no phone has a reception.
Cameron583
17 Aug 16 #62
I spoke to an ofcom rep about 2 weeks ago and he was doing signal testing in the Cardiff area. At that point, with testing almost complete, he found EE to offer the quickest internet speeds with the best 4G coverage, though in his words, Three were more than good enough. Vodafone were behind Three with O2 quite far behind the pack with limited 4G coverage and slow speeds (though improving quickly).

Take this, as always, with a pinch of salt, as this will apply to the more demanding mobile data users that want Spotify and YouTube on the go (like myself). I found Three and EE sufficiently good (with Three prividing a more consistent speed for web browsing). For those looking for social media and your general browsing, I think any of the providers will be good enough.

Have Vodafone got rid of their £2.99 per day charge for roaming within the EU? It was great because we went round Europe for 3 weeks over Easter and were able to use inclusive data including tethering (I got that £20 per month offer that was hot around then). This looks like it's capped at 4GB and then very high roaming data charges after that?

17 Aug 16 #67
while some might suffer with signal issues in vodafone that's what the coverage checker is for before taking out a contract. I moved to Vodafone 6 months ago after suffering at the hands of ee for 20 years and while coverage is
n't as good the 20gb of data unlimited minutes and text plus 12month netflix all for 20 quid on a 12month sim only is a bargain plus if you know how to work around it like I do you can log into netflix us for a much larger selection. I have spoken to customer services a couple of times and it's hit and miss but my last call to them can only be described as amazing customer service.

Just gone for this. Currently paying 12.50 for 500 mins + 6gb data on iD mobile (no complaints, good service) but i am always creeping up on that 6gb limit. I just ordered the EE deal, but I'm tempted by this (particularly as I'd save an extra £4.99 each month on Student Spotify).

Can anybody that uses Vodafone London Underground Wifi suggest how often you have to reauthenticate? The good thing about EE is that it automatically connects. (I ask because getting a wifi connection when on the train at each station requires lots of speed before the train enters the tunnel again.)

Will hold off activating my EE sim until I can make my mind up. Thanks OP

How easy is it to open a multiple of accounts praising a go.ven company for its service? Very easy.

Vodafone live chat said to contact Mobiles, Mobiles said to contact Vodafone, Vodafone live chat then applied a discount but the wrong one and did not adjust the first bill...then i called Vodafone and got a very helpful person who has sorted it out.

My bill now shows the same as in this post: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/vodafone-20gb-sim-only-12mth-contract-22-20-p-m-10-50p-m-after-poss-cashback-total-2487149?p=28533444

Edit: The problem was Mobiles didn't correctly set up the 40% discount on the sim when dispatching it (though they blamed Vodafone, which is clear isn't the case).
malky39
20 Aug 16 #92
At least it's sorted. My billing is fine going though as £22.20. Just no sign of the entertainment pack. Even though Vodafone text me telling me not to forget to activate it about 2 weeks into the contract

Just checked the pdf says 12 months entertainment included. But it's still trying to charge me for spotify. Did you transfer your number over? Don't know if that might have caused problems and the number on the pdf is the one that came with the sim
JohnnyUtah to malky39
20 Aug 16 1 #96
I received the sim, activated it in the phone and left it for a day or so to "settle in". I wanted to activate the entertainment pack before porting my number in case it caused any problems not recognising my account. Still no text from Vodafone about the entertainment so I did what was already suggested on here. Text "ENTERTAINMENT" to 97613 and you are sent a link to click which takes you to a Vodafone web page to set it up. Whether it makes a difference or not but I already had the Spotify app installed running my free version. Clicking through the link it recognised my free account and set up my free 12 months in that account straight away. Funny thing was I received a confirmation text from Vodafone afterwards saying it was all set up successfully through to Aug 2018, not 2017!

Doubt very much that's the case as my Vodafone paperwork says 2017 but I will be keeping my eye out with interest next year.

I might have been lucky but my discounted rate was all clearly specified and my bill next month says £22.20 coming out so happy days.

Just have to hope the redemption is painless.

And so commences the run-around. Wish me luck.

25 Aug 16 #99
For anyone still looking at this deal, they do seem to **** up (mobiles.co.uk) when setting the price for your monthly bill. It may be £37 (as in my case) or the reduced £22.20 as it should be.

The way it works is that they have a direct line for setting up discounts with vodafone plans and they have the ability to apply a 40% discount on the £37 rate (which is the plan mobiles.co.uk has access to, not the one you see on vodafone's website). Some how they seem to fail at this sometimes and people end up with the £37 monthly bill.

They are apparently investigating this so I'll be waiting for a fix and not cancelling just yet. (You have 14 days)

This info may sway your decision, especially with the customer services at mobiles.co.uk being contactable via premium rate line.

One extra bit of advice: you may be better off waiting before transferring your number. If you get stuck with a £37 bill and then have to transfer your number back over this could be a bit of a customer service nightmare for you.

does this contract take money out each month (£22pm) and rebate you after 12 months or is it just £10?
Yazzy
4 Sep 16 #103
So I started a chat convo with Vodafone and explained the bill was incorrect, they said that they can see the discount was applied after the contract was generated so has not shown up on the first bill, and that they'll refund me the difference in credit (which will show on my account within 24hours) and that all subsequent bills should be charged at £22.20. They said I can email the chat to myself as confirmation of this. I'll chase mobiles.co.uk again before the 14 days is up and probably call vodafone to make sure the same info is reiterated to me, but I'm hoping all has worked out and will keep the contract!

Yes, it's meant to take out £22.20 each month and you claim for cashback in specific months of the contract so after the 12 months is up and after all cashback is received, the effective monthly cost should be £10.50.

So I took the plunge and signed up for this as I saw the price had even dropped further. I'm trying to activate the entertainment package (the Skysports one) but all I'm being offered is a sub at £4.99 a month or Spotify for £9.99 with the 1st month free, not even a mention of the NOW TV deal?

Anyone else seen this or know what's going on?

Thanks

I had to call up to get the option back on my account as I waited till my subscription has ended first. Also wow, how does the price keep dropping so fast?

Further to my message about this, I called Vodafone about this today and apparently this £20 tariff doesn't have the Entertainment package any longer included. It is now only included in the £25 a month one... so I've sent my sim back...

This is an excellent deal. Unfortunately I only get 2G where I live (I know).

Good deal, but Vadafone's signal is rubbish in my area...
