This comes with a propane regulator, but changing to a butane regulator (as per pic below) for around £5 or so, would see a huge cost saving over the lifetime of the BBQ, due to butane being available @ £23.99 per 13kg cylinder.

So why are they fitted with propane in the first place?

Propane provides a much more consistent flame; you can get a 19kg propane canister for £29.99 delivered - a much better deal!
I can only guess that BBQ manufacturers think the end user will prefer propane as it burns hotter....?

Calor 13kg propane refill is only £25.87 if you already have a calor bottle and a 'go outdoors' discount card.Propane performs much better than butane when its cooler too.

Shame it doesn't have a flat hot plate, it looks like it only has grills.

No side burner? I'd suggest waiting for the Homebase 4 burner to go on sale.

Do folks actually use the side burner?
I have never seen a side burner in use.
I actually searched for one without, the shelf is of far more use IMO, somewhere to rest your beer if nothing else

Side burner is great for a bit of fried onion, barbecue beans etc. They mostly come with a flap, which means if not in use you can use it to rest your beer!
The Homebase one referred to in my message is this one.
Past two years they have eventually reduced this to around £100.

You're correct, looks like they've changed the propane in that you don't have to pay deposit.

Is this just gas? No lava rocks? Isn't it just like cooking over a gas cooker then?

If you cook outdoors with your gas cooker and fat drops from your food onto open flames then yes

You have obviously never eaten something cooked on a gas barbecue, if you had you would know that flame grilling on a gas barbecue and oven cooking result in completely different flavours.

I have this, pain to clean the racks (anything is a pain to clean! )
Great cooking rack, as opposed to the wire style racks u get on some...
Took 2 of us to build it, didn't help me making me some mistakes along the way!
In all fairness to B&Q , its a real good BBQ, and we paid £117 for it last year... Good unit.

Please dont post a "DEAL" for any type of gas until you have checked out Woldlink - they will be way cheaper than the price quoted in your link.
I'm starting to think that the OP for this particular thread is affiliated to Flogas.

Not at all, no link to them whatsoever.
As I've said previous, posting this is giving fellow forum users the heads up that there are cheaper alternatives than the overly priced 1st choice for most in Calor.
The heat this deal gets is proof to me that there are many, many folks who see this as a good price and/or were unaware that this could be ordered online at this price.
I've acknowledged your (repeated) suggestion of using Woldlink, it could be suggested that you are affiliated to them.., yes there cheaper, BUT they are losing sales due to the lack of online ordering.
Most see the benefit of online ordering and vote this deal hot as such.

I'm not affiliated to anyone mate, but because you know for a fact that Woldlink are the cheapest gas suppliers BAR NONE yet you still continue to post deals for other, more expensive companies doesnt sit well with me.
I dont want to fall out with you, but can yousee where I'm coming from?

If Woldlink had online ordering they would be posted here as a deal and there sales but rise dramatically.
If you can find cheaper online post it as a deal and share the savings.
Calors' market dominance is the reason why I post this on here, there are thousands buying overpriced cylinders from them and paying cylinder deposit charges needlessly.
Comments on this and previous threads shows me that there are many, many forum users unaware of cheaper gas than they normally buy locally.
That coupled with safe PayPal online ordering is why the majority vote hot.
I've (repeatedly) acknowledged your suggestion of using Woldlink, I'm sure I even posted the contact details for them on another thread.
They are cheaper, BUT phoning a company you've never used before and them not accepting PayPal as payment doesn't sit well with most.

Bought the 'Ultar' barbecue in my local branch today. It takes a while to build it and the framework is quite flimsy. It cooked the food really well but on cleaning it I noticed that the protective paintwork had come off the heat deflectors and was flaking off the rear inside of the barbecue. It'll be going back to the store on Monday.

Hello,
To the people who have bought these how are you getting on with them? Any issues so far?

Initially, like the previous poster, I thought the frame was a tad flimsy, once the side shelfs were in place in was far more sturdier.
I used mines for 1st time last Saturday, cooked for around 15 folk, cooking area was ample, took a bit of getting used to the cooking area itself, the wide spars make for more of a griddle than the previous wire style spars I was used to on a gas BBQ.
I heated mines up for a good 20mins or so before cooking seeing as it was its first use, food seemed to stick at first but I got used to that, I was turning the food too quick and it was sticking, after I turned the heat down to around 1/4 it was far easier, on full heat it seemed to burn the food too easily.
Any residue easily came off, couple of minutes on full heat and a going over with a wire brush whilst hot, and it looks like new again.
Full size drip tray drawer is ideal, I lined mines with kitchen foil, and like the griddle is like new once I removed it.
No real faults as such, but a door opening to the shelf below would have been nice, I changed the gas hose for a longer one as I don't like the gas cylinder too close to the BBQ itself, mines is around 4/5' away, so to be able to utilise the shelf below would have been perfect, but the side shelves are a decent size for placing food to be cooked.
Never used a side burner previously so I never/won't miss that.
Temperature gauge on lid, same as above, would have made this better but not missed.
Viewing window, don't these just go discoloured over time to the point of being redundant?
Full marks from me, no real faults of note, BUT I have only used it once, hopefully the griddle stays as easy to clean as I get more use from it.
