Sony KD55X8509CBU Black - 55inch UHD Smart LED TV with Freeview HD, 3D, Androis OS, WiFi, 4x HDMI Ports
This has been reduced to £799 at some retailers (rrp £1099) with a 5 year warranty and got heat on here the other day.
Co-Op have followed suit, but until 28th July use code "TV35" to get £35 off making it only £764.99.
Also you get FREE next day delivery including a 60 min slot so you dont have to wait in all day!
Plus there is 2 % quidco, by my calculations thats £15.30 bringing the cost down to a possible total of £749.69
Don't think you can find a cheaper Brand New 55" 4K UHD Sony TV with 3D and a 5 year warranty!!! all for under £750 delivered.
Packing in a 3D, 4K screen and one of the smartest operating systems about - Android TV - the Sony KD55X8509CBU demands a closer look.
4K Ultra HD TV b the ultimate in detail
With its revealing screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, the Sony KD55X8509CBU is ready for the 4K UHD revolution. The resolution is four times greater than conventional 1920 x 1080 Full HD, and it's a difference you'll really notice. The gain in resolution is especially visible and even close up, the detail and realism are awesome. Even other resolutions, thanks to Sony's X-Reality PRO 4K technology, are upscaled to near 4K standard.
Triluminos display and Motionflow XR1000Hz
As well as 4K, this Sony TV also boasts a Triluminos display, developed to produce truer, deeper and more natural shades of colour, with skin shades appearing far more natural. It's also fitted with Motionflow XR 1000Hz, which works especially well with fast moving action, such as sports events, removing the blur you can see with standard TVs. From a Hollywood blockbuster to a Formula One race, XR1000 makes a significant difference.
Active 3D for a thrilling experience
Once you've experienced 3D TV, ordinary TV just never seems quite the same. Images aren't just projected forward but appear to occupy the space behind the screen, too. Thanks to 3D active processing, the Sony KD-L55X8509CBU offers breathtaking levels of detail and realism.
Android TV
Offering the slick interaction of the best smartphones, Android TV is one of the smartest content managers and providers to date. Boasting features such as Google Cast, Google Play and Voice Search, this Sony is part TV and part giant smartphone.
Voice Search and One Flick Entertainment
Even with such a massive range of content, finding what you want is always easy. Voice Search means you simply say what you're looking for and let Android TV find it for you. Alternatively, one-flick entertainment gives effortless control of search functions via simple swipes on the remote's touch pad. Best of all, you can control all the major functions without your TV viewing being interrupted - thanks to the discreet pop-up menus.
Bass reflex speakers and Signal to Sound architecture
Although no match for a home cinema system or soundbar/base, the Sony KD55X8509CBU's sound system is one of the better ones. With bass reflex speakers, it offers a deeper and more powerful sound than you might expect. The digital Signal-to-Sound Architecture processing system includes technologies such as S-Force Front Surround for a more spacious sound, while Clear Phase produces a more natural sound quality.
If you're torn between the visual thrills of 3D and 4K TV then worry no more; with the Sony KD55X8509CBU you've got them both - and a lot more besides!
Like hotdog07 says I just turned mine on and it was good to go.

bought this TV from John Lewis and been looking at the TV properly. My screen looks like it's raining...it's like there is some sort electricity running behind the screen. Is this faulty or do I just need to amend settings?

Honestly, i only got it for the looks. Absolutely zero research went into as to whether it provides a better viewing experience or not. Plus the price i got it at. Had i had to pay £150+ extra i would've stuck with a flat screen.

True, but by the time the content (ie.4k, HDR, etc) arrives, most will have moved onto the next model (or the one after that!). When it comes to TV's, it seems almost all can't display their best due to being limited by content available.

I got this tv recently from the richer sounds £749 price, great tv, and can confirm any doubts about the hanging up of android OS have been fixed. Sky movies pictures are amazing, think it upscales. Use an amp so can't say much about sound.

Any price matches available? Looks like they sold out :disappointed: ?
To be fair, most of these reviews are from 8 - 9 months ago when the tv came out, apparently the latest firmware updates has smoothed things out and sony told me there is another major firmware update coming soon (although wouldn't give me an exact date)
rish83
19 Jul 161#39
On this TV any older reviews were before the android update which fixed the OS issues
Why is it that TV's for so long are ready for technology that is still years ahead? It baffles me...

TVs are something most people keep for a long time, 5+ years, so the manufacturers have to keep coming up with reasons to upgrade! Most broadcasts aren't even HD yet let alone Full HD. 4K is also thin on the ground in content on the streaming services and I'm not paying £400+ for a 4K blu-ray player when even the selection there is limited.
I'm still looking at my 6 year old G20 Panasonic plasma, but on the market for a new TV. I did order last years top of line Panasonic last month but it was the last one in sale and Yodel bloody smashed it so been looking a decent 55" for under £1000 since and so tempted by this. Can anyone comment on input lag with a PS4? That's what's putting me off 4K tvs in general but doubt I'd notice.
I got lucky with the curved version for £670 on Amazon Prime day. Coming in the next hour

I was looking at the curved samsung tv's in currys last night and i honestly didn't like them...I'm no tv expert and the sales guy just kept saying "better viewing angles" but we sit straight on to our tv. Is there any reason you went for curved, I'm genuinely interested as I thought curved was just a fad like 3D that would soon die away?

I got this TV delivered a few days ago, bought for £800 from currys but they don't price match with co-op so I can't get the difference refunded.
It is a great TV, quality is fantastic for the price. 1080p content looks great on it.
The android OS is quick as responsive, the early reviews had shocking things to say about androidtv crashing and being really slow but looks like software updates have sorted that out and this is meant to be getting the next major software update from Sony (I'll let others test that out first though)
One thing that isn't great is the reflection from the screen, in dark scenes it is like a mirror and does take you out of the movie when you see your ugly mug in the scene.

For uhd yea it will be excellent. In reviews they praise the 4K quality of this set.
But the HDR is a separate issue. If you are playing Utd Blu Ray from a 4K Blu Ray player then yea there will be a noticeable difference on a Tv with 10 bit HDR compared to a 8 bit tv which most sub £1000 TVs have
hotdog07
19 Jul 16#22
So confused sorry but u any idea if this tv be any good for playing uhd films? checked stats and says has HDR on this TV but not 10 panels
rish83
19 Jul 16#21
It's only worth it long term for proper HDR ie HDR with 10 bit panels where the nits are the correct amount to actually show you HDR fully.
But those will set you back at least £1000
For at least two years it will only be Netflix/Amazon video/Xbox one S/ps4.5 where you will see HDR content.

How does this compare with the 2016 model equivalent 55xd? Main difference seems to be new model is HDR and £300-£400 more expensive. Is the extra expensive worth it?

I bought a samsung Ju6800 last month but the colour banding on it was horrific, made the euros and the golf unwatchable. I just sold it yesterday and used the money to buy this sony set instead.
I went to John Lewis in Glasgow yesterday to buy it but had none in stock, but i did get a detailed demonstration of it and the 4k looks brilliant so I imagine the xbox will look excellent (although i do recommend selling it and buying a ps4 :stuck_out_tongue:)
