Good deal for this oil. I know it's been cheaper before but it's still a very good price!

I found this was more accurate than the Eurocarparts registration check. It also gives alternative recommendations where appropriate. http://lubematch.shell.co.uk/gb/en_GB/browse

Either genuine Toyota, or I've always had good results with MANN, usually available from EuroCarParts.

Just buy a genuine filter of the dealer they are not expensive, or check on ebay for them

I'm at work so really don't want to google 'vag 507'. Can you tell me what this is and why I should be concerned over this oil? I have my service due end of month and this is looking pretty sweet to give my mechanic to change the oil...
EDIT: looking at the comments, is this VW specific? I'm driving my trusty volvo c30 so I should be fine?

it more than likely hasn't been tested rather than not meeting.
I've used the correct viscosity oil for many many years ignoring the spec rubbish. As long as it the right viscosity and type (fully synth in my case) then as far as I'm concerned oil is oil.

I'd be questioning why my vehicle is either burning or loosing so much oil.....check my oil every month and Never dropped a mil

And I check mine every month and it's burned about half a litre every month for the last 27 months or so. Some cars just do it, some don't.

VW Tsi engine ?

I think it's older than the introduction of the TSI engines (04), but it is indeed a VAG. It also eats coil packs for breakfast, I've replaced them all at least once.

Specs for my Toyota say the oil I need is 5W-30 ACEA B1 - but this one is 5W-30 ACEA A5/B5.
Does that mean its going to be better than B1 or should I stick to a B1 oil?

guys. after you buy the oil, do you change it yourself ? how difficult to do it yourself?

best get an oil filter also, very simple actually for an average diy'er with basic tools.

That's a big difference! I would check with Shell or vehicle manufacturer before changing. What does the drivers handbook recommend?

in the long run the engine won't run at its optimum and this will cause the engine to wear prematurely. I always use correct spec oil

Usual cobblers written about oil .... just pick the viscosity you need, check the spec, choose fully synth or semi synth, then buy the cheapest which meets the above ....... simple as.
Don't pay silly money for a 'name' which promises magic performance! That's a mugs game.
And if you have to ask about changing the oil in your car and how to do it - do NOT attempt it yourself! Please.

Sensible post ...... as an Engineer I can confirm that a lot of cobblers is propagated about Oil usually by vested interests who want to sell you oil at three times the price you need to spend!

Well I never ..... I've serviced many cars over 42 years and never come across a rubber sump plug washer ..... I have learned something now ....

There are rubber "O" rings which fit inside the lip of the sump plug of the likes of a Vauxhall Omega.
