Credit to andy90_wfc for mentioning this in the ShopTo thread, but I thought I would make a separate post of the deal and also confirm that it is the 20th Celebration Edition which includes all DLC so far, and the new DLC due on 11th October. (Check post #2 for an image of my order confirming this)

Base.com usually get the games out for release day, and they don't take payment until dispatch...so you have an option to cancel the order easily without having to faff about getting your money back if it becomes available cheaper elsewhere.

Tomb Raider dead to me for selling out to Microsoft to aid their flagging console.

Old game now, and a tired franchise.. should be £9.99 Freezing cold

If you own a PS4 or PC and don't want to see third party multi platform games ending up as exclusives on inferior machines, (after being thrown a ton of cash in a panic by Microsoft) then you would do well to steer clear of this title until it's around £10.

Exclusives are exclusives, but you don't go buying multi format games to try to boost a weak console, should have kept Lionhead Studios and all the others they got rid of, (probably to pay for this exclusive)... should have remained multi format on release

Cold if this gets good sales it sends a message that companies can get with this timed release ****.

I liked the last Tomb Raider but this game will be nearly a year old on launch. It does have DLC added but just compare it to games like MGS5 or Witcher 3 which both could be picked up for £15-20 under a year after launch and both have far more content than this game. Only game i can recall that t held it's launch price a year latter is GTA5.

£20 is a good price for this.

Hot for the price. But just wait until a month or so after launch. It will go down to below £25 just like the XB1 version did.

I really liked the first one. Was looking forward to this, but you can't deny it's lost some steam after a year on the bench. What a shame for Crystal Dynamics...

Can see this dropping in price pretty quickly, given the vast number of new titles out around the time of release. Good price for now, but I'll pick up cheaper later!

19 Jul 16 #12
I sort of have some sympathy with them. You can't blame them for wanting to avoid going head to head with 'Uncharted 4', - which is what was on the cards until 'U4' got delayed - but it's a real shame for them that MS didn't push it and it under performed at retail.

I'd like a third game. I think I'll probably pick this up in the release window.

Also agree this will be dirt cheap a month or two after release.

Got this for the PC when it was released and it really is a phenomenal game. I loved the first one as well (not so keen on the originals!). I'm now just getting into Uncharted after recently getting a PS4. Almost finished the original. Wish there were more of these types of games available.

I own this game twice on xbox one, collectors edition and standard edition. Its an outstanding game and I'll also be picking this up on release for ps4, with all the dlc this is more than worth its price.
For all those stubborn people moaning about it selling out to Microsoft and not supporting it because of that reason I can only assume your fanboys, wait for it........

Even if it ran on the same settings as PC's low-medium it'd not be 60 FPS.
I'm don't know, but if I were to bet I'd bet a lot on it being up to 30 FPS.

I've always rated fanboys in this order (in my older posts I've stuck by it), starting at worst: PS4, PC, Wii and then Xbox. Owning all 4 platforms that's my conclusion of what I've noticed over the years.

It's a great game, so never mind, you're the one who's missing out. I suppose that you're not bothered with the Fallout 4 mods either as they came to Xbone first, and since this is a Square Enix production you'll not be bothering with any of the upcoming Final Fantasy games?
Spidersmudge
20 Jul 16 #46
I agree with the lad who said it was a crazy decision to not stay multi platform on release. I could have bought it on Xbox, but chose not to back then, due to game backlog overload.
That said, I'm also not sure where I'll find the time for this in between FFXV, Battlefield 1, COD x 2 and FIFA.

Tempted by the art book, that kind of thing is usually beautiful! Getting all the DLC is sensible.
joanddan7
20 Jul 16 #47
I own all too and Xbox ones are the worst....

Fanboy wars now haha.

To be honest it's nothing to do with fanboys the points made in here... Niether console owner should want third party game makers to sign exclusive deals....
Spidersmudge
20 Jul 16 #48
I also own all and +1 for Xbox owners. As you'd expect given the sales this gen and not having much to shout about. The biggest hype has been for RDR which as great as that game is, sums it up really...
Noxia
20 Jul 16 2 #49
Cute speech but it just reeks of immature fanboy bitterness. FYI, I've never owned an Xbox but I certainly wouldn't let business decisions influence my purchase. The console really isn't flagging either, sure PS4 is selling a lot more (because it's better of course) but to say it's flagging just shows your biased agenda again.

ReflexReact

I'm too old to care about fanboi this and that, but you're wrong in your statement. When the exclusivity deal was given, Xbox was indeed flagging and struggling behind extremely strong PS4 growth.
alizi1
20 Jul 16 #52
I agree with what you're saying, and I've even liked your comment...but as a gamer, I really don't want to see another developer go under due to an underperforming game.

Yes, part of me feels the same as you, but then another part of me feels that Square Enix wouldn't bat an eyelid to close a developer down if they don't meet sales targets. You may say it serves them right, but I just think it would be sad for gamers to lose another quality developer like Crystal Dynamics.

For me, Rise of the Tomb Raider for the PS4 will be a brand new AAA game, as I haven't played it on the XB1...so I'm quite happy to commit to £34.99, which includes the contents of the season pass. But that is my opinion.

PC fanboys are by for the worse this gen, they even bicker amongst themselves
pfagan10
20 Jul 16 #58
Yeah, so true. People are far too quick to say fanboy when someone has a slightly different opinion. I quite like the look of this game, not sure I'd be that bothered for it after completing Uncharted though. The developer has made a rod for their own back by making this a timed exclusive on Xbox. I'd suggest the fact they've been held back releasing until after Uncharted and have a release date so close to new iterations of very popular games coming out, this will be dead in the water and become a bargain title very quickly. £10-15 for me!
joedix88
20 Jul 16 #59
I fail to see how buying it on another system after the MS deal expires means that the exclusivity was a success.
People only bought it when it went down to sub £25 and even then they bought it on PC when that came out.
If you buy it on PS4 within the first week of release (because that's how publishers see success now) it shows that there's still money in the Tomb Raider name and as well as how buying the timed exclusivity rights to a game that is well in development for multiple platforms is a bad thing.
highspire2k
20 Jul 16 #60
As all have said, played the reboot on my 360 and loved it, but as a PS4 owner having to wait a year over another console on a multiplatform game (particuarly one that yes was born on PC/dreamcast or whatver but Lara really is a Playstation icon) is stupid. This price will plummet, especially leading into christmas. Heat for the price now but just hold out, you've waited almost a year already anyway.
mscAUser
20 Jul 16 1 #61
I see it a little differently, when RotTR inevitably sells more on PS4 on than it did on Xbox it will tell the publishers what a massive, massive mistake the timed exclusive was.

Non fanboys know that Lionhead studios was a loss maker for MS so why would you think a company that has a department that is no longer viable would do anything other than to get rid of it ?

What "Other" Studios do you think they "got rid of to pay for this exclusive" ?

Did Sony shut down 'Evolution Studios' the makers of Driveclub and MotorStorm to pay for their exclusivity of Streetfighter which also used to be a multi format game ? Or did they like MS shut it down because it was also a loss maker and no longer viable...

I'm looking forward to seeing if your opinion on what you call "inferior machines" stays the same when the Sony Neo and the Xbox Scorpio are released.

When you're an adult it's very easy to spot. Fanboy is usually used by people who have some strange loyalty to a brand and cannot stand any negatives. Considering I'm a neutral (and not 14) who could if I wanted have any console I wanted like most people can, I have no agenda. It's just cutting your nose to spite your face all in the name of some ridiculous brand loyalty.
I try not to use it too much, and I don't disagree with some of his statement but it's the most blatant 'fanboy' post I've seen in a while, to the point I did consider if it was just a troll post trying to bait MS lovers.
Noxia

Never said you wasn't entitled to your opinion, as somebody who has all 3 platforms, I honestly don't mind the timed exclusives, gives me a reason to buy the game on that platform, I don't see why it's a big deal, looks amazing on Xbox One & PC and I'm sure it'll look great on PS4 too
zee54
20 Jul 16 1 #76
I can understand all negativity around it being a timed release title and game is ultimately a year old now, but to be honest it is still a new game for us PS4 owners. It doesn't really matter when xbox got it, it's not like there's any cross platform functionality where they will be further developed in the game or anything, so it doesn't really matter. End of the day it should be treated like a new game, if you really want to play it then get it, if you don't think it's worth it then by all means wait, I very rarely buy a game on release at full price, it's always worth waiting a little. Let just not forget that it is a NEW game of us.

I think the point people are making is that there are thousands of people who have supported the tomb raider games throughout the past 20yrs on PlayStation and the games producers have cashed in on an Xbox exclusive knowing it is gong to disappoint a large portion of their fan base. They now have to flog it with a bunch of DLC and art work to try and justify the £35 price of a year old game! On the bright side it will be £20 before Xmas so happy days!

I bought an Xbone almost exclusively because of this game last December.

Brilliant game and don't regret purchasing the console to compliment my PS4 and Wii U.

Only reason I held back on buying one for so long was because of Mattrick running his mouth off in in his farewell speech at E3.

There's plenty of top games on Xbox you're never going to get to play on Playstation and vice versa so I don't get the fan baby nonsense at all.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a very special game, if you not got it on one of the other two platforms it's already out on then with all the DLC lobbed in this is great price for PS4, heat from me.

I hear you man but that's exactly what Microsoft did to get people on board for an Xbox ONE.

I'm looking to sell mine now as I've played everything I wanted to play since I picked it up. No personal hatred towards Microsoft, its just run its course for me and the titles I now want to play generally are appearing on Sony's console now.

Streetfighter 5? ...............Dead to me

Well, you kind of did.

I had an Xbox One at launch actually, sold it on after a few months. I certainly wasn't going to buy another just for one game. The issue with me was that Tombraider which started on the PC had a fanbase that Microsoft tried to purchase. That aside, PS4 and PC gamers should be annoyed by this.

Publishers only care about 1 thing....... money

The only way they will learn is if they're hit in the pockets, if the PS4 versions outsells the XBOX then the publisher is laughing all the way to the bank, and they will see it as an excellent move all round and will probably do it again.

Lets be honest, one of the worst things to have ever graced gaming was Peter Molyneux. He's destroyed almost everything he's touched and his arrogance nearly outright destroyed Lionhead well before MS laid them to rest. Lionhead never fully recovered from Fable 3. Ever wonder why the offical forums got pulled? Not only because of the vitriol aimed their way by gamers, because some devs began airing their dirty laundry. Exposing PM for what he was.

I genuinely have no idea why any gaming site worth its salt gives PM an iota of exposure in this day and age, but some do. I think only one or 2 journalists have called him out for what he is, the others are either too frightened for some bizarre reason or dtill regard him as a source of information. He's a grade A nugget.

This is a PS4 game thread, in which I am commenting on purely for reasons explained. In the same thread I also berated Microsoft.

I will criticise everything and everything if i feel it is warranted

My comment about historic console ownership only goes to refute your rather silly fanboy claim, since I cannot possible have allegiance to one company as you suggest in this case i am deemed a Sony fanboy?

In fact i used to run a very popular xbox game save website.

I have no bias to a specific brand of console, i treat every console on their own merits

Now you fail to understand past tense? the key word was used

It wasn't for advancing my career or graduating, it was just for fun

Nearly the same pleasure I get conversing with you

I'll get a second hand copy in a month for 10-15 quid. They can do one for a sealed copy, not happening after that wait

In a month eh, how can you manage that when the game don't even come out for another 3 months?

Yep I stated THREE months, so that makes you rather incompetent in the art of.......

Are you trying to give me, an illiterate uneducated working class oik, English grammar lessons in the art of using the present and past tense?

Microsoft funded development, it wouldn't have happened without the exclusivity. That being said, I thought this game paled in comparison to the earlier game.

Makes zero sense since the game isn't out for 3 months LOL.

I'm not entirely sure that's true, I had a friend on the dev team and as far as he understood it a sequel was always going to happen, Microsoft approached the publishers and offered the money. It most likely lead to an increase in budget but Square were always going to make a sequel to such a highly rated game.

I can't say I have any appetite for Gears, but I am mighty jealous of the Forza series. Being able to bat out quality racing games on an annual basis has been too much for the Polyphony folks, who spend an age making one game! :disappointed:
jayjayuk1234

Turn10 'bat out' Forza games with less features each time..... instead of fixing something, they remove it.

Ah do they? I've not played any of the recent ones to any great depth. They seem enjoyable. I'm hoping GT Sport is decent enough- but we need a proper GT7!

A lot of pseudo intellectual **** swinging going in this thread. The day I'm influenced by some jumped up arrogant ****, who thinks we're all beneath him, will be the day I jump into bed with some faceless corporation that has used questionable practices every bit as bad as the other faceless corp I'm defending. The real fools are those who believe there's a single multi national corporation that wouldn't use the same tactics as another if it meant more $$$$$$$$$ or £££££££££'s. Here's my wallet.
