Here's a fantastic deal I came across for a SIM free Samsung S7 priced at £399 and free shipping. I haven't seen one refurbished for cheaper. Black colour is also available.

It is not based on cynogenmod, some ColorOS; Cynogen is great OS though no crapware. Unfortunately, OnePlus no longer has cynogen. Only advantage with samsung it OS updates are faster.

You can regularly pick up brand new sealed UK S7's on ebay for the same money (or less). I paid £415 for a sealed sim free, unlocked UK version but you regularly see them for £375, UK warranty still applies too.

Very good phone, I also have an iphone 6s and an S5 - I much prefer the S7 and the camera is also very good.

There is no comparison between Android and IOS.
Unfortunately I use iPhone as my work app is more stable on it.
Apple IPhone is like a Nokia 3310 with coloured big touch screen nothing more. Even you pay premium price still the phone seems to belong to apple in certain ways.
Android give you freedom and feel that you own what you pad for.
IOS is a room with one door (AppStore) so it's obvious is more secure yet Android is freedom. Freedom comes at a cost and it's not much tbh.

Yes and I have a games console. But I like my mobile to do everything. Not struggle with having more then 5 games stored on it such as GTA.

8 Jul 16 #49
you cannot legally transfer paid games which you have purchased from the Google play store to you're external memory card. games like GTA vice city etc. Otherwise I could make numerous copies onto memory cards, trade it to you, so you can put it on your mobile and have the game for free. That info isn't correct. jailbreak or illegally- maybe.

I agree and that's why I reject all of that. Other than installing the GN launcher (which is what I view as the only real Android launcher these days) I do not mess around with my phones at all and have never rooted a single Android I've owned.

I think there's a big difference between people sharing tips on a forum though and people messing around with custom ROMs.

They are far from a hobbyist community! Do you know where the development team and CEO came from prior to starting up OP?

Android in itself is a hobbyist community! All I read about is, rooting this, removing bloatware, flashing that, google now launcher over stock touchwiz on samsung devices, people moaning about what Sony have done with their skins, so remove it. I just want a phone to work out of the box. I would love vanilla android options on my S7 Edge, yes, I own an S7 edge (couldn't very well turn down a free phone from work!), but if I had a choice of spending £300 of my own money? I would go a little different from you and go with OP3, it represents better value for money, is as close to vanilla android as I said without it being so. I just Windows phones weren't dying a death. I loved the camera tech on Lumia devices, their pureview Zeiss lenses are magnificent to use, and I had high hopes when Microsoft bought Nokias mobile division. Alas, not to be after the disappointing 950 XL(continuum could have genuinely changed it all if they had worked it right!)
Spark
8 Jul 16 1 #36
I've honestly just had my fill of Android phones from little one man and his dog-type manufacturers at this point.

If you're going to spend in the £300 range then Google is the only way to invest in a device that will be kept bang up to date and will not require you to be at the mercy of a small manufacturer/vendor or some hobbyist development community.
ben1979
8 Jul 16 1 #35
Really?

Better screen/body ratio
Better Camera (OIS)
Better CPU and GPU
More (usuable) RAM
More storage (neither has expandable storage)
Bigger battery
Dual Sim card slot (not useful to everyone granted)
Better quality materials (IMHO) Aluminium chassis over plastic!

So, what needs to be decided is, is the price difference between the two worth those advantages? In my opinion, absolutely! But none of this is relevant.

Does this deal represent better value than either of our preferred options? Debatable. I will say no. The black screen issue and bloatware aside.
Spark
8 Jul 16 #34
I would take a Nexus 5X over a OP3 on any day of the week.
ben1979
8 Jul 16 #33
You could, but stacking a Nexus against a OP3, which represents better value for money? It's an opinion, but mine is that it's a no brainer. The OP3 every time. For now at least, until the next iteration of the Nexus device comes out.
Spark
8 Jul 16 1 #32
Or you could just buy a Nexus and get pure Android in its entirety.
bilbob
8 Jul 16 #31
This simply isn't the case for many apps though is it?

None of the Google apps allow this, Here maps, nope. Google maps, Nope. All the 'big users' don't allow it it seems.
It really is an issue with Marshmallow, how they tried to 'fix' the memory card issues on previous versions, just for manufacturers to sell the consumer short by removing the feature, simply because they can't be bothered to support users with inferior memory cards, or, as MS do on WP, give them a tool to verify their cards as properly compatible before allowing external cards as internal usage.

ben1979
8 Jul 16 1 #27
Good thing it runs OxygenOS then and no CM!

And nobody can understand why people are so loyal? Because it has come a long way since it's humble beginnings of the invite system. It represents good value for money. As close to pure android as you would want with a few cosmetic changes/improvements and no bloatware. It has better/improving customer services (Only had to use it twice, once with my OPO and yellow band issue which was replaced with no issues, and I bought my sister OPX and it had a very minor/small spec of dirt or dust on the camera lens which showed up on photos, again, replaced the phone immediately with no issues). The makers actually listen to what customers want and evolve their phones to incorporate some of those changes and, as with recent communications from the CEO, it is very transparent with it's business model, what it charges and why and the unfortunate increase in price thanks to Brexit (dell and a host of camera companies have followed suit, so this isn't a one off). I personally prefer that to the big manufacturers who try and squeeze every last penny out of us the buyers with the promise of the fastest phone on the market, until the next one and a slight increase in price for it!

There is quite a lot of information here, and strange information too.

You can, of course, move almost all applications to the memory card - install the application, then go to your application settings menu, normally Settings\Apps, then you can choose the application you want to move, choose storage and you can choose to move the whole app to the memory card, or just the applications data if you like. This is easily Google-able and seems an odd reason to return a phone.
I just googled "Samsung S7 transfer apps to SD Card", and it comes up with how to do it. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=samsung+s7+transfer+apps+to+sd+card
Malware can be a problem with Android, but really only if you're downloading dodgy applications from dodgy sources. You need to manually allow this in the security settings by enabling the 'Install Applications from unknown sources' button, which literally gives you a warning to say this is less safe and not recommended.
To get malware, you must have done this, THEN installed some dodgy software - not exactly a problem with the phone...
If you stick to the Play store, you really should be OK.

Hope this helps with your next phone choice. iPhones are brilliant devices, but I personally think the S7 is the best phone available on the market at the moment.

And rightly so. Samsung is the most premium Android phone manufacturer.

Don't you dare even suggest any of the strange name, no warranty phones from Banggood or Ali Express.

This is a great deal. One of the fastest phones around, wireless charging, water resistant, good design, decent battery life, good power saving modes, excellent camera.

I previously owned a S6 edge 128gb and I got this a couple months back. So disappointed with the internal memory. Google play store games etc are normally over 1.5 GB for a decent full game and it easily fills up the 32GB memory. you can't transfer games onto external memory card and I got frustrated many times over this. So much so that I sent it back. I've kept my S6 edge but I've had so many problems with it. malware issues, slowdowns and things cause problems. Yes I've restored my mobile twice since then, but it's so much effort, that I won't do it again. I like the personalisation of android. Love my animated shark tank wallpaper, emulators and movie access. But I will keep this mobile for those purposes to keep at home and go back to Apple. Yes iphones are more bland, but I do prefer their app games store (better games, come out first and more optimised) plus no malware, bugs and larger hard drive internal. I am not a fan boy to someone who suffers from tunnel vision. But if you are on the fence about android or ios and gaming is you're thing. Just have a think about it and don't rush in like I did before. Spent months with Vodafone trying to return a mobile, cancel a contract I was entitled to.
now for this deal, heat for the best price for this device if it's for you.
