To be honest, you can probably buy this version as well as a PS3 to play it on for less than it costs to buy an Xbox 360 copy of the game today.

its been this price for months! so i cant really see its a deal unless you are just posting to compare to silly price its going on the xbox one now
i think if rockstar had remastered this it would of been a money printing machine for them, with increase in sales of 6000% for the xbox 360 version

I guarantee people that own a PS3 are buying a copy of this on Xbox for silly money just so they can play it on Xbox one.
I'm all for backward compatibility and it should be standard but the way Xbox is doing it is another way to milk gamers.

I still remember paying £7.99 or so for a used copy at GameStation and I don't regret it! Amazing game this is wherever you play.. well, you can only really play it on Xbox or PlayStation.
PC gamers still can't experience this masterpiece sadly.

I have been on many quests to find an old game in my collection over the years. I suspect I spend as much time looking for games as I do playing them.
You'll find and then not playing it and just add it to the "play later" pile

exactly Microsoft are not milking people as they said, have they increased the price of it digitally NO its retailers that have increased the price.(Microsoft won't see any of that money)
if anyone is milking people its Sony with PlayStation Now
joanddan7
7 Jul 16#27
They are not selling this online on their store then?
They are doing better than sony 100% agree but they are still making money off these re-releases and the drip feed, do it way way after releasing the Xbox in a little cynical.. (or I am) as I believe they held off to maximise the market for those that would buy online from adding this feature and not launching with it, many would have traded in games they would have kept if they knew the new console was backward compatible.
For me both consoles should have launched with some form of backward capability even if it was only to be able to play digital purchases you own.
They fact sony are now launching games and not allowing you to play them if you already owned the digital version before is a disgrace.
voyager123
7 Jul 161#28
as i said in other post it is being sold in the store BUT its not gone up in price has it(its even on sale at the moment) if they had upped the price i could understand the comment about milking it
joanddan7
7 Jul 16#29
Ok, Microsoft are doing backward capability because they love the fans and its not making them any money at all. This is 100% the best way they could have done it and they deserve no criticism...

7 Jul 16#30
i never said that of course they are doing to get extra money ie. getting people to buy the Xbox one, Nintendo,Microsoft and Sony are all just as greedy as each other. its the same reason Sony gave free games away with plus last gen to sell the ps3 and make money. all people are trying to tell you its not just Microsoft that are milking customers. i can't see them making much of game sales of BC games as most people will buy a physical version and they won't see any cash from that
dave859
7 Jul 16#31
It was a hell of a bonus that the press release went out the same week as it being on sale, from a business point of view rockstar & microsoft should of really held it back till the sale finished as people would of rushed to buy it even at full price.
joanddan7
7 Jul 161#32
No but my comment wasn't made with some misguided loyalty to a brand that doesn't care about me. I dislike the practises of all of them. I believe they are milking customers with this practise and the way they are doing it.
It's still much better than no backward capability at all though.
Lesser of two evils
joanddan7
7 Jul 16#33
Again the word sale is very subjective here...
7.99 isn't really a sale price for such an old game and especially an old game that a week ago was pick upable for £2.99 for a hard copy....
I suspect the sale is VERY well timed
dave859
7 Jul 16#34
Can't see it being planned, if the Microsoft sales department had any wiff of this news coming there's no way the discount would be anywhere as high as 75%.

joanddan7
7 Jul 16#37
No way should a old old old 360 game that had 1000s of physical copies everywhere have a RRP that high!
Come on... Do you really believe 7.99 is 25% of the right price or the price people would pay??
like I say... sales are no longer sales... its a term used to make people feel better about buying stuff.
More people will have bought this because its in a sale... than if the price just said £7.99....
You don't need to take my word for it, 1000s of studies have been done that prove this.

7 Jul 16#48
Sony in this generation seems more fixated with "how many PS4s can we sell?" over making exclusives and awesome games like it was back then on the PS3 days. It's a shame that Rockstar hasn't released an HD Remaster of RDR and while I'm against this practice because it's a last-gen I'd make an exception because it's the best western game out there.

Frame rate on this isn't as good as the 360. I picked this up on a PSN digital sale and got rid of my XBOX 360 disc copy - just bought it again digitally for the 360 so I can play on the XB One as the initial leaked tests looked promising on the frame rate.
Apparently it's fairly straight forward to convert an XBOX 360 save into a PS3 compatible one so might give that a bash at some point too.
AngryEnglishman
7 Jul 16#53
It's not just the framerate, the PS3 version is inferior on multiple levels including a lower resolution.

Downloading it now. I never got the chance to play it the first time round - maybe I was heavily into another game at the time or maybe just working a lot. There's definitely something better about playing 360 games on the Xbox One. I'm wondering if they run slightly smoother on the Xbox One. Having co-op fun on Rainbow Six Vegas 2 at the moment. The only games for this generation of consoles that I've really enjoyed are F1 2015 due to it's pick up and play nature and Until Dawn on the PS4 because I enjoyed the tension and the story. Backwards Compatibility is excellent and I bought RDR from the store for £6.24, for which I don't consider being "milked" because I know it's a far better game than most current gen games that have been brought out over the past 2 years.
dan666
8 Jul 16#56
Hopefully it will be smoother. When they 'accidentaly' released it a few months ago I managed to download it and play it for a couple of hours it didn't run very well. Hopefully they have polished it up since then.

Sony could easily do backwards compatibility on PS4 but the problem is they've invested too much into PS Now. Shame really, a few PS3 games I need to catch up on but really don't want to set my ps3 back up, or pay for the privilege of playing games I already own.

Indeed, £3.99 for a second hand copy of a 6 year old game seems about right to me, if not a bit over priced.

AndyEssex
8 Jul 16#66
I agree, it beggars belief really, but also proves a point. Most of the games that have been released since this current generation of consoles have been in existence have been poor. Lots of remasters (just in case anybody hadn't noticed those) and way too many open world games. I have ordered the Bioshock Collection just for Bioshock 1 and 2 because although they are basically linear games, you can go off and do a little wander too. I will also buy (again) Resident Evil 4 when it is released. Again a linear game as such but you can do a little wandering. Resi 4 and Bioshock 1 being my favourite games of all time.
The whole "fever" surrounding Red Dead Redemption ... will it/won't it come out, and now that it's available on BC everyone seems to be going crazy about it. I think that is enough evidence that maybe people are finding this current console generation of games are lacking in ideas and innovation.

I doubt it, due to the PS3's obtuse CPU, emulation on the PS4 would be difficult to say the least.
