Yes. My setup is to use BerryBoot which allows you to install multiple OS choices like Raspbian & other Linux distros. With BerryBoot there are three choices of Kodi to go with: OpenELEC; LibreELEC & OSMC. I use LibreELEC because it's based on Kodi 16 whereas I think the other two are still based on Kodi 15.
Of course you can opt to not use BerryBoot and just load one of those Kodi options straight on to the SD card.
Something of interest is that the Pi works with TVs that have HDMI-CEC - on my Samsung it's called Anynet+. I believe most Samsung, LG TVs and others have this as standard. So with this it means you can control Kodi on the Pi by using your TV remote. It's pretty handy.
If you have a smartphone or tablet you can also control it using a free app called Yatsi. This app comes in handy when you need to type in search boxes as it can be tedious using the TV remote and on-screen keyboard. The Pi3 also has 4 USB ports so you can plugin any kind of keyboard or mouse setup you fancy.

Yes. Google max2play and have a look. Very easy to install and set up. If you're new to the Pi then you will probably need a power supply and want a case of some sort. I bought mine as a full kit a few weeks back which I'm pleased with...
I agree if Kodi is all you plan on doing with it... I mean, just get a Firestick if that's the case, but obviously a Pi3 can do an almost infinite more things that Kodi boxes can't.

Can this be configured to have the screen forwarded to a tablet, but not the input? In other words I'd like to have keyboard and mouse plugged into the PI but the screen on my tablet? If use SSH ID have the tablet as both screen and input.

You can do this by installing VNC viewer on your tablet and vncserver on the pi.

Better still, setup x11 server and forward the vnc port (default 5900) over SSH.

Doesn't the vnc client (in this case the tablet) also handle keyboard and mouse?

Yes the Video core is not changed the Max resolution is 1080p but of course lower options are available with the upper limit of 1080p. I have to say I've a high end set up (1080p) with 7.1 active and external decoder and the image and sound from the RP1, RP2 and RP3 is stunning. Make sure if you are using Kodi you enable the external decoding of audio as the default is downsample to 2 chan. For HD video via USB the Freeveiw HD sticks start at £15 or £3 for SD. Nice feature of Kodi and TVHeadend is the recordings are unencrypted.

Still waiting for Google to release official Android on it and Microsoft to release proper Windows 10 on it, apparently both are in the works.

I have one I was given as a present but its still sitting in the box.
Years ago I used to write computer games (6502 so really years ago), can these be easily set up to emulate 1980s games machines?
