I got this from Buzz's recommendation and I love it. It's got a proper career mode that makes sense. You start at Kart level and work your way up. Yes all cars are unlocked in free drive but in career you have to earn contracts and make choices about which direction your career takes. It's a cracking game

Is this all track based?

Yes it is.
Regarding the controller vs wheel. I tried it with a controller, even after tweaking the controls, which made it out of this world better, it was still really hard to control, carts were ok, anything else (to me) a waste of time. I tried it recently with a wheel and it was the opposite for me, carts ok, but cars came alive and were fun! More importantly, they were controllable.
It's still difficult and this is not the game to pick up and play a quick race. This is the game to practice and practice, just like real driving.

Not sure if it will be. :disappointed:
I read that they've back tracked on that.

Considering this is usually the price for the standard edition, that's a great deal. Excellent game with some great graphics. If you like racing games this is a definite must buy.
I play it using the controller's tilt control to steer and haven't had too much difficulty getting the hang of it (no room for a wheel)

Drive club is like Need for speed...you can hit barriers and throw the car into the corner. project cars is a sim and needs respect. I've used a controller since the start and do very well now on it. certain cars are a handful but you get to realise what those are quickly. I've been playing it for a year and do not get bored.

What's this like compared to DriveClub? I remember people going on and on for months about how fantastic project cars would be and how it would kill DriveClub, then the game eventually came out and just disappeared from existence and nobody ever talked about it again.

Yes I agree. This is the problem with hyper-realistic racing SIMs. You soon realise you need the skills of an actual F1 driver to control the car on the screen, plus realistic controls to match. This means starting down the slippery slope to this:
For people saying it's too difficult... I read that a lot before I got it but you can turn the difficulty down whilst you get used to it. I did that and found it a lot more fun. I play with controller and within a few races was able to win and compete

I played fine with a controller until my wife bought me a G29, the settings just take some tweaking whether you use a controller or a wheel. Unlike most other games playable off the bat, this requires tweaking very complex settings I have no clue about in force feedback. It's no Dirt Rally, a game I traded in 2 weeks before I got the wheel as I was close to throwing my pad through the TV in frustration, which is impossible with a pad as you simply cannot make the quick, small steering adjustments required with one.
Loving the experience with the wheel, even though I'm still slower. Easily sit for hours lost in a GT Championship.
A McLaren F1 is crazy to control with a wheel or pad without assists!
For less than the compete DLC price this is a total bargain. You can't transfer saves from the regular version to this however as it has a different game id :disappointed:

I'm reading a lot that this is garbage without a steering wheel? Or is it OK with the dualshock?

I've bought this and played it just once. I suspect it would be a much better experience with a steering wheel as with dual shock is just doesn't feel right. Trying to straighten up a GT1 car out of a corner was like trying to catch a fly with chopsticks in the Karate Kid, difficult, but not impossible. I much preferred GT5 or 6, even with all the flaws.
I'd also add that the progression system on the game just doesn't work IMHO. Having everything available instantly leaves it feeling a very unrewarding experience from my point of view.

I thought I was pretty good at driving games but spent the majority of my time pointing in the wrong direction. It's a proper sim but I think that makes it almost unplayable on a pad.
I got Driveclub at the same time and haven't bothered with P.Cars since.

It is even difficult with steering wheel. Actually I'm wat worst with it than with the controller, but it might be because I never had an steering wheel before and I also never drove a real car before (I just did karting)

Brilliant price considering its £16.99 without all the DLC. Heat added Buzz

I appreciate it dropped to £18.99 on Prime Day (thanks, Lomi), but I think this is a great price for what is one of my favourite driving games this generation.
