I'm seriously considering that, plus my Blu-raydrive in my media centre has blown up. Considered waiting for the 500gb xbox one s, again mainly for the 4k media as don't really get time to game nowadays.

Even just as a home media hub this would be a great deal, but given the PS3's great catalogue of games (that you can now get dirt cheap), it's a fantastic one.

Most of that great catalog is available on pc and better framerates and resolution, and I have seen basic blu ray players that have usb ports for £25 so not realy worth it unless you are desperate to play those exclusive games.

None that you'll currently buy new - only the very earliest models of the PS3 had PS2 backwards-compatibility. Many of those which did have this functionality will now have failed given their age and those that remain will fetch a significant price premium, I'm afraid.

The 12GB one is better because it has 12GB of Flash storage built in which is fast to access with little read time. Then just put the 500GB HDD from the PS4 into the 12GB PS3, most people have changed it already to a Hybrid or SSD any ways and have that 500GB drive laying around.

25 Jul 16#19
The US and JP versions, but the EU version only had dodgy software emulation and not the hardware based one... so it's a lot better to actually just buy a PS2 Slim.
Ni No Kuni is worth buying the PS3 alone tbh, also all the old PS1 classics that still aren't on PS4.

Nah, you don't want to be faffing around with a PC or a cheap Blu-Ray player when you've got a great little home entertainment hub in the PS3 that does Blu-Ray, DVD, iplayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime, 4od and tons more, as well as all the gaming (God of War and Uncharted and Last of Us... and many more) and music and other stuff you'd want, with a really nice ergonomic media remote.
This is a really good deal.

For £50 maybe, for £75 no and it doesn't come with a remote.
I grew up with gaming and bar a few overrated exclusives the PS3 (and PS4 by extension) I don't think its a great console I only ever used it for random store games that had online functions anything multiplayer was pc which (at the time) cost a fraction of the price, higher framerates, better graphics, better resolution.
Its good to a individual person if you don't care about framerates and resolution and want cut down functionality for things like a media player (can't play certain files especially older codecs)
So meh at most its a reasonable price but for its age it should be closer to £50 by now.

Asda deals such as this are pretty much always local - often repeated in a number of stores, but you'll still be lucky to find stock in most places.
The more recent the model (the one listed here is the last) the quieter they generally are, though the blu-ray drive on this one can be louder than the "slim" when in use.

Very rude comment there, but I expect it from people online these days.
You mean the pc that is more future proofed? Can play older stuff, no faffing around with limitations.
You are just choosing what to argue with, for your infomation though a pc can be built for not a huge amount more (but some people would argue that) and things can be saved if you can get old stuff like cases from freecycle.
And consoles are locked down more, if you have a hard drive crash or even want to upgrade you are screwed.
You are speaking to someone that until recently used a old softmodded xbox for retro stuff so I know all about having a gaming and media centre but that was so much simpler to use than a locked down OS.
Then you have to update the games anyway.
And that cheap pc could play PS2 games, PS1 games, Gamecube games, pc games all for not a huge amount more.
Its not a bad deal its just nothing mind blowing, to be a good deal it would have to be £50 (or even £60)

Really not supposed to be rude but I guess it was a little.
I just get so bored of reading the same old comments about pc's being better than consoles in every way. Each to their own I say. I don't choose to go onto pc deals and comment about how a console would be better.... There just isn't any need. People click on the deals that are interested in... Why go into one you are not and then feel the need to comment?? This deal keeps getting hotter because it is.
You have to view it slightly differently i think. You buy a PS3 you get it home plug it in and turn it on. That's it. it works straight out the box. Updates itself even when it's in standby. Anyone could use it with no problems and its stable. It will just keep doing what it does for years.
Your £70 pc will first have to be built. on top of that you will need peripherals to get it going. Will need updating very regularly. if online is likely to get some form of virus or you have to get anti virus software . it is not future proof, if you want to use latest apps you will need to change operating system all of which costs money etc etc etc.
I am by no means anti pc or Mac we have both in the house along with consoles. But for sheer ease for the vast majority of people a PS3 plugged into you tv is by far and away one of the simplest, easiest to use and competent media centres you can get. And I would happily spend the £10 you are arguing about for that reason.

Hardware, sadly
I have a PC.... I don't like using it as a gaming platform, too expensive to keep updating it all the time. it's also not very portable. I just want to boot it up stick a disc in and off we go, no messing with settings, downloading drivers etc etc.
Besides, i was talking about 4k Bluray, not gaming
The XBox will decode the HD audio into a lossy format like 5.1 yes of course, it's not the same as HD audio though and i didn't spend 5k on my home cinema system to have lossy 5.1 audio. Also, why would i pay a premium for 4k bluray discs and not make use of the HD audio, like Dolby Atmos and DTS-X?

Hot if you can get one. A month or so ago I got a 12gb super slim from CEX for £68 (it is seriously as new) and have not regretted it. I have to agree with the comments that you are better off getting a PS4, which can be found for quite cheap these days, and will be even cheaper once Neo is announced. A lot of the good PS3 games have been remastered and look/play much better on PS4, including Uncharted, The Last of Us and God of War III. The loading times alone on PS3 are just too bothersome for me.
Still, if you are on an extremely limited budget and you don't care to have the best graphics and slow loading times this is very cheap and you can't go wrong.

We moved our fat PS3 into the playroom once we got a PS4. It died recently and we still had lots of games the children played on it (things like all the Wonderbook games). It died a couple of months ago and the only new PS3 I could find anywhere was the 12Gb one for £180 at Argos. I did switch the HDDs over though. This superslim does feel quite cheap but runs a hell of a lot cooler than the fat model.

super_leeds_86
26 Jul 16#68
The Super Slim gets criticism about being 'cheap' but for me it's the best version of the PS3. It uses less power and this comes through by running a lot cooler than all the other models, it is significantly smaller than the 'Slim'. The mechanical lid is better longer term than the electronic disc mechanism of the original and slim models but it does feel a bit antiquated having to slide a piece of plastic to the left, rather than a touch sensitive button, but it really is no deal breaker.
At £75 brand new you won't get a better gaming and media device.

I did the same - think I may have got mine from Game for about the same circa £65. You get a good warranty, almost as much as you would if you brought new (2 years with CEX I think). Mine was marked up as a "grade c" console without a box so I didnt hold out much hope of it looking smart, but when I took it home and wiped it down with some anti-bac wipes it looked almost as good as new. Popped an old laptop HDD and started hitting the PS3 back catalogue. It's ridiculous how cheap the games are. For the kids, for the summer holidays, it should keep them well entertained!

Just as I get annoyed when people make assumptions, like you say why comment (as in Im not asking you why you commented but saying why I commented as it was my opinion)
I never said it was a bad deal just that it wasn't the best deal, a few years ago I would of grabbed one at this price but right now the best part of the deal is the control pad as they are expensive on its own.
You don't need the latest OS to use "apps" as you call them (thats the trendy/modern way to call software) most software works as far back as XP, free software does everything paid software does and is less bloated so you need minimal ram, hey if not playing most games use linux its free and simple to use distributions (and linux doesn't get viruses in the same way)
But its about interpretation, I don't think its a good deal in terms of what you get, but its a reasonable price for the hardware given its RRP so for that reason I haven't voted either way.
Theres not much more initial cost with a pc and you can get small cases and boards, lower failure rate and simple to replace a single cheap part than whole machine when it dies but I know people don't want to bother no matter how simple it can be.

Maybe I'm not showing understanding to the budget involved, but for me 75 and 250 is not a huge difference if it goes towards what is essentially an investment. The games you would be buying for either console would eventually level the initial cost, and you would definitely get a better experience on a PS4 as well as lower loading times that almost kill certain games for me on the PS3. /shrug
CharlieCroker
27 Jul 16#85
If you're only an occasional gamer then IMO the load times aren't a big issue. Plus there's the fact that games are cheaper on the Ps3 and there's a larger choice of secondhand titles available too.
