I did not say that, I was asking if this is like an air compressor because the only other one I know is the one with water jet.
Anyway, my understanding is that they might clean the loose food around but cannot replace a good manual brushing/flossing.
meglaman2000
14 Jul 16#73
Why on earth does knowing its not an air compressor make you come to that conclusion?
It does a very quick job cleaning between teeth and is recommended by dentists for those who dont get on with floss.
miaomiaobaubau
14 Jul 16#72
Thank you, so is this actually wasted precious time that can instead be used in the traditional way to manually clean teeth in a better way? with toothbrush, floss etc....
meglaman2000
13 Jul 16#71
It basically compresses a small chamber with liquid inside then releases it in a burst.
It's not like an air compressor in that it doesn't store anything compressed in order to then release it, it compresses and releases in one action.

Depends how brave you are lol.
Seriously, they come in about 7 different sizes from 0.5mm to 1.5mm and you should manage a size(s) to suit you. I use 2 diff sizes as advised by my dentist.
Google TEPE interdental BRUSH.
They are not that expensive but try discussing with your dentist and you may get a couple of free samples

My dentist advises a quick swish with the waterpik to flush away any food between the teeth, and then floss. Amazingly, I now do exactly that, and my gums have gone from dire to excellent.
If you really can't floss, then this is better than nothing, but it doesn't get below the gum line.

Philips is pleased to offer you a 24 month exchange or repair warranty on this product within the European Union. Please contact Philips on 02079490240 (UK) or 015245443 (Ireland)
Seems like a last chance to buy and exercise full 2 years warranty
By the way, does it just clean between teeth /gums only or removes the black markings close to teeth gaps as well?

11 Jul 16#46
I got one of these as I'm unable to floss the conventional way. After a few months of religious use I visited my dentist for a check up. An xray revealed plaque deposits just below the gum line. They definitely weren't there the last time I visited the dentist which was roughly two weeks before starting with this.
Not saying it doesn't work, just that from my experience it doesn't do as thorough a job as dental floss. If you suffer from gum disease that could be an issue.

Had a couple of these because the failure rate is high.
Some just stop working, some the plastic just breaks if you use it with a little too much pressure (ie like a normal toothbrush)
Philip and Boots returned and replaced with no issue over the last 2 years
There are lots of reviews saying the same but Philips have not redesigned the product or seemingly made any improvements. Poorly designed and manufactured product.

Forgot to mention, its also excellent for partially impacted wisdom teeth. Something flossing and brushing can't deal with. A few squirts in the gaps and it cleans them out without irritating the gums around the wisdom teeth.

11 Jul 161#33
Also looked at the water pick. Problem is it needs a spare shaver socket in the bathroom which many people may not have :disappointed:
I would be interested in hearing any comparisons between the Airflows and the cordless water pick if anyone has used both

Slot of comments that miss the point here, yes flossing thoroughly is better than this product. But as any dentist will tell you not enough people floss, despite getting told to every time they go to the dentist. I'm one of those people, i find floss super uncomfortable and i just can't get into the habit.
This however is dead easy to use, takes seconds to do and really helps clean between teeth, especially when used with mouthwash.
I have had mine over a year with no problems, not all of them break.

Its not a replacement for flossing. If you have a good flossing routine don't bother with this. For those of us that don't have a good flossing routine, its better then nothing.
My wife has tightly packed teeth which makes flossing difficult for her (sometimes cuts gums while getting floss/brush in). I have a couple of slightly large gaps for which this is excellent. We have floss in the bathroom, bedside tables, living room but still don't manage to floss daily :/
I grabbed this during the Tesco offer a few months ago. For whatever reason, we've managed to use this daily after brushing, so its been worth it.

I used to have interdental brushes and then I bought this. For me, there is no going back. I find it easy to use in a way the brushes were not and it makes me do it a lot more often than I used to. I got mine in the amazon warehouse a while back (it was new though) and it was more expensive than the £30. For this price I am tempted to buy another one though I really don't need it.
