Hot from me. Nothing wrong with this TV. You can read my thoughts on it here (comment #13).

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hitachi-49-inch-4k-uhd-smart-led-tv-349-99-argos-2475196

Set it up properly and you will be rewarded with a superb 4k picture and 4 HDMI slots which are ALL 2.0 compliant.

Netflix and YouTube 4k apps work great. For everything else, plug in a Fire TV or Android box. It's unforgiving of SD sources but 1080p and 4k look terrific. Some of the negative comments baffle me - this a perfectly acceptable 48-inch 4k TV for under £400 for goodness sake! Both this and the HiSense are terrific deals at these prices.

I bought a 40 inch one of these from clearance bargains in Stanley last week. It was refurbished but looked brand new. It cost £220 and I bought it as more of an experiment to use as a 4k pc monitor than a TV but here are my initial thoughts

I've been using it as a pc monitor. Initially I had it at 4k 30hz and found it almost unusable I felt quite a sick after about half an hour. I've since got an display port adapter and running at 60hz it's much better.

It can't so 4.4.4 as far as I can tell but it it is very readable as a monitor. Not as clear as a normal monitor but acceptable. The brightness on the panel is very poor and when sat on a desk it gets worse at the edges due to the viewing angles. Again not terrible but just about acceptable.

I also don't seem to have the option to view the full desktop on the panel. I can either see all of the desktop and have a black border all the way round or I can miss off a bit of the screen all the way round, which causes me to lose the task bar off the screen. I do think however this is a limitation of my graphics card a r9 280 as apparently it can't do gui scaling at 4k resolutions

Overall as a pc monitor it's liveable. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination but for the price I will stick with it. I'm not sure you would even notice so much if you didn't have another monitor to compare it to but as I have a 27 traditional monitor next to it the brightness and clarity issues are highlighted more.

As a TV I havnt watched any terrestrial TV on it. I briefly tried Netflix which worked but I wouldn't day I was blown away. I would agree the smart features are almost non existent. I have the 50cx802b as my main TV and the smart features on that are OK but blow this TV out of the water. Colours seem OK on it but again I think the brightness of the panel really let's it down.

Playing ps4 over watch again picture is acceptable nothing special issue here would be the input lag. It's definitely there, it's not crippling and games are still playable but there's a noticeable difference between this and my main TV / old monitors.

Overall at the price I paid for mine I'm quite happy. It's essentially a secondary TV for me. Eventually once 4k monitors come down in price I would probably want to drop down to something closer to 32 inch. But for the time being I'm quite happy.

As a main TV think I'd be quite disappointed if this was my experience of 4k.

Hmm... tricky one. A Panasonic refurbed CX700 would be a much better buy at £450. 50" screen and not a Vestel.

I owned this tele for 9 months and it's 'smart' features are truly garbage. wouldn't recommend playing console games on it either but if you're strictly watching Freeview/Sky, it's not bad. bit of an oxymoron but :man:

I've got the 55 curved 430b and it's being returned to.panasoic

colours on freeview looked washout borderline grey, 4k not bad, but limited options in menu to adjust.

I understand this is actually a low budget screen vestel branded with Panasonic.

avoid if you like colourful imagrs

All 4 HDMI ports are v2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliant. As for upscaling, 1080p and 4k look fantastic. 720p is great. SD looks crap, but so it should on a 4K telly.

I also own this tv and totally agree it looks amazing the downside for me is the sound I tweaked mine on the user settings to make it clearer otherwise just use a soundbar
Kearns
15 Jul 16 1 #27
I sit only about an arms length away from it. Just make sure you can output at 60hz on 4k (i had to get a club3d adapter to use my display port)

You can view the full screen from this distance as i say but the edges are slightly darker and sometimes can cause an issue.

Ive also found an issue when trying to play hearthstone that i cant load the game on that screen it either loads on my portrait monitor or it bugged out on the tv, not sure where the issue lies with this but was a bit dissapointing.

As i say i find it usable as a monitor, not idea but for the price i paid it was worth the risk.

I would also be careful in saying that this tv is amazing. Its amazing for its price, but there are far better tvs out there, just depends if you want to pay the premium. - That coming from someone who has the 50cx802b and the 40cx400b pretty much next to each other in the same room.
cbr6fx
15 Jul 16 #28
So you have judged this tv on the basis that you own a 40" and a 50" side by side and using it as a monitor but this item is the 48" version and as for using it as a monitor, read the manual it can't display 4K resolutions only 1080p via dvi or rgb so pointless trying to judge it on using it as a 4K monitor! And you also saying 'be careful in saying this tv looks amazing' believe me, coming from someone who does own this model the picture looks amazing!!! You also asking for recommended tv settings earlier in the thread suggests to me you don't know what your doing, just think your being misleading to others!
Kearns
15 Jul 16 #29
You have your opinion I'll have mine. I'm not saying my view is definitive where as you obviously think yours is.

Also I'm not using it via dvi. I'm using a display port to hdmi adapter.

Maybe I don't know what I'm doing with the settings. The information on the Internet is somewhat limited on calibration to the point where reviews I found said they couldnt get any better results than 'out of the box' I asked you in the hope that you might provide some insight as you seem to be able to make your TV produce amazing results and mine seems to be mediocre however you didn't bother to respond so I presumed from that you were just blowing hot air.
cbr6fx to Kearns
15 Jul 16 #30
To clarify you asked interloper for recommended settings not me!!! And commenting on this thread about a product you don't even own is misleading especially when you state that 'be careful when saying this tv is amazing' for example you would say don't buy the 2.0L model of that car because the 1.6L version is crap lol I don't care if people go and buy it or not I am very happy with this tv but as I said before the only downside for me is the sound!

I read somewhere that it's best to set this TV to game mode at least when watching movies because of lag...And also there might be some buzzing noise so should turn 'echo' off... Not sure if there is any truth in these things how have you set yours up if you don't mind sharing?
cbr6fx
20 Jul 16 1 #35
for the game mode setting this tv calls it film mode and i haven't noticed any lag but i have noticed motion blur when you use the picture mode settings of CINEMA, DYNAMIC and NATURAL only the GAME and SPORTS settings stop the motion blur but as GAME doesn't let you change the settings i would choose SPORTS and then you can tweak the settings to what you want! also recommend setting the dynamic contrast on high! in terms of the buzzing noise, out the box it done this from the hdmi port when turning the energy saving on but do a software update to the latest firmware and the buzzing has gone! (for me i don't use the energy saving feature) here's a link to the operating instructions if you wanna have a read;

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

also make note if using a 4k source via hdmi like a 4k blu ray player there is a regular and enhanced setting, change the hdmi port setting to enhanced and that changes it to hdmi 2.0 instead of the regular 1.4

hope this helps
